A thrill born out of dislike, true enough -- but a thrill, nonetheless, setting his nerves on edge with excitement.

Hi, fellow Rarelitters. Just thought you might be interested in a little offering based not so much on the books but on the BBC TV Lark Rise To Candleford series. If I can manage to get this link right (not guaranteed) it should take you to my website:
TALL, DARK AND HANDSOME WARNING: Alternate (BBC) universe Not recommended for purists or fans of the original books.
That James could be familiar with that particular type of encounter had never entered [Robert's] head before. Indeed, if pressed, he would have said that but for a few youthful fumbles between farm boys - soon over and even sooner blushed about in recollection - there was no-one in the whole of Lark Rise who had any experience of intimate pleasure between men … with the notable exception of himself.
Enjoy!

Author's Notes:
This story takes place in a Nameless Castle, somewhere in SW Scotland during the autumn of 1930. It’s the same Wimsey-world as Fourth Herring, Policeman’s Lot and This Side o’ the Wa’; although it can be read independently.
Following the events narrated in Five Red Herrings, there has been a falling-out between Henry Strachan, the Golf Club Secretary, and Hugh Farren, the landscape artist (mentioned in passing in Fourth Herring). These two had formerly been close friends; Strachan having perjured himself to cover for Farren during the murder enquiry.
Mention is also made of Farren’s wife, Gilda; Michael Waters; Granny Fleeming (an OC from Fourth Herring and Policeman’s Lot); Milly and Myra, Strachan’s wife and small daughter; Inspector Mcpherson, and the Chief Constable.

Title: THIS SIDE O’ THE WA’ Fandom: Five Red Herrings by Dorothy L Sayers Characters: Charlie Duncan/Jock Graham, Helen McGregor, Mrs McLeod Rating: Conclusive Disclaimer: The characters belong to whoever owns Sayers' copyright. I make no money. This is homage. Don't sue!
Author's Notes: This story takes place in May 1945. Charlie returns from war-service in North Africa and Italy.
The title comes from The 51st Highland Division's Farewell to Sicily - "Leave yer kit this side o' the wa'"
Helen McGregor appears in Five Red Herrings as a 10-yo. Mrs McLeod is also a minor character - Michael Waters' landlady in Kirkcudbright.
This is definitively the LAST Charlie/Jock story.
