I love doing these, actually. ;D This one I wanted to do because I ended up losing a lot of info on these guys during my recent computer mishap, and thought I would try and get some of that back. So... here we go!

I was such a good girl today. For lunch, I stopped bythe store to pick up a salad and saw notbooks on sale 3 for 1.00! So I bought three and plan to leave them in my car for me to work out of durring lunchs. It would be nice to write at least three out of the five words days. 

Worked a bit on Landon's introduction today. Which did get me thinking about which key pieces I have already at least touched or started on.

Slowly getting back to work.

Working more on the chapter where Keira meets Dorian and Rachel, as well as the chapter where Dorian takes Keira to see Maxim.

So far, so good I guess. I just need to spend more time actually writing.

Also...I have decidedly become unfond of typing "The Republican Department of Location and Assignment" any more than three times in a chapter. lol.

A few more pages of scratch paper filled and needing to be typed up. I really need to get through Narnia already so I can really focus. Reading and writing at the same time never goes well for me.

I wonder why that is.

I am pleased with what I am getting accomplished. Should have a a few more cohesive chapters to post soon.

"Darkening" things up a bit as planned as well. I hope it comes across as such.

Haven't really been working on things much. Busy Sarah is busy.  I do finally have almost everyone renamed. I was stuck on a  chunk of them.

I keep wanting to call Case, Kai still. So Cace's last name is going to be Kaidan. More than likely at least. My one worry is that Keira Caldwell and Case Kaidan is still a lot of K's and C's though. But I have weeded out the majority of all the other K names.

Touya's new name is Issac Sheridan. Still having a hard time "casting" him though. For my own person ammusement, it's still going to have to be someone who would compliment Landon well. ^^;

Still want to come up with a good new name for Varon...
 
Lots of random scratch papers are filled with notes, ideas and blurbs  which I need to one day transfer to the computer so I can actually use them. Lots of Chapter 3 stuff, if I remember correctly. And Academy notes.

I don't know if I like the name Ivory Academy or not. Doesn't strike me as being a particularly inventive name. Or an impressive one at that.

I'm also finding that I kind of want to make Rachel a bit.. off. Slightly crazy characters are always fun. Plus it makes her story all the more angsty. 

 

Uhhh... I wrote this at work earlier, so I'm really only posting this so I don't lose it. 

I've been doing these little things I'm calling "snapshots" which is just me picking a random character and writing about them just as more of a glipse at them rather than anything plot-related. This might be used later. It might not. But at the very least, it'll help me develop characters better. Plus it's fun.

Hoping to have a new chapter to update within a day or so. Ohoho! I probably could have been done with it days ago, if I could stop myself from juomping around. I prefer to work in a linear progression, but my brain wants to skip ahead anyway. I'm taking what I can get, inspiration wise though, so I have random pieces from like four more chapters, and the majority of chapter one now complete. GO TEAM!

Anyway, I have a few more cast members! So here we go!

Just a few notes for today, but there is certainly a sort of theme to it. I've been working on this project for a good deal of time. Tons of notes on characters, notebooks full of designs, notebooks full of ... notes. I'd say an easy 3/5ths of the story is completely plotted out in specific detail, chapter by chapter by chapter. My entire main cast has back stories, most of them even come complete with specific character designs. I even have a 187-page storyboard reference now! It's all very well and good. It really is.

BUT! It's all been done with the mindset that this was going to be a very anime-culture geered graphic novel series. One I just DON'T have the skill set to properly pull off. People in my daily "real world" life like to look at me funny when I try to explain this. But I'm just trying to be realistic. And this isn't a problem. My problem is that my brain's been thinking in manga!mode for so long, so now when I sit to try and actually write it - it plays out in my head as a manga. Because my head still thinks my main character should look like the girl in the headder above... not a girl you'd bump into at the grocery store. Girls are in their short, pleated school-girl uniforms, there's the token pretty boy who probably doesn't like girls, battles are epic, reactions are exaggerated, characters are shown, not explained.

So to shift from manga!mode to novel!mode, here's a few things I think might help me.

Point A) RENAMING! This is a must for several characters. Japanese inspired names are going to be really lame in a novel about people who are probably not Japanese. This needs to happen soon, so they set into my brain. Or... reset as it will be.

Point B) Manga stereotypes have got to go. All of them. They were intentional the first time around. They are pointless now.

Point C) Darken it up some. Grow it up some. It'll make the story just that mush more interesting. **Also would like to thow in some scandals, twists, and revive a few side plots that had to be scratched the first time around.

Point D) This is a fun one that I think is really going to help me. I've realized lately that I've been thinking of them in 2D; drawn and characterized. Maybe try "casting" people as you would in a movie. It might make them more "realistic" especially in the cases of some characters who couldn't possibly look realistic if you were to keep their manga versions descriptions. (I'm looking at you Varon, Sora and Tori!)

After many long months of horrible writers block, and a complete story makeover, I've removed this "hiatus status: of this journal, dusted off those imaginary cobwebs and am ready to get back to work.

The story of Reign was originally going to be told in the format of a graphic novel and/or, manga. It had gotten of to a well enough start, and while I was determined and eager to complete the project, the truth of it was that I lacked the experience necessary to be able to successfully complete the project in a manner that I would be satisfied with. So after much deliberation, I've decided to keep the story idea intact, but switch the format in which it will be presented.

From here onward, Reign is to be a writing project, with the goal of it becoming a complete novel. Or perhaps a short, novel series depending on how things go. The current plot map placed the series in graphic-novel format complete after 16 volumes. This early into the novel, I'm not sure how to equate that to a prose format. So... I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
