Three fan favorites are coming back to ABC's "All My Children."

Rebecca Budig returned Wednesday as Greenlee Smythe, a role she originated in 1999. Budig left the daytime soap opera in 2005.

The show recast the role last year with Sabine Singh, but -- by popular demand -- Singh stepped aside for Budig.

"Fans were quite vocal," said "All My Children" spokesman Michael Cohen. "They wanted Rebecca back as Greenlee. ... When the timing is right, as it was now, Rebecca was available so we brought her back."

Budig, who is married to Bob Guiney of ABC's "The Bachelor," hinted that her return could generate some couple shuffling if she has no chemistry with her character's present beau, Aidan Devane (portrayed by Aiden Turner).

Ten months after leaving "All My Children," Rebecca Budig has finally found a regular TV role - back on "AMC" as Greenlee Smythe du Pres Lavery.

"It feels good to be working," says Budig, 34, who returns to ABC Wednesday (1 p.m., Channel 9).

After nine years in daytime TV from New York - six as Greenlee and three as Michelle Bauer on CBS' "Guiding Light'' - the Fort Mitchell native and her husband, Bob Guiney from "The Bachelor," moved from New York to Los Angeles last March so she could pursue prime-time TV or feature films. "AMC" producers late last year asked her to come back.

"It was just a really great offer, and an opportunity to get back to New York. I feel much more connected to this city than LA," says the 1991 School for Creative & Performing Arts graduate.

"Just because I'm back here does not mean I am going to stop pursuing other things. Hopefully, I can do it all."

Greenlee returns to her cosmetics company next week on "All My Children," just as Rebecca Budig reprises her popular role.

"My first scenes back were fun," says Budig, who spent two years in L.A. with hubby Bob Guiney ("The Bachelor") auditioning for prime-time shows and films. "There are all these new girls at Fusion [Greenlee's company] now. They're fun to play with. They're game."

Indeed, in Budig's absence, the role of Babe was recast, while newcomer Annie joined the Fusion team. But the biggest change is that Greenlee is now romantically involved with Aidan.

"He's so funny and charming," says Budig. "We haven't had much to do together yet, though, because I've been with Kendall."

Yup. Fusion's founders - and troublemakers - Kendall and Greenlee, together again.

"Kendall and Greenlee are having a real big lovefest," says Budig, laughing. "I thought Alicia and I were close to making out the other day. One of these days, Ryan or Zach is going to have a fantasy and it's going to be us making out. That's where we're headed. I haven't made out with anybody yet, and I've been back three weeks. What the hell?!"

Budig won't be kissing anybody for a while, because Greenlee is about to fall gravely ill.

"Zach cut open this plant when they were in the bomb shelter and she drank from the root," says Budig. "She gets sick from that and has to go to the hospital. That brings Angie back to town."

As previously reported, Debbi Morgan is on her way back to "AMC," too, to reprise the role of Dr. Angie Hubbard. Luckily, she specializes in infectious diseases.

"Her son Frankie gets sick, too," says Budig. "What are the odds?"

While in the hospital, Greenlee will cross paths with her ex, Ryan, who was shot in the head this week and is also recovering.

"I think he's going to get memory loss from the bullet, so something's going to happen there," hints Budig.

Will Ryan and Greenlee renew the steamy romance they shared the last time around?

"You have to shake things up to keep things interesting," says Budig. "But I have to say, that would be the weirdest thing ever."

(Budig and Cameron Mathison, who plays Ryan, are such good friends that he stayed with her and Guiney while doing "Dancing With the Stars" last fall.)

"As close as I was to him before, we are closer now. He's like my brother. Can you imagine? 'It's fine. We're just playing a role. Stick your tongue deep in my throat. Thanks!'"

Rebecca Budig fans were devastated when the actress left All My Children in 2005, less that a year after walking down the aisle with The Bachelor’s Bob Guiney, to pursue an acting career in Los Angeles. Today ABC announced that the Emmy-nominated actress will return to the long-running soap as the strong-willed socialite Greenlee Smythe du Pres Lavery on January 16.
Budig, 34, took a break from packing up the Los Angeles home she shares with Bachelor Bob, 36, to talk to PEOPLE about returning to Pine Valley, moving back to New York City and wedded bliss with Bob. —K.C. Baker

Why are you returning to All My Children?
They made returning really appealing. I wasn’t committed to going back to New York. But Brian Frons, the president of ABC Daytime, is very persuasive. Bob thinks it’s a great opportunity. He’s excited to come [back to New York City] and hang out and see our old friends. He’s very supportive. He never stands in the way of what I want to do.

Did you ever think you’d be back?
Never. When I left, I left for good and never thought I would go back. I wanted to try different things and I did, like a pilot in Australia. But it’s been sporadic. It’s very different from working every day. But I’m very excited to be going back to New York City and seeing my fans and my onscreen family there.

What do you love about L.A.?
I have a house and a yard and I have a dog. I love the grocery stores, especially compared to the ones in New York. I could stay there all day. But I do love New York, too. I love the restaurants and walking everywhere and being able to have tons of conversations with all kinds of people. I love the culture. I love that the city never sleeps.

How’s married life?
Married life is going well. We’re both very busy, which is good. We got a dog. Her name is Phoebe. She’s a yellow lab. She’s a puppy—ten months old. We got her when I did a pilot for Fox called The Beast and played a vet.

What’s the best thing about being married to Bob?
I laugh all the time. He always makes me laugh. He dances. He’s always joking.
