Padlock Necklace

Electrohurtz asked me earlier today about Branden's padlock necklace, so I did some research (Googled for like five minutes) and looked at some Rancid pictures (which I do most days anyway), and I have this report. Please feel free to add to or correct anything.

The chain padlock necklace came into prominence in punk circles in the mid 1970's in England, along with safety pins and torn clothing, back when "DIY" was called "being actually poor and disenfranchised by your country's class system". Since that was too long to tattoo on your knuckles, they called themselves "punk".

Branden traumatized by Dexter

I'm sorry, I won't post all his updates, but this one's just too adorable. From Branden's Facebook:

I just bought RancidLyrics.net. Depending on how difficult the software is I'll have it ready to go sometime between now and January 15th. Yay!

Top 50 Influential Punk Bands, Rancid #37, OpIvy #22

From moviesthe.com:

Top 50 Influential Punk Rock Bands
Posted on 13 December 2009

Punk rock is a perfect example of how music can so powerfully reflect an artist’s freedom of expression. But what is punk and what classifies music to be punk? More than simply a musical genre, punk is an attitude; it represents an individual’s everyday struggle and his reaction to it.

Punk has used multiple costumes, hair styles, and distinctive sounds and has gone through many transformations. I created this list not to point out the best punk bands or my favorites, but to provide a sort of history that shows examples of bands that were and continue to be major contributors to the formation of today’s music.

SEVEN GREAT UNDERRATED ALBUMS OF THE AUGHTS

You can't, I've been told, win them all. And that goes double for pop stars. They all flop from time to time. In the '00s, Madonna had her American Life. Whitney Houston had her Just Whitney. Mariah Carey, so unstoppable in the '90s, had her Charmbracelet. And Janet Jackson had... well, everything since Nipplegate.

Negative Album Review

From Mattycantfail:

Rancid - Let The Dominoes Fall: Lets see. Songs about East Bay? Check. Songs about Bro-hood? Check. Songs about being "punk?" Check. Songs trying to rip off Operation Ivy and The Clash? Check. A completely mediocre and forgetable album? Check. Rancid is the new Pennywise in terms of consistancy. Rancid, please, I'm begging you... stop writing new material. Every album is worse then the last. Just do what Social Distortion does and tour with the same fucking five albums you've been touring with for the last 10 years. I know Tim and Lars want to be Mike Ness, follow his lead.
