We are only a week away from the Bristol Beer & Blake's 7 meet, so come and join us for a Saturday afternoon in Bristol drinking and chatting about Blake's 7, other SF stuff or anything that takes our fancy. All welcome. When: Saturday, 18 July, 12:15 PM Where: The Knight's Templar, Unit 1 Temple Square, Temple Quay, Bristol, Avon, BS1 6DG. Ben Goldacre at Odyssey
Odyssey is pleased (and slightly over geeked) to announce that journalist and blogger Ben Goldacre of badscience.net will be attending Odyssey as a guest speaker on the Saturday. For those that don't know here's a bit about Ben from his own website (www.badscience.net): Ben is a [coughs] award winning writer, broadcaster, and medical doctor who has written the weekly Bad Science column in the Guardian since 2003. He appears regularly on Radio 4 and TV, and has written for the Guardian, Time Out, New Statesman, and the British Medical Journal as well as various book chapters. “Bad Science” the book (4th Estate) is out now, it’s sold out in many bookstores but the publishers have ordered an emergency second print run which will appear in two days. He has won numerous awards, including “Best Freelancer” at the Medical Journalists Awards 2006, the Healthwatch Award in 2006, “Best Feature” at the British Science Writers Awards twice, for 2003 and 2005, and the Royal Statistical Society’s first Award For Statistical Excellence in Journalism (£250 and an engraved crystal paperweight!). I do not present myself as a “leading expert”, and I rarely even mention being a doctor, on the grounds that “arguing from authority” is one of the biggest problems in the way that science is misrepresented by the media. However, if you were to ask my mother, she would tell you that Ben studied Medicine at Magdalen College Oxford where he also edited Isis, the Oxford University Magazine. He left in 1995 with a First: before going on to clinical medicine at UCL, he was a visiting researcher in cognitive neurosciences at the University of Milan, working on fMRI brain scans of language and executive function, worked at Liberty the human rights organisation, and was also funded by the British Academy to do a Masters degree in Philosophy at King’s. www.odyssey2010.org for details. | | Monday, May 25th, 2009 | 9:05 am [steverogerson]

£4000 raised for charity
I am pleased to announce that today I put in the post two cheques, each for £2000, one to Asthma UK and one to The Woodland Trust. This beats 2007's total of £3400 and I'd like to thank you all for your continued support for Redemption and this shows that as well as helping us all have a good time every other February it also raises money for worthy causes. | | Monday, May 11th, 2009 | 11:41 pm [steverogerson]

Blake's 7 Wobblevision comes to an end
After many long years, and much blood, sweat, tears and dodgy special effects, the task that was started by Emma Peel has been finished by her. Yes, at last all 52 episodes of Blake's 7 have been given the Wobblevision treatment. Fittingly, the last one to be done was the last real episode - Blake - and this was filmed with love, care and alcohol at Redemption 09. The staggering results can be found here: http://www.blakes-7.co.uk/wobblevision/blake/blake.shtml | | Wednesday, May 6th, 2009 | 1:22 pm [sabremeister]

Irish DW Convention November 2009
Those of you who were at Coventry at the end of February may remember some people trying to persuade you to come to the first Irish DiscWorld convention in November. You may have put off by the hotel prices. Well, the good news is we've managed to get the hotel to lower their room rates a bit. More details on that piece of good news, and on all other aspects of the convention, can be found here. See you in November? | | Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 | 9:55 am [steverogerson]

Next price rise for Redemption
Because of the delay in us starting online bookings and to give people a chance to join Redemption at the lower rate who get paid at the end of April, we've decided to delay the next price increase until 1 May, when the cost for a full weekend will rise from £40 to £50. | | Thursday, April 9th, 2009 | 8:13 pm [steverogerson]
