Paper is always with us

  • Dec. 3rd, 2009 at 6:37 AM
Yesterday at work, when the wind caught the front door and slammed it shut, a bolt holding the closer in place went flying. There seemed to be a piece missing, so we couldn't put it back.

So I took a sheet of 11x17 paper, cut out a 1x17 strip, rolled it into a tight cylinder, passed it through the hole where the bolt would go, and put a binder clip on each end to hold it in place. Worked great :)

Great news! The forum is just about done!

There just needs some cosmetic retooling, but it is ready for regular postings.

If you didn't know where it was, it's at http://thepaper.conforums.com !

Happy posting!

Yomiko's Neighborhood, an update

  • Oct. 23rd, 2009 at 6:03 AM
Thought I'd throw in an update. Through looking at my OAV and Google Earth street views, I have stumbled on the location's exact point.

Unfortunately, in real life, Yomiko would be homeless....

Image in the cut. )

The building that was there (which was barely two stories) was torn down in 2007. Obviously in the R.O.D. universe a more sturdy office building was in it's place.

For courtesy of those with a GPS...

Latitude: 35°41'41.68"N
Longitude: 139°45'25.72"E
Heading(Face in this direction...): 41.000000°

Looking at all the buildings at that intersection makes me believe there's a little bit of the Yomiko Bureau in each building in the neighborhood.

If anyone's going to Tokyo and has time to find the place, there's vending machines, have a drink on Yomiko. ;)

A Potential Junior Wig...

  • Oct. 17th, 2009 at 11:31 AM

(Drawing by Inuyasha_Ryou @ http://deviantart.com)

If R.O.D. the TV were to ever be made into a live-action film, I think Junior's ''wig'' would possibly look a lot like this:

It would be just more silver, not light blonde.

Right now, I am just so bored and have writer's block, so I decided to take these character tests/quizzes for Read or Die (and just recently took a quiz for Harry Potter to see what my patronus is and ironically, it's a stag).

Even though I'm a female, I wanted to take the male character test first just for fun.  Here's the link in case anyone else wants to take it, female or male:

http://quizilla.teennick.com/quizzes/718293/which-guy-from-read-or-dieread-or-dream-are-you

This was my result:

Which guy from Read or Die\Read or Dream are you

4 other people got this result! That's 18%

You are Junior!

Aww :(  I like Junior, but I was hoping to be Drake. Drake's my favorite.

EDIT: So I retook the quiz with a bit more ''honesty'' and got Drake. Now I'm happy :)

You are Drake!

As for the female test, (here's the link: http://quizilla.teennick.com/quizzes/702770/which-girl-from-read-or-dieread-or-dream-are-you), this was my result:

Which girl from Read or Die\Read or Dream are you

19 other people got this result! That's 17%

You are Nenene!

Well, I guess I'm happy about this result, though I was hoping for Maggie. I'm a Maggie admirer, but I am a writer so...and can be sarcastic at times, though not always.

Just for experimentation reasons, I'll take these quizzes again later and maybe lie about some of the questions being given just to get different results :)

Has anyone else taken these quizzes? If so, which character do you represent?

Volume 2

  • Sep. 4th, 2009 at 8:35 AM

I know its been discussed before. Well I don't know it for sure but I find it likely. Nonetheless I want to say I found volume 2 of Read or Die manga cute. The bonus story was adorable.

R.O.D and Issues

  • Aug. 30th, 2009 at 12:50 PM
Dean Kootz would be proud. Read Or Die is about someone messing with forces beyond understanding and those that must stop them. Some things not what they seem. Not all characters as good as they first appear. Immortaity, cloning, themes about art vs. intellect sprinkled with personal motivations. Madness and sanity. God? Literature? Pop culture? Wisdom? Mortality? Who knows what to make of the universe. I've posted in an early entry it is the type of thing the Doctor would show up for. If you've read Dean Koont's books like Brother Odd, Dead and Alive, or Seize The Night you know what I mean. Read or Dream is exactly that quigmire of issues. Like Koont'z Deucalion is to Victor "Helios" Frankenstein so became Paper Sisters to British Library. Good mix of horror, hubris, and humour. Maybe some of you can say it more poetically then I can.

Musical.

  • Aug. 29th, 2009 at 2:55 PM

Ruthless! picture yesterday gave me an idea. What would be Read Or Dream be like as a musical.

I don't know if everyone has seen ALL these pics and if you have, please excuse me but I'm really in the mood to post something so I apologize. No one has to comment, but I left the function open just in case. This post is just for viewing--mainly.

*Note: I am still making some edits to this entry just to let everyone know. There may be more pictures added throughout.

*Rachel Hirschfeld (voice of Anita King in R.O.D. the TV)

This is her when she's 12, starring as Tina Denmark in Ruthless! The Musical.

Crossover Fanfiction Ideas

  • Aug. 28th, 2009 at 4:25 PM

I've previously wondered what if Doctor Who or Gargoyles.
What if Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Sakura Wars, or Wicked.

Wiki Problem? Use With Caution?

  • Jul. 29th, 2009 at 11:36 AM
Has anyone here had any problems using or visiting the wiki in the last couple of days? I have tried to access the Mata Hari article (which I wrote) several times. My browser takes me there, but sometimes the page freezes. When it didn't freeze, it tried three times to load some really nasty spyware on my system. Has anyone else had this problem? If some crook has been corrupting the site, the admins should check it out ASAP.

The End... IS HERE.

http://www.freewebs.com/sakurakohino/fanfics/peacefulleaves6.pdf - Part 6 (The Finale)

The last chapter of my fan fiction is complete. It's taken a while... too long in my opinion, but it is done.

http://www.freewebs.com/sakurakohino/fanfics/peacefulleaves1.pdf - Part 1
http://www.freewebs.com/sakurakohino/fanfics/peacefulleaves2.pdf - Part 2
http://www.freewebs.com/sakurakohino/fanfics/peacefulleaves3.pdf - Part 3
http://www.freewebs.com/sakurakohino/fanfics/peacefulleaves4.pdf - Part 4
http://www.freewebs.com/sakurakohino/fanfics/peacefulleaves5.pdf - Part 5

I plan on combining all the parts into one document in a little while, with a little more editing to get things just right.

It's been a long road, but it's a nice view from here.

Rant, rant, rant

  • Jul. 20th, 2009 at 9:23 AM
I just have to express this to people who may actually understand my pain. For a while now I've been going to anime con's with friends, and ever since I got into R.O.D. I've been searching rather desperately for merchandise. I'm not mad about the need to hunt. If anything I'm rather happy that the series isn't enormously popular. A good series can lose a lot of its luster by becoming a huge hit. Can't explain it. The downside of course is that it's bloody impossible to find ANY of the merchandise. I hunted all friggin weekend and all I could find was one artist doing prints, and even when I found that booth I still had to search for a decent pic that wasn't pornographic.

Seriously, what is it with guys and the nerd/librarian fantasy?

Aside from the prints at that one stall, all I could find at the BIGGEST ANIME CON ON THE EAST COAST was a KEYCHAIN. From the TV series no less.

Now some may violently disagree, but I think Read or Dream is awful. I tried to like it. I really did. It's just not the same. I tried to make myself watch the TV series. I can't do it. Good moments do exist, yes, but they are few and far between and I nearly fainted when I found out they changed Yomiko's voice. Why would they do that?! It was perfect in the OVA! That's beside the point.

The point is that when I found vendors who had any idea what I was talking about, they explained that apparently no one has made any new merchandise for TWO YEARS. I find this extremely disappointing.

Ok, I'm done ranting now.

I think I may have found Yomiko's home...

  • Jul. 11th, 2009 at 4:54 PM
Using Google Earth, I have been looking around the Jinbocho area of Tokyo. It now has the ability to look at STREET LEVEL there, so I have been doing a virtual walkabout, seeing where the artists were inspired to place Yomiko's home.

AND I FOUND IT!!! (LJ Cut with links below.)

Bring your own weapons, safety not guaranteed. I've only done this once before... )

Everything in that intersection matches up, taking into account any changes or any artistic licence the animators may have made. This is the prime candidate folks!

Ironic note... Yomiko's place is next to a school it seems in the real world.

Found me a library! ^_^

Thought I'd share something new I discovered in Second Life. Someone made a "set" that auto rezes, and guess what it sort of looks like? ^_^

Newbie here

And I'm all sorts of confused.

I've read up to volume 4 of the Manga, I'm pretty sure there are only four, right? Also, I haven't seen the TV- just the OVA. Could someone explain the series timeline for me? I mean, which order they're supposed to go in? It's OVA, Manga, then TV... right?

To be honest, I'm scared to watch the TV because after the ending of the OVA I wasn't sure I could go back to that universe. I cry every time I see it. Is it... you know.... worth it?
