Hi folks, Saffya here. Not sure if this kind of post is allowed or even if it's the right place but I'd like to ask... Some time ago, when I used to write Rayman fanfiction, I sent copies of I think three fanfictions to fellow fans, and I was wondering if anyone here still has them? I had a disc with all that stuff on it but I think I had to throw it away because the paint was peeling off, therefore losing it all.

To be a bit more specific, I'm after my Rayman VS Serena fic, one that was about Rayman being sent to the Teensie doctors, and one about Razorbeard after he left the planet for space. Granted they were all terrible and very embarrassing to look at now, but I'd like to read them again for shits and giggles.

Death by fish...

Okay... this was written in 1999, and it came directly out of seeing many, many repetitions of Rayman being devoured by piranhas in the game Rayman 2. The sadists at Ubisoft are completely to blame for this. XD

There was something so disturbing and yet compelling about all the methods of death for Rayman in that game - I was still discovering new ones years later. Anyway, the emotion behind this scene also has a lot to do with the name Rayman took for himself in, er, "Piranha."

Other than that, this scene has nothing to do with anything.

Another bit of “Piranha” that didn’t fit in (though if I were writing that chapter now I’d probably have kept it. I had better self-control back then.) It comes from the period around chapter ten or eleven (or nine-ten, on this website) when Piranha is particularly volatile.

Little outtake from "Piranha"

Oh, what the heck. This is one of many stray scenes that appeared in my head but didn't fit into the narrative. Just to round out the story a bit I might post some of these from time to time. It takes place right after Rayman was removed from the "coffin" at the beginning of Piranha. It's in the corridor where later on he watched the exodus of the natives of his own planet from the ship.

Hey, you guys have probably never heard of me--I'm a kind of secluded writer and artist. But Rayfan sent out a call for Rayman writers, and so I came! So, hello to everyone, and please forgive my sometimes sloppy postings =3 If any of you guys need illustrations for fanfics... try me, I'd love to see what I can do. I don't have anything quite publishable at the moment, but I do have a question about the Rayman worlds that's been niggling me since forever, and I'd love to hear your guys' opinions on it.

Piranha - Chapter Twelve, Part Two

I know, I know, more talk. Well, if you don’t like it, skip it. There is important information in these sections, but who’s going to remember it by the time the whole story is written, anyway?

After Chapter 12, the story will return to more action, in fact there’s an increasing amount of action as things move up towards the climax, beginning in Chapter 14. These past few chapters of talk and soul-searching were just an episode in Piranha’s career. If I could rewrite the whole thing from scratch that part would be shorter, but it couldn’t be avoided entirely.

Anyhow, thanks for your patience. I hope you like history. And stuff.

Hmmmm...

I'm thinking of disposing of a few old bits of Rayman stuff I've written over the years by entombing them here. Most of them are scraps, vignettes, little episodes that I never wanted to expand into the tedium of a full narrative. I've been reluctant to put them on display because they mostly contradict the "Piranha" story I've been struggling with for so long, but I'm so disgusted with the current chapter of that story, that I figure that not many readers will stick around to see if the story picks up again - and since Rayman 3 came out I've kind of felt that the Rayman universe is dead anyway. So it's time to wrap things up, and I might as well lay out some of these more personal items.

My fascination with Rayman was always a very personal thing anyway, didn't have that much to do with the games. From the moment I played Rayman 1, a vibrant personality and a universe sprang up in my head fully formed, though the game itself barely sketches him. Rayman 2, though, came surprisingly close to embodying that character and world. I think that Rayman reverberated with some character I've always had lurking inside me but wasn't very aware of until he woke it up. I'm grateful to the little guy for that, and to UbiSoft for not ruining him right away.

Anyway, if anybody sees any of these scraps, just realize that they're experiments and aren't meant to express a coherent history. They may not always agree with each other. The story of "Piranha" is entirely unrelated. That was another experiment that got out of hand.

Anything I post I'll label with the date when it was originally written. Most of them are pretty old.

Piranha - Chapter Eleven, Part Four

Hard to believe it's been almost a year since I finished this chapter. I hope to have the next one done sometime this month though.

I hope I won't then have to go back and rewrite this one to fit. *sigh*

Notes just in case:
Hornpipe: A traditional lively solo dance popular with sailors, or the music that goes with it. (Think Popeye.)
Scrimshaw: Intricate decorative carving done by sailors (traditionally on items made of whalebone).
Seven feet tall = 2.13 m.

Piranha - Chapter Eleven, Part Three

I know this whole chapter has been heavy going, and I don’t much like it myself, but this is what happens when a story takes too long to write – incidents that started out pretty light and airy gain more and more weight until they become almost immovable. And I don’t doubt parts of it are pretty hard to follow. I am pleased, though, that this section isn’t as bad as it was a few revisions back. I may revise this again if my mental functions revive sufficiently, but for now, here it is.

Rayman © UbiSoft Entertainment, though the guy in my story bears no resemblance to whatever it is they’ve been doing with the character lately.
