About:

PURPOSE

rayne_fanon is an LJ community dedicated to the needs and whims and muses of River/Jayne fan-fic writers. But others--please feel free to join and give us your input. You don't have to actually WRITE to give good concrit!

(Just be warned: NO FLAMING and if the post/question/comment is deemed hostile to our 'ship it will be deleted or edited).

This is also a place to keep/make-up/suggest place names, events, back-story ideas, etc. in order to create a sort of "fanon" for Rayne. But only for THOSE WHO WANT TO DO SO. Joining, posting, voting, commenting, or suggesting something does NOT require that you use anything found in the community.

Of course, I hope that you DO use what is offered, but you are by no means obligated. Giving credit to the original writer/poster for anything you use would be proper and EXCEPTIONALLY nice; AND the use of ANY other writer's CHARACTERS MUST have their prior approval, unless stipulated in the "Member Intro Post" that anything they write is up for grabs and/or ok to re-use.

Please be sure to check that post (not up yet, sorry guys) for permission before you "borrow."

Just so you know, ANYTHING written by

bugchicklv is free for re-use. That means you can take Jester or Shelley (from "The Casino Job") and use them in something else; you can expand upon the "Jayne as an Alliance sniper/undercover Independence operative" back-story I created; and you can write about the Rayne!babies I gave them (of which, only one has a name: Francesca, aka Frankie. They also have a set of boy/girl twins--still need to name them!--...and I plan on 3 more young 'uns for our OTP!).

michmak has agreed to share place names (ie: in her "Little Things" series, Prospero was Jayne's home planet), events, and other small plot items (like how Jayne's Dad created the minecar system).

WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO SHARE? When you join, please be sure to let the comm know EXACTLY what, if anything, you are willing to contribute to the 'verse. (There will be another introduction post for everyone to do this.)

EVEN IF you don't want anything you have created to be referenced or reused, please join--we won't hold it against you and your input on other, newer items/questions will be invaluable.

THINGS TO NOTE:

While flaming and excessively harsh comments are not alllowed, things could get rough, as writers who WANT and APPRECIATE Constructive criticism started the community.

Neither of US has thin skins; however, this only applies to CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. "This sucks monkey-balls" is NOT acceptable, while 'Maybe your Kaylee should have said "T'weren't nothin'" instead of "It wasn't nothing" because she tends to speak that way"' WILL be accepted, because it offers up a suggestion on how to make the writing better.

Also, please note that I never ask a question that I am not 100% FULLY prepared to hear the answer to; so, if I were to post "Does my Simon sound 'in character?'"...I want to know if he does! Don't pull any punches, but DO offer suggestions to make him more Simon-y.

Anyone else posting similar questions/requests for help should expect the same thing.

And those of you who aren't Rayne shippers (in case you wandered in here by accident) but DO write or read Firefly fan-fic, also feel free to give us ADVICE and/or suggestions. After all, we don't get better as writers if we aren't willing to listen.

BETA REQUESTS:

Have you written a Rayne fic and need/want a BETA? Post a request for one. You might get an offer for a full-time one, but some of us are also available for one-shot BETAing (if your BETA is MIA or on vacation or something!).

INSPIRATION:

This is also be the comm to come to in order to have your Muse whipped into shape, or to inspire it into finally writing in the first place. I would love nothing more than to see this 'Verse filled with Rayne-writers. And I just KNOW that some of you who READ it, MIGHT want to (eventually) write it. That's how I started writing it!

Please feel free to post any plot bunnies that are up for adoption, as well as fic-requests. Got a shower/water kink? Ask us there for a kink-fix (not guaranteeing a response, but it is worth a shot, right?).

FAN VIDEOS:

Ever wanted to know HOW to make a fan video? Stop by and ask. I can provide you with links to download the necessary (and ALWAYS FREE, 'cause I'm cheap like that) programs, and give you links to some how-to's or tutorials on the specifics. It is MUCH EASIER than it seems, doesn't require more than a DVD burner (or downloaded versions of the eps) and SOME technical skill, and I can give you some pointers if you are using Windows Movie Maker (free with XP).

Already making vids, but have a song line/verse and you can't think of what scene to put with it? Someone there might be able to help.

ARTWORK:

I am hoping that people with Photoshop know-how will offer help with manips and creating wallpapers for our OTP, perhaps by offering a tutorial on how they created a particular piece. And I am confidant that icon creators will post tips for making those as well.

These are just a few of the many ways to be creative and contribute to the Rayne'verse if you do not consider yourself a writer, and we want to encourage that!

The community is not, and probably never will be, friends-locked, as I think that anyone can and should be allowed to scan through; but some posts will be locked (polls, member info, other sekrit stuff). You'll have to join in order to read them, or to comment on those.

Again, this is supposed to be a sister site for

rayne_shippers and a link to it will be prominent--most likely the only link in the community's "Friends" list (if i can do that).

Eventually, I will provide a link to "Objects In Space" (the River/Jayne Archive), Fanfiction.net and any other websites suggested. There will also be a link (sometime, somehow, somewhere) to THE AUTHOR'S websites, as I know some of you have them.

ff_roundrobin maintainers and we've decided (for now) that the Rayne Round Robins will be hosted here. Another one will (hopefully) go up soon!!
