An Introduction

Hello. My name is Malorie, I live in Northern California.
I've been practicing the raw foods lifestyle for a few months now. After eating what I'll call %99.9 raw foods for a month and a half or so, I started getting really bored with the foods I was eating (I did try to maintain somewhat of a variety, but I have never experimented with recipes and don't even have a blender for smoothies!). So, I ended up eating a cooked meal thinking what harm could it do? Oi. I ended up eating cooked foods for a week and feeling very out of control and confused about food. So, four days ago (after I had read a few books on fasting) I decided to go on an absolute fast (water only). It only lasted three days, but I do feel like I learned a lesson from it. The reason I wasn't enjoying raw food before had more to do with the fact that I was eating too much. I still hadn't done away with looking at food in some twisted ways (usually as a cure for boredome, but also for emotional reasons, etc).
Now I'm interested in eating a lot less and less frequently and looking to food as a means of nurishment and not to fulfill other needs. I think there's a name for this... instinctive eating or something?
Anyway, I'm glad to have a place to post my daily intake as a way to keep myself attentive to it.
Cheers!

okay- so i'm just writing to say- i won't be doing rawfoods anymore. well- of course i'll still be eating a lot of raw foods, fruits and veggies are huge staples in my diet and i like eating them raw. but honestly? i do not lose weight on raw foods. i've tried for weeks and have only gained on raw foods. it's pretty band- i was even 100% for a little while. the thing is, when i try to eat 100 or even 80% raw foods, i eat so much and never ever feel satisfied. ever. and being a recovering compulsive over eater i need and crave satisfaction (over satisfaction really). I also need to lose weight. so both combined, gaining weight was not good for me on an almost entirely raw foods diet (keep in mind i do exersize a lot, and hour a day almost every single day of the week PLUS biking or walking, sometimes jog/walking to work and back 5 days a week which adds to 6.6 miles per day= 33 miles/week). I REFUSE to count calories while still being on a raw foods diet, because i know that will throw me into detrimental cycles of binging from restricting waaaay too much. So, i've been off for a little while now and have lost 12lbs just by eating a healthy high protein, high fiber, low calorie (1200-1500 daily, sometime more, sometimes less) diet in the matter of weeks. yeah...but don't get me wrong. i'm glad i experimented with it because it led me to discover a lot of delicious recipes that i'm still using and helped. i'm still keeping this community because it reminds me to be healthy and stay away from processed crap, and also shares recipes that i still use daily. and good luck to everyone staying raw food. i just wanted to share that, although i love raw foods in my diet- i hate having my diet restricted to only raw foods and does not help keep me healthy as it makes me gain weight and feel crappy about myself rather than accomplished. i also can't stand people(NOT in this community, mainly on goneraw.com) who swear every malady on raw foods is "detoxing". Sorry, but if your hair and nails are brittle, that is NOT detoxing- that is your body telling you that you are missing essential nutrients! and the fatigue i got from raw foods was NOT detoxing, it was me not getting enough protein (yes, i was getting amino acids- it was the lack of protein, which also led me to be far less satisfied with what i was eating, or to eat too many nuts which led to further weight gain). this is not some miracle diet that is correct for everyone, and i think everyone needs to listen to their very individual bodies, and follow what works for them. Again- i man not raw foods bashing, i think it's awesome- my body, however, does not like only raw foods...

3 weeks ago, I had a horrible upper respiratory infection and the dr said to build my immune system I would need to go on a raw food diet - even though I've been a vegetarian for most of the past 30 years.

So as I got better and it "clicked" and made sense jumped in with both feet and started my Raw Food Journey. No, I won't be using a dehydrator for my food and will stick to as natural as possible.

It has now been 2 weeks of trial and error but am making considerable progress and feeling much better. I did have one night where I was feeling pretty bad and had hubby stop at not one but 2 fast food places to get my "favorite old comfort as a kid food - cheeseburgers but after eating 3 of them.. was convinced that I will not miss them again. They no longer taste like what I remember and yes.. it took 3.. :) Amazing that on the raw food diet an apple or orange will fill me up. And I hadn't had beef in ages as I don't like the taste of it..

I've been exploring the internet trying to get "ideas" of what to eat and was excited when this community was suggested. I'm very glad you're here as this will help me broaden my eating ideas.

Yesterday.. I had an "orange juice" craving day and ate:
Breakfast: Orange
Snack: Orange - with orange, mango, and peach juice
Lunch: Salad of lettuce, tomato, radishes, red onion, and avocado sprinkled with a little olive oil & some celery with almond butter.
Snack: 2 oranges & some pecans
Supper: 4 dates, some pecans, and raisins
