Welcome to Red Dwarf Fan Art on Livejournal. This community was created to house all aspects of computer-created artwork (not just icons) to do with the hands-down no-argument best television show on the entire planet, Red Dwarf. Red Dwarf was created by the dynamic duo GRANT NAYLOR and obviously does not belong to us or anyone else on the internet in any way, shape or form.

New members are very welcome! But unfortunately, there is the need for a few rules. Our theory is that if everyone follows the rules in the first place, everything will run as smooth as chocolate icecream!... We hope! Read on!

HOW TO JOIN
# Click the "Join this community" link up the top of this info page.
# Go to this post and complete the short, screened and easy questionnaire so we know you're a fan
# Your membership will be approved and you can post (hurrah!) upon successful completion
# Anyone who doesn't know the majority of questionnaire answers (if you're really a fan of Red Dwarf, they're not hard questions and besides, this is the INTERNET... find a script and find the answers!!) will not be approved until they figure them out. Why would you want to join if you don't know the answers anyway? Seems fair enough to us.

ICON POSTING RULES

# Icons are 100x100. Non-negotiable. Anything bigger is considered fanart.

# All icons must be behind cuts and have no more than three teasers. If you post less than three icons then obviously there is no need for the teaser.

# COPYRIGHT is very important:

(a) You may post icons made by yourself only, unless you have the expressed permission from the artist. In which case, please notify a maintainer so that they are aware of the situation in case copyright issues arise. (Please God, No).

(b) You must credit your resources. This means that you must list where you found the images that you put together and where you got the brushes and fonts from. Most importantly, if your icon is based on someone else's idea, you must state who. It is for copyright reasons but it is also a courtesy. You do NOT have to post your resources every single time you post fan art, but you do need to provide a link to a place where we can access your resources each time. Sorry!

# You may stipulate your own rules, such as asking for credit in keywords and for no direct linking, but we ask that you do this politely.

# You may not post icons in this community which have absolutely nothing to do with Red Dwarf. This community has been created through love for Red Dwarf. Any discussion or art to do with other fandoms is disallowed. There are hundreds of other communities for that.

# You may post 'ships' (ie. Lister/Kochanski: an icon depicting a romance between those two characters). You should advise that there will be 'ship' icons in your post, especially if they are of an explicit nature or if they are slash. Please give people the choice not to see your icons. Slash is not canon.

# You may post "fake cuts" (as in, not post your icons in the community but post a link back to your own journaled entry) but the link must not lead to a multi-fandom/character post. We're here and browsing to see Red Dwarf, not The Lord of the Rings, much as we love and adore Frodo.

ICON TAKING RULES
# Don't claim it as yours. It's not. If you use an icon, credit the artist in your user picture keywords.

# Do not 'direct link' to the picture. Save it to your own computer and upload to your Photobucket or similar.

# Follow the requests made by each individual icon maker. If they want you to leave a comment and tell them where you're going to use their icon, then please do it. Save the hassle of arguments.

BANNER/FANART POSTING RULES

# Permissible: 'Friends Only' banners, colour bars, wallpapers, headers, game art, comic art, sketches etc. Anything you come up with! If you are unsure, please contact a maintainer.

# All artwork is to be behind an LJ Cut.

# You may not post a teaser which exceeds icon size (100x100) out of fairness to those with a dial-up connection/slow computer.

# Copyright, ships and fake cut rules as set out above.
