new person & lyrics to Le Festin
I suppose this is the bit where I introduce myself. Hullo, all! I'm Ariella. I saw Ratatouille two days ago and found it very awesome indeed.
Something I particularly liked was the music; and when I found the mp3 for Le Festin I was exceedingly happy. it's just so beautiful, guys!
And since the lyrics are nowhere to be found online (and likely will be absent until the release of the movie's OST on the 31st), I decided to try my hand at transcribing and translating it. I think I got most of it correct, but there were one or two lines where Mlle Camille really really needs to enunciate. Or maybe I just need more practice. Either or. In any case, you can get the general gist of it!
It makes more sense in French, because French just lends itself better to song than English does. If anyone can make sense of the bits I didn't get, or correct anything I translated badly, I shall thank you many times! The things I'm not sure of are in (brackets), my notes are in (bracketed italics).
EDIT: thanks to
strainconductor and
echelon_ga_l (♥! so much ♥!), some lines have been changed to make more sense. The song is even better when you have the correct lyrics, wow.
EDIT redux: kindly anonymous helped with the phrasing of a line! Hurray hurrah ♥!
EDIT the third: two kindly anonymice! Two! ♥♥♥♥♥!
EDIT IV: More people have contributed; they are all made of win and candy.
Lyrics to Le Festin, sung by Camille
Un voleur, solitaire, est triste à nourrir (this is a pun off of 'triste à mourrir' and 'nourrir'; see here)
The Feast (translation of Le Festin)
They give joy or even sorrow
Weakened by hunger, I am unhappy
Stealing on my way everything I can
Because nothing in life is free.
Hope is a dish too soon finished
I am accustomed to skipping meals
A thief alone and hungry is sad enough to die (This isn't a direct translation at all, but it's the best way I could think of to explain the pun)
As for us, I am bitter, I want to succeed
Because nothing in life is free.
Never will they tell me that I cannot shoot for the stars;
Let me fill you with wonder, let me take flight
We will finally fea . . . st.
The party will finally start
And bring out the bottles, the troubles are over
I'm setting the table; tomorrow is a new life
I am happy at the idea of this new destiny
A life spent in hiding, and now I'm finally free
The feast is on my path
A life spent in hiding, and now I'm finally free
The feast is on my path. . . .
Once again, guys, if you can figure anything else out / correct an error of mine, that would be most wonderful indeed.
also I don't suppose anyone has a recipe for ratatouille that they know is good?
