So, there was going to be another part to complete before the challenge was issued--one where members suggested Fables/Myths/Fantasy/Fairy Tales in which to write the prompts that had been given...but since so many of the prompts were the ACTUAL Fables/Myths/Fantasy/Fairy Tales (or derivations thereof) that I'm just going to skip to the end.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create written or visual art using at least one of the prompts below in a Rayne-Centric Fable/Myth/Fantasy/Fairy Tale themed piece. It can be AU, crack, or just another day in our little corner of the 'Verse. And of course, the element can function as just an inspiration; nothing HAS to be literal.

There will be NO CLAIMING for this particular round; just pick your prompt and have at it. With a list as big as this one, I doubt that everyone will choose the same items. Any ONE OR TWO WORD prompts left over will be recycled into another random table challenge and longer prompts will go into a free-for-all Rayne Bunnython to be held later this year.

The creations are due August 31st, at 11:59pm PT and will be accepted until September 2nd at 11:59pm PT. DO NOT POST BEFORE THAT TIME.

His belongings are packed or being worn. Except Vera. He touches her barrel gently, remembering an offer to trade her for a living, breathing girl. He'd give his entire arsenal for the girl before him.

He sets Vera beside River and leaves, never even sparing her a glance. And he never looks back, not even when all he hears are her cries.

"Go se! The one that’s on it’s way?"

Kaylee and Simon were dozing comfortably when they heard the yelling.

"Ai ya, what the diyu is it now?" Simon sighed and snuggled into Kaylee’s back.

"Sweetie? What’s goin’ on?" Kaylee’s bottom wiggled against him in a very distracting way.

"Umm, I don’t know, but I think we should go check. My services as a doctor may be required."

"And you wanna know what’s goin’ on." Kaylee laughed.

"That too."

Jayne reached Inara’s shuttle first, dressed in sleeping pants, T-shirt, moccasins, and Vera. River was right behind him, wearing one of his black T-shirts that fit her like a dress over a sports bra and dancing shorts.

"This best be good," Jayne groused.

"Not good. Not good at all. Mal, bad in the Latin," River whispered.

Inara’s door opened, and Mal stumble-fell into the corridor, clad only in pajama pants.

"This is still my shuttle, and I’m telling you to get out." Inara’s face was pale and her voice was as cold and sharp as an icicle.

"Last time I checked, this was my boat, an' you're gettin' off at the next planet."

"I’ve paid my rent for the month." Inara tied the belt on her gold silk robe with shaky hands.

"I’ll leave your refund on your dresser. Believe that’s what you’re used to."

Inara’s arm moved like lightening and slapped Mal across the face. A fine line of blood trickled down his cheek where her ring had cut him.

Mal turned to Jayne and River with a vicious smirk. "Well, now," He drawled. "The Ambassador is leavin’ us, and my merc is humpin’ my eighteen-year-old pilot. Day just keeps gettin’ better an’ better."

"What?" Kaylee and Simon appeared at the end of the corridor. Kaylee ran to wrap her arms around Inara, and Simon ran to River.

"River, mei-mei?"

It was supposed to be a short little ficlet like it's first part, but seemed to take on a life of its own. I'm rather pleased with it, and am very much looking forward to writing the next part of this.
