| | Welcome! We're re-watching Stargate SG-1, one episode a week. Please join us and share in the joy. If you're curious, check out the FAQ. If you're just joining us, you can catch up by checking out the tags page and the memories, or just dive right in with the current episode of the week!
| Okay, popular vote as of posting this is for the rewatch to be rescheduled to the same time next Friday (the 10th Oct - or Saturday morning if you're in Australia), so that's the plan! I'm really sorry about messing it up, everyone - I'm a ditz at the moment. | |
|
| Um, due to a variety of factors, none of the Redial mods are available to run the Urgo rewatch on Friday. My apologies for that. But! Think of this not as a problem, but as an opportunity. So, we have a couple of options: 1) If anyone would like to volunteer to run the rewatch (ideally someone who's had experience with setting up chatrooms before, as none of the mods will be there to help), let us know in comments. OR 2) We could hold the rewatch on a different day. So, here's some voting buttons: Poll #1271223 Pepper is disorganised
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: AllWould you like the Urgo rewatch rescheduled? If it is rescheduled, I can do the following times: (Bear in mind that the times given above are when we know we have a mod available - any other times may again need a volunteer for the oh-so-essential role of setting up the chatroom.)

| Transcript is here.I love this episode for its great Jack and Daniel interaction. During the triad scenes, you can really see the difference in their style of communication. Jack just blurts his thoughts out boldly while Daniel is more calm and diplomatic. They compliment each other, which makes it interesting to watch them. ( On with the recap! ) | |

| So, this week it's time for Foothold! Yay! Here's the Foothold transcript.I'm so excited, I even made a Sam&Teal'c icon just for the occasion. This ep has everything...okay, well not everything, because there's not much Daniel. But there's NotDaniel, who's almost just as "pretty" and SamDaniel, and speaking of Sam, she's going rogue and wearing leather, er when she's not "wearing" Daniel. Teal'c kicks all kinds of ass plus gets whumped! Jack ends up hanging around, but does feel up Janet later! It's okay because she's evil, and a fish. And Maybourne tries to take a day off from being an idiot! Plus, there's Major Davis! Oh but you guys probably want a more coherent recap. Here we go... ( Where 'Blithely' is our Word of the Day )Discussion Questions1. So, does that mimic device have a wardrobe dial on it on top of the self destruct option? Because how else does Jack and Daniel go from BDU's to casualguy Notchic with cool shades? 2. When the contaminated materials were being moved. Was that only a cover story, or was that warning to the aliens that clueless people were wandering the halls and the fish should act, you know, human like? 3. Teal'c noticed some of the guards were really human guards clueless about the foothold. So, what do you think happened to them when they suddenly see their buddies are really fishheaded aliens? 4. Why did Sam agree to go with NotJack and NotDaniel? (From chat) And why did no one (human) suggest she maybe get checked out while she was in Washington? 5. Who was your favorite fishhead? ScaryHissingDavis? EvilJanet? BlitheJack? PuzzledMegalomaniacHammond? PunchingbagSiler? SurvivalistDaniel? RandomSGCMember? 6. Why did NotHammond leave Sam in her lab when he's called away? I mean, aside from her being in the script next week. 7. Do the maintenance crews at the SGC get hazard pay for dealing with all this weird stuff cleanups? | |

| TRANSCRIPTPreviously on, our team has disovered the masked Na'onak is none other than Apophis! DUN! PART II( Nobody is happy to see him )Questions:1. Blood of Sokar. How much control did the subject have in choosing the memory versus Apophis? How much did Apophis even see or know about the memory? Or, in other words, how does it work? 2. Jack says Blood of Sokar reminded him of the 70s... O RLY? How much and how bad were his trips if nightmares of Charlie are what he's comparing them to? 3. Sokar's supposed to be pretty bad ass scary, yet Anubis is supposed to be just that much worse. So, with the benefit of hindsight, should they have, in fact, LET Sokar take over as the lesser of two evils? Cuz let's face it - Sokar was not really either that scary or that competent... 4. So the Tok'ra have a moon-killer bomb. Why then don't they just BOMB the entire station the Goa'uld summit is going to take place on next season, instead of their elaborate poison and memory-altering subterfuge plan? 4a. Or if that's too much in the future, most convenient beam-out in the history of television? y/n? 5. Three humans, three Tok'ra, and a Jaffa on a long trip home. How many rounds of '99 Bottles of Beer' did they get through before someone suggested strip poker to pass the time? | |

| "She is not the same person. She is not who she used to be."Throughout Past and Present, Daniel insists that Kera was a different person than Linea, and that she does not deserve to be punished for Linea's crimes. Was Daniel correct? Was Kera really a different personality within Linea's body? Was Kera really a sweet innocent, and Linea really a ruthless, wicked psychopath? ( Linea and Kera )My own conclusion is this: Kera is not the innocent to Linea's monster. They are both the same person, but without the same life experiences, and I think that Kera has the dangerous potential to become Linea all over again. Perhaps her sweet personality really proves that nurture triumphs over nature, but I'm more inclined to suggest that the nature hasn't changed, and as kindly as she seems at the moment, the Vyans are going to be in very deep trouble if Kera ever gets a little too absorbed in chemical experimentation. In any case, I welcome dissension and discussion. :) And thanks to sg_betty for the e-mail conversation that inspired this meta in the first place! | |

| WARNING: Spoilers through S10. If you look at averages, you can't help but see Daniel definitely has the worst track record on SG-1 for those 'bad for you' attractions. (And, for this discussion, an 'attraction' is being defined as not just sparkage, but enough connection going on to at least genererate an on-screen kiss.) Going by what we've seen, Daniel's really only had one solid relationship--Sha're. Then there are all the bad ones. ( Read more... ) | |

Thanks for the recap, sidlj! randomfreshink will be discussing Daniel's dismal Fatal Attraction record tomorrow, and I'll chime in with a comparison of Linea and Kera on Thursday. And next week, goldjadeocean will recap SG-1 going on vacation with Martouf as a tour guide in Jolinar's Memories.

| Forever in a Day gives both some great insights into Daniel and Sha're's relationship--and a tragic ending. And it is true tragedy since it's one of those situations where you can see that there are other options, but these characters could not have taken them. There's no way Daniel could ever shoot Sha're. (Jack could have--would have--taken that first shot, or had his knife out in two seconds; Carter could have done the same; Teal'c has only a fraction of a hesitation in that he looks to Daniel--he knows damn well what he's doing.) But Daniel can't bring himself to take the action that would save himself--that might or might not have saved Sha're. It's a horrible situation, with only a bad way out. But let's look at everything that leads up to this--and the implications revealed. | |

And next week, sidlj will recap Past and Present for us, with meta contributions from randomfreshink ( again!) and yours truly.
