Rainfurrest BBQ and Zombie Resistance Meet June 21st
[info]northing

Warning!

The Anthro-Zombie Virus (AZV) is continuing to spread through the furry fandom!  Some have tried to pass it off as Pink Eye, but it’s far more deathly cute than that.  Do not be deceived.

As a public service of Rainfurrest there will be a BBQ gathering of the Anthro Zombie Resistance at Grass Lawn Park in Redmond, WA on Sunday June 21st from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Rainfurrest will provide the Resistance with nourishment for the fight in the form of burgers and hot dogs for all who attend.

We’d like to welcome all Rainfurrest attendees, their friends, and of course those wonderful non-zombie dads out there who will be celebrating their special day as well.  We ask that everyone bring side dishes, drinks, or deserts to help feed the masses that are expected.  Please do not bring or consume alcoholic beverages as it is both prohibited and our research has shown it is a factor in the spread of AZV.

Our survival gear must be rationed carefully, so Nerf guns for self-defense against the invading anthro-zombies will not be provided at this event.  Neither will Frisbees (which can be tossed to behead attacking zombies or just used for just a fun game of fetch) or other such park gear.  But this is a furry event and such fun is highly encouraged if you have your own to bring!

For more information about or directions to the park:
http://www.redmond.gov/insidecityhall/parksrec/parks/grasslawn.asp

If you have other questions about the BBQ, the zombie outbreak, the Rainfurrest convention, or the meaning of life (and un-death) please contact us through the Rainfurrest home page at:
http://www.rainfurrest.com

We’re looking forward to seeing all of our furry friends at this public BBQ.  While we haven’t found the cause or the cure to AZV and the deadly-cute threat these Anthro Zombies bring to the furry fandom, let the Resistance begin!

Rainfurrest News

Hello Rainfurrest Fans!

Outbreak!!

It's my duty to report a dangerous outbreak of cute, furry, anthropomorphic zombies has begun spreading from the Pacific Northwest faster than you can type H1N1. The identity of the original host and the origins of the outbreak remain cloaked in mystery but appear to date back to September, 2008.

We're investigating possible sources and cures at Rainfurrest but we may need your help this September to find out how this horrifically cute zombie attack can be thwarted. We'll keep you posted.

Big Enough?

Rainfurrest is growing. From our first event in 2007 with 370 fans attending, we grew to 599 fans in just one year. Rainfurrest 2009 is still five months away, but early data is showing our growth will continue. In preparation, we've expanded our con space including a larger Theater, Hangar, Fursuit Headless Lounge, and many other rooms. We've added a few more rooms for panels and events as well. Registration this year will include more kiosks to uphold our fandom-wide reputation for getting you registered and out enjoying the con at jet-city speeds.

That’s Entertainment

It’s been four years since 2 the Ranting Gryphon entertained in Seattle, so we’re bringing him back! 2 will do a comedy show, host some panels, and maybe even make an appearance at our Guest of Honor Dinner.   2 is a big part of the furry fandom, and we just thought it was really important we bring him here so all the new- or less-traveled furs have the chance to see and hear him yell and swear in person.

In addition to 2, we're very honored to have beloved musical guest Alexander James Adams return to Rainfurrest for a full concert. DJ's Ear Velvet (Thumper) and Audio Dile (Croc) will be supersizing our dances this year in our bigger, badder, and perhaps zombie-safe main theater.

We've also got a full plate of panels, games, and activities to fill our expanded con space. We'll be announcing those details a little later.

As we get bigger, we’re going to need lots more help in the theatre, monitoring games and events, checking IDs and credentials, setting up rooms, and keeping signs up to date … all those things that need doing. If you have always wanted a chance to be on staff, now’s the time to get involved! We’re hiring. Send an e-mail indicating your interest from the Rainfurrest website: www.rainfurrest.org

Rainfurrest on the Road

The intrepid staff has taken Rainfurrest on the road. (Are they responsible for spreading the anthro-zombie plague?!) Last month Rainfurrest showed the members of the Norwescon science fiction community what furry is all about at a pizza party. The very next day they helped educate the anime fans at Sakuracon.

Our next big event is the Rainfurrest party at All Fur Fun, May 15-17th. We’re going to host another pizza party and the hotel has agreed to set up a cash bar! This one’s going to be a lot of fun. (I mentioned the bar, right?)   I’d like to see as many Rainfurs as possible there.

New General Meeting Date

For those that missed the announcement, I’ve added another general staff meeting to the calendar for May 30th. It will be at the Seatac Marriott Hotel at 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. This is your chance to be exposed to the anthro-zombie virus and become “One of Us”!

Cheers,

North

Is Dealers Den still open?

I sent an email a few days ago, and also left a message on the forum, but I'm wondering if there are any spots left?  A friend and I are looking to share a table together, for our first furry convention. :D

No artist alley?
Me new hair
[info]lilstiney
No artist alley this year? I haven't been keeping tabs on things, so forgive me if this is old news. =P I was considering RF this year, but I can't afford, nor do I have enough display to warrant, a dealer table.

Introductions
[info]harleywolf
Yips! Hey guys... my name is Harley and I'm a yote from Sydney, Australia. I wouldn't normally introduce myself via Livejournal, but since I don't know that many US furs I thought I'd give it a shot. I'll be travelling to Seattle for Rainfurrest, and was thinking of hanging around the city for the week after to sightsee. However, I don't know anyone who is in Seattle (as of yet), and am interested in getting to know a few folks before I head over.

Travelling is all about sharing the experience with others... so any assistance with sightseeing or travel ideas would be fantastic :) If you like, just contact me via any of the IM's on my profile page, and I'd be happy to chat!

Anyway, hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and look forward to joining the furry throng at Rainfurrest 2009!

Resources on loan from the Empire!
I am not amused.
[info]dxarchlight
So, you want to borrow the Emperor's finest resources for the upcoming Rainfurrest event on September? Allow me to explain what we do:

Casual Appearances

The 501st takes great pride in its charitable works and promotional appearances, but there are those occassions when fun is still the primary call to action.

It's at these events where everything you thought you knew about the Empire flies out the window. You'll often find Stormtroopers, Bounty Hunters and Sith Lords acting conspicuously out-of-character and wearing things that could hardly be defined as standard Imperial issue.

If there's one thing our members have learned about dressing up in plastic, it's to have a good sense of humor. A Stormtrooper's frown is just a smile upside-down.

Charity Appearances

While the 501st was initially founded to unite costumers with a penchant for Star Wars villainy, one of our real-world missions is to bring good to our communities through volunteer charity work. The 501st is always looking for opportunities to brighten the lives of the less fortunate and to bring awareness to positive causes on both a local and global scale.

To schedule a request, contact the local garrison in the area via this site.

Folks!,
Rainfurrest is ramping up its planning for 2009, and we want your help in staffing out, we need people in all departments including Operations, Hospitality, Show and Communications, this includes both Lead and Non-Lead Positions, so, to push this along we have created a staff Survey, however to use this survey you must have attended a Rainfurrest before.

Anyhow, here is the survey link!

Updated videos
Whut?
[info]tenkri
The videos I posted originally were just driving me nuts... the quality and aspect ratio (youtube squashed them) was my main concern. So I spent some time to encode better quality versions while also fixing the aspect ratio so they letterbox properly.

Currently I have only re-uploaded the masquerade so far, but there will be more to come over the week.

My con report for RF2008
Lagarto
[info]bp_python
This is very detailed, probably boring for many. But I have my fans (I hope), and if nothing else, this is just my diary of what happened, so I can read it again later :)

So it does not take up 1500 lines on your friends page, it is here, behind the cut. )
Total air miles: 14,000 - total bonus to my frequent flier program, just a few miles short of a free domestic trip, or half of a free international trip. Not bad!

And thank you again to Fox-Dragon - you were the best random roommate of all time, and I would have to say, I want to see you again, just for some more awesome conversation. I had more fun at this convention than any in recent memory, and that is saying a lot, because EF2008 was fantastic. I will definitely be going back for RF2009, no doubt about it. Excellent job, all of the staff, the hotel, and the attendees made this one perfect experience.
