RP: Reinette&Kalli: An evening walk
Stepping out of her TARDIS, the young Time Lady allowed her gaze to sweep the immediate area. It had been a couple weeks since she had bothered to step outside, too lost in the TARDIS and her thoughts to even bother. Honestly she had been thinking, trying to figure out what was causing the big problem, instead of focusing on their current one: Zagreus. He'd be dealt with in time, she was sure, and didn't want to waste her own resources on that endeavor. But weeks of reading, and thinking, and traveling she hadn't found anything that could help them.

And that frustrated her more than she liked to admit. She felt useless if she couldn't help. Kalli was startled when she felt a familiar tug at her pant leg, glancing down at her pet who was starting to look more like a dog now and less like a puppy. Dante 'woofed' softly in greeting. Her pet's head reached just above her knee now. His body was long, lanky, but his feet still looked to big for him.

Smiling fondly at the animal she patted his head, starting across the yard towards Sarah Jane's house. Though the thought made her smile falter slightly-Sarah Jane was gone now. As well as many others who had been helping the cause. People mourned their losses, but didn't seem alarmed by it, which upset Kalli slightly. What if people kept disappearing? And more-so, what if Romana disappeared and she never saw her again?

Not that she saw her much anyway, but the thought was still there.

Shaking her head and scrubbing a hand over her face she pushed away all those thoughts and made her way to the porch. Hopping up the steps with Dante at her heels, she dropped down onto a chair, waiting for Reinette to show up, looking forward to their walk.

The rain had faded away. From the skies, if not from memory. But now it could not be denied the early-evening air that greeted Reinette was both crisp, and beautiful, even as it masked recent pains.

She had not seen Kalli since her recent regeneration, but her pet was simple enough to locate, and the woman with him matched the Doctor's description to near perfection.

Dante was the first one to notice Reinette, having caught her familiar scent on the wind. Tilting his head he watched the woman approaching, barking softly in greeting, tail wagging. This was enough to draw the young Time Lady out of her thoughts, gaze switching from the clear skies above to rest on Reinette. Her eyes were blue now, brightly so, resembling the sky on a summer day. Yet they seemed clouded with unnamed emotions and thoughts, which she quickly banished to the depths of her mind, replacing them with a quick smile.

"Reinette." She greeted softly, standing from the chair, all but hopping down the steps, Dante following closely after her.

The Doctor was correct. There was something classical in the features that newly graced her friends face, something that could have placed her easily within Reinette's past. And the courts of France.

Reinette moved to pet Dante.

"Hello Kalli."

The not-quite-a-puppy whined happily and licked Reinette's hand in his own greeting, tail wagging wildly at the attention he was getting without having to first beg for it. Kalli watched her pet react for a moment, before looking back up at Reinette, the smile still gracing her lips.

"How are you?" she asked, looking the woman over. It had been a while since she had seen her.

From her position on the ground, Reinette returned Kalli's gaze quietly. She sensed a certain familiarity with the woman, and yet along with her new features also seemed to have come a new airas well.

She stood.

"I am well enough. I suppose the answer to that question is more complicated for you?"

"Ah, just a bit more complicated, I suppose." Eyes, for a moment, glittered with uncertainty. "Though I think I've been well enough. Getting used to a new body though, s'weird." She glanced down at herself, smoothing a hand over the front of her shirt. "What is even worse, is getting used to two hearts." Glancing back up at Reinette she grinned a little.

"Honestly. One minute I'm lying, bleeding in my TARDIS, next thing I know I'm awake, have got blonde hair, blue eyes, and two hearts beating in my chest."

Reinette considered that, for truthfully up until that moment she had forgotten that Kalli and the Doctor's race only shared two hearts after the first time they changed. She was so accustomed now to the sound of the Doctor's two hearts, beating, beneath her.

"I can only imagine that is everything that is disconcerting," Reinette mused, moving closer to the other woman. "And to feel betrayed by your body in any way can be difficult." She smiled softly. "But at least you are here still with us, with a chance to process those emotions?"

"Disconcerting is certainly a way to put it." She replied, sighing lightly. "Difficult is an even better way." Even if it had been almost a month since her change she still felt like a stranger in her own body. The way her fingers moved, they way she breathed, the texture of her hair and the length of her strides. She didn't have to get up on her tip-toes to reach the top cupboard anymore, but she couldn't reach across the table in the TARDIS easily anymore.

It amused her slightly that Reinette's last statement had been in the form of a question. Was she glad to still be here? Hadn't she in a brief glimmer of weakness, wanted to die on the floor of her TARDIS? To fade away into darkness and never return...it would have been a nice fate.

But she supposed she was glad to still be alive and nodded. "I guess that is one of the positive aspects of it, yeah." she offered the other woman a weak smile.

Reinette nodded, features awash with a certain amount of understanding. She understood that bodily betrayal because she lived with it daily. If in different ways than Kalli.

"Let's walk," she said firmly. "It will do us both good, I think."

"Perhaps." It was the reason they had met up, after all. Smiling, a little more genuinely this time, she whistled for Dante who was sniffing around the nearest tree. The young canine trotted back over to the pair with a soft 'woof', tail wagging as Kalli began to walk.

"So what have you been up to recently, Reinette?" And she was also curious as to what the Doctor had been up to. She hadn't talked with him since her regeneration.

"Working," she answered directly, setting a brisk, but even pace. All in all, mostly working. Your invitation for a walk prompted one of the first breaks I have taken in some time."

She smiled directly.

"I should thank you for that."

The other woman kept up with Reinette's pace quite easily, hands in her pockets, Dante trotting cheerfully at her heels. "Working on what, exactly? You any closer to figuring out how to keep the universe from imploding...exploding, whatever the universe is planning to do?" There was a slight pause as Reinette thanked her, and she shook her head a little.

"No need to thank me, really." The grin she gave was almost a little sheepish. Honestly, she wasn't used to being thanked, especially not for something as simple as going for a walk. "But I'm glad your taking a break."
