Just give your username, or a nickname, or your real name. And if you know any authors, singers, activists, etc. who are radfem and under 35, could you give us their name. And maybe a little bio for both categories if you like, or a wee manifesto or whatnot. And do you/your rad fems you list identify as 2nd or 3rd wave?

This is not meant to belittle older radfems in any wany, shape, or form. They're more than welcome to comment too, but please state you're older than 35, so i don't count you as a "young" rad fem.

Also, please post this other rad fem/feminist communities, blogs, etc. Let's get this thang going!

X-POSTED LIKE I'M DRINKING JUICE

Throughout the United States the inherent rights of women to decide what to do with their own bodies are under attack. Most frequently the attack is targeted at poor women, women of color, and young women. This assault takes many forms; it underlies legislation concerning parental notification and Supreme Court cases concerning a medical procedure which Congress has given the meaningless and misrepresenting name "partial birth abortion." It is glaringly obvious in the initiatives concocted to make abortion, including in the case of rape and incest, illegal and in the refusal by pharmacies to carry emergency contraceptive. Up until the 1970's it even took place through the forced sterilizations of tens of thousands of women of color, disabled women, and even some men.

Even if there were no threatening legal cases or legislation, many women still would not have access to clinics, emergency contraceptives, or funding for either. In South Dakota, the state where a recent attempt to make abortion illegal was defeated by 55% of the voting population in referendum, there is only one clinic which performs abortions and it is only open one day a week. The doctors that staff this clinic are flown in every week from out of state because no in-state doctor is willing to risk their safety. Doctors who offer abortion procedures across the United States , including South Dakota , have received countless threats. Besides this there have also been numerous acts of murder and continual violence at clinics, including bombings and arson.

In the six states bordering South Dakota there are 23 clinics, giving this expansive seven state region a total of 24. This is more than five times less than the number of clinics California , three times less than Florida , and equal to the number of clinics in the state of Washington. Whether or not abortion is legal in South Dakota is purely symbolic; women barely have access.

In order to defend a woman's right to control her own body and to support women lacking resources and access, a new collective has formed within South Dakota: the Uterus Liberation Front (ULF).

OUR BELIEFS
While the ULF's objectives are mainly concerned with a woman's right to terminate her pregnancy, we are dedicated to total reproductive freedom for all women. This means that women not only have access to abortions and contraceptives; they also have the right to have as many children as they want, whenever they find it appropriate.

We recognize that reproductive freedom is not just a woman's issue; it is an issue of race and class as well, as these women are affected the most. We also recognize and denounce the actions of previous abortion rights groups who joined forces with racist politicians and eugenicists, who sterilized generations of women of color, poor women, and disabled women, to achieve their right to abortion. We honor the women of color responsible for the evolution of the predominately white, upper\middle class, feminists' fight for abortion rights, to the fight for total reproductive freedom for every woman.

We consider any assault on women's reproductive freedom to be an act of violence and repression perpetrated against an entire half of the population of the United States .

We do not deny that each abortion terminates a potential life. A fetus should be treated as neither a cancerous tumor nor a human being but as a potential life. It is absurd to belittle the emotional factor of terminating a pregnancy by pretending an abortion is nothing more than removing a lifeless growth, or by using euphemisms such as "the right to choose." However, equating the quality of life of a woman to that of a fetus, through legislation that gives rights to fetuses, is offensive and degrading to women and suggests that they are nothing more than reproductive vessels.

We aim to make abortion the empowering and positive experience it can be by treating women with the dignity they deserve and by helping them find the support that they need.

OUR DEMANDS

1. Abortion remains a legal and safe option for all women regardless of the circumstances concerning their pregnancy.
2. Abortion, Emergency Contraceptive, and general contraceptives become realistic financial options for all women regardless of their income, race, age, religion, citizenship status, or the circumstances concerning their pregnancy.
3. The Hyde Amendment, which allows Federal and State health care programs to deny funding for abortions, be repealed immediately.
4. Patients and their doctors decide which operations are to be performed, not Congress.
5. Hospitals provide abortion services in order to grant more women access to the procedures.
6. Emergency Contraceptive be made available in all Emergency Rooms for survivors of rape and incest.
7. Emergency Contraceptive be made available to everyone, regardless of age.
8. No mandatory waiting periods between abortion counseling and the procedure.
9. All parental notification laws be repealed.
10. Schools are given funding to teach children that contraceptives and abortion are options. No more "abstinence only" education.
11. All government funding for "pregnancy crisis centers" and other fronts for antichoice groups be cut off or denied.
12. Abortion clinics, doctors, and patients must be protected and defended. If the government will not do this then we must do it on our own.
13. Reparations be given to survivors of forced sterilization programs.

WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO
Our first step in securing these demands will be to establish an abortion fund in Rapid City , South Dakota . This fund will provide monetary resources to women in need for transportation to clinics and to help pay for the procedure itself. We will also attempt to offer child care and locate housing in the case of forced waiting periods.

This is only the initial phase. We will also establish a women's library and hopefully develop a speakers' bureau, hold film showings, lectures, and workshops, and provide materials concerning the history of abortion in America , alternatives to surgical abortion, and other related topics. We will support the formation of women's gynecological self-help groups in whatever way necessary, such as providing them with a meeting space, acquiring donations of speculums or other materials, and helping them make contact with experienced midwives, women's health activists, and other self-help groups.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
If you live in Rapid City :

-We will need reliable volunteers to help field calls and manage our office.
-We will need volunteers with valid driving licenses and vehicles to offer safe transportation one day a week, one day every other week, or once a month.
-We will need dependable, loving volunteers to offer child care.

If you live in Sioux Falls or other, relatively, close areas with clinics:

-We will need volunteers who are willing to house women for a night or two.

If you live anywhere:

-We need funding and any amount will help. You can donate here: www.uterusliberationfront.org.

The money will go to provide services for women in need, pay our phone bill so women can contact us, rent for office space, photocopies, etc. Also, to remain accountable to donors, we will post on our website all the funding we receive, whether it was from an organization or individual, and what we have spent the money on.

-We need people to raise money in their areas for the Uterus Liberation Front. These fundraisers could be benefit shows, potlucks, performances of "The Vagina Monologues", workshops, poetry readings, film showings, or anything else you can come up with. If you need ideas email us and we may be able to help.

-We need herbalists, midwives, doctors, choice activists, etc. who are willing to give workshops or lectures for little or no money.

-We need donations of women’s health books, feminist texts, zines, and other related materials.

-We need gift cards for office supply stores.

-We need you to tell everyone about this. Email this to your friends, print it out and post it on a bulletin board, tell your family, put it on your blog, whatever you can do.

CONCLUSION

It is time for everyone to demand that reproductive rights be respected and protected. The Uterus Liberation Front is focusing on South Dakota
because we watched as the abortion ban was struck down and heard the cheering. While we celebrate and thank those who worked diligently to
raise opposition to the ban, everyone must remember that the fight is not over. We all still need to come together and secure our ability to
control our own reproduction.

In Solidarity,

UTERUS LIBERATION FRONT

The Kirstin Lobato Trial

Have you heard about the Kirstin Blaise Lobato trial yet? I found out about it years ago, and it has troubled me ever since. An 18-year old girl defended herself against a rapist. Because she had apparently struck him in the "groin area," a detective named Thomas Thowsen arrested her for the murder, mutilation, and sexual assault of a homeless man she had never met who had suffered a "groin injury" post-mortem.

Today, in testimony you can see on Court TV Extra, this detective could not even defend the reasons for why he had arrested her at all. We are attempting to rally both national and international support to ensure that she gets a fair trial this time around. Articles, websites, and wrongful conviction sites from Canada have not been enough to convince the world to give this young woman a fair trial. From previous blogs, to current ones - from international support to radio and national justice conferences, Kirstin has still not received the support, encouragement, and the justice that she deserves. Your voice *can* make a difference in her fight for justice.

If you want to help personally email me at LindseyOliver@hotmail.com .

and remember Livejournal isn't enough! believe it or not everyone isn't on livejournal (haha!), here are some ideas of where you can get this message out:

-forward it to yr email lists... including activist groups, campus feminist & queer groups, personal friends and family members, people who you know are in the pro choice movement and can give time or money.
- bring it up at yr meetings you go to. fundraisers are being organized all over the country as we speak to send money to Jackson! every little bit helps!
- if you know a distributor of goods we need listed below ask them to donate some stuff! water bottles, t-shirts, heck markers and paint would do wonders!
- going to a conference? summer is the season for good conferences! bring this up guerilla workshop style: brainstorm and talk amongst interested people and come up with a plan of what you can do.
- CALL people who you know might be interested in this, doesn't matter how far they are from you, we need EVERYONE'S HELP!
-not part of any groups, contact yr local NOW's, abortion funds and other feminist groups. even if you think they've already heard about this!
- and of course livejournal groups i've missed, myspace, other internet groups and places!

TALK IT UP TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!

just remember that abortion becoming illegal WILL BE a domino effect. and the south will GO! lets show these assholes that we mean business and we aren't going to let this happen!

Love, Lindsey Oliver
LindseyOliver@hotmail.com
Southern Abortion Fund

Hello Friends and Allies,

Operation Save America (formerly Operation Rescue) has put out a call for a siege on the last abortion-providing clinic in Jackson, Mississippi this summer. (See http://jackson.operationsaveamerica.org/indexVideo.asp for more information on their plans.) Their message is being spread far and wide and we are planning a massive clinic defense demonstration to keep the clinic open. July 15-22, 2006 is the proposed siege week.
In order to sustain a weeks worth of clinic defense we are in need of a variety of support and especially people to participate in the counter-action. Currently, members of abortion funds across the south are planning for a caravan to Jackson and we need your help! If you are interested in participating in the caravan or would like to become a fiscal sponsor, please contact us as soon as possible!
Also, we are in desperate need of items like water bottles and food for the persons who will be convening in Jackson as well as housing opportunities for the activists. We are also raising money to raise awareness with buttons, stickers, t-shirts, and other items. Any letters to the editor that you send regarding this event would be helpful or any other publicity for that matter. We are hoping for a big turn out to let the rest of the south know that we are in this together. For more information or to find out how to donate contact the Southern Abortion Fund at southernabfund@nnaf.org or the Jackson area NOW chapter at jxnms_now@yahoo.com.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Quillin of the Southern Abortion Fund

One of the most pervasive undercurrents of Neopaganism is that of Goddess-worship (or spirituality, if you prefer)--the spritely Maiden, the divine Mother, and the oft-neglected Crone. I've met many a Dianic who will tell me that we must reclaim the power that the Goddess "once had."

Well, first off--if we, as Dianics, all agree that She has always existed and that She is All, she has always had power. It's never ebbed away, and it cannot be interrupted by anything short of blinking out of existence.

Second off--the Goddess has never had many available roles in classical, patriarchal religion. We know that She is much more than the roles she is typically assigned, most common of which is the Mother. For a movement toward a feminist view of deity, isn't this rather limiting? Certainly, there's nothing inherently WRONG with a Maiden-Mother-Crone cycle-structure deal. I believe that as long as we restrict ourselves to the view of simply a Mother deity--a doting, gentle woman happy to keep the role that men assign to her--we have reclaimed nothing.

The reason that most goddesses are lumped into the category of "Mother" is because that is what women traditionally are. The ultimate aspiration of ladies of old was to be a supportive wife and a mother of many children. As such, the Goddesses they worshipped reflected the typical role of wife and mother. There were very few Goddesses without husbands or lovers, keeping to themselves or their nymphs. (The ones I can think of off the top of my head are Artemis and Athene.)

This is an outmoded form of thinking for a lot of today's feminists. Where are the warrior Goddesses? Where are our Sisters and Friends rather than our Divine Parents? Nowhere to be found! Our only options are Artemis--a Goddess of the Moon, a far-off being who prefers not to be involved in human affairs--and Athene, a strong supporter of the patriarchy and the dominant paradigm.

We must find the Earth-witch-warriors within ourselves and elevate Her essence to Goddesshood. When we have learned that we cannot rely on men's disconnected, fuzzy image of the Goddess, and learn that She exists within us and without us, we will have taken our first step on the path to liberation. Patriarchal religion has little to offer the modern ecofeminist warrior. This includes (most) Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and, yes, reconstructions or reworkings of classical religions.

Of course, it's anybody's right to worship as they please. Maiden-Mother-Crone, Mother, Father, Grand Cosmic Muffin... Whoever. The thing I ask most is that people remember peace and love. It rests within us all; it is our special power, and we've got to use this power to bring our dreams to life.

Asking for assistance

I'm posting here because I have nowhere else to turn. I'm currently 5-6 weeks pregnant and am looking to have an abortion. After contacting all the abortion centers within a 250 mile radius, the lowest price I could find was 658$. I"m currently a graduate student at a university and barely make enough to cover my rent. Thus finances being what they are, I contacted nnaf.org and every fund they had listed for my state. So far I've either been denied assistance due to low funds, or I've not received an answer from my various attempts to contact them. The midwives I've contacted in the area are all unwilling to help terminate a pregnancy at home and my own attempts using vitamin C and Dong Quai have been unsuccesful in initiating a miscarriage. In order to raise money, I"m trying to sell the only items of value that I own ( my violin and digital camera), but even if I sell them both, it'll still be 250$ or less. I"m 22 so parental permission is not a problem, but asking them for assistance is out of the question. My father is a baptist minister, and my mother is of the same mind. I've requested help from all of my friends with whom this subject is safe to discuss and one friend has told me that he probably can lend me a hundred dollars in a week or so. Thus having thoroughly examined my options, my funding resources and my timeframe, I"m going to appeal to people who support abortion as an option to help me through this. And no, I don't enjoy asking strangers for help, but at this point, I"m willing to try. I"m sure I"m probably going to get some flak for asking for help at all, but please, I'm just trying. If you don't want to help, that's fine. Just please try not to attack me, I don't think I could handle much of that right now. If you want to confirm my identity and my situation I"ll be happy to return emails or calls (email and I"ll send you my phone number). If you want to donate, I've set up a paypal account using the email ethniu82 @ hotmail.com. Any donation would be appreciated, even just a few dollars. Once I've reached the amount I need, I"ll freeze the account and return all other donations. I'll also attempt to pay back what's been given over time, but it might take a while to cover everything. Please help. This will be cross posted in as many communities as I think would be open to the idea.

We reject this knowing or unknowing alliance.

At this site you will see who on the Left has been used by Larry Flynt:
some unwillingly, some willingly, and some enthusiastically like Greg
Palast.

You can read their own explanations of how some, like Noam Chomsky,
were misled to be in Hustler magazine, you will be alerted to which groups
Flynt routinely targets for abuse, and you will find analysis of
Flynt’s speech relative to the speech of those he participates in oppressing.

If you are concerned about corrupt corporate limitations on human
freedoms, civil rights, speech rights, and animal rights, we invite you to
visit Hustling The Left. This site was created for responsible speech to
exist and be dispersed freely by you about the harm done by corporate
pimp Larry Flynt and his pornography empire, including his
collaborators, apologists, and his financially well-endowed bevy of lawyers.

Our speech is as protected as Flynt’s even though we’re not government
spin-doctors, media moguls, advertising agencies, multimillionaire
pornographers, and corporate pimps. This site exposes how Flynt’s
harassment and bombastic bluster in response to our speech; and how he has used
harassment and intimidation techniques so typical of those in power
with greater privileges and resources.

Oppressed and systematically silenced people have no media empires, or
reliable access to mainstream media, through which to speak critically
about media, culture, and the politics of each. This site provides a
forum for radical voices to be heard. --F.U.C.K. (Feminists Uncovering
Censorship Knowledgeably), July 14, 2005

:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:<>:

We, the contributors to this new website, are using our First Amendment
right to expose and critique hate speech. We are focusing here on
corporate pimp and pornographer Larry Flynt because so many politicos and
pundits from the Left have failed to comment on, much less confront
Flynt’s hate speech. While Flynt's censored speech has been celebrated in
mainstream film, the multibillion dollar sexxxism industry is mimicked in
commercial advertising and pornography's themes and aesthetics are
commonplace on TV shows. The sexual exploitation, violence, and degradation
--that previously were only found in pornography and other real-life
sexual exploitation, violence, and degradation, is no longer only a
staple in the centerfolds of a few adult magazines, but is, rather, a staple
of corporate-owned media.

The omnipresence of this particular form of speech is responded to in
two ways by the increasingly impotent press: wide-ranging apologetics or
an utter lack of critical attention. We contend that the sexxxism
industry's systematic human rights abuses are atrocious and the Left must
speak to the atrocious harm of the overlapping sexxxism industries:
pornography, prostitution, trafficking, sex tourism, and sexual slavery.

Flynt has engaged for some time in a battle for social prominence and
power. What is largely unnoticed, or, if noticed, unchallenged by
anyone, is his war against those who speak out against him. We think the
contents of this site will reveal what he wishes to keep under wraps: Larry
Flynt is a hostile, misogynist, racist, power-hungry corporate pimp
rather than a poor, besieged, free speech hero.

His pornographic speech rides on the life-breath of subordinated
people. We understand that even more people are dehumanized by the
consumption of Flynt’s speech. We are increasingly transformed into compulsive
consumers of the sexxxism industry's hate speech. This hate speech
fosters addiction and despair and is fueled by harm and humiliation. Younger
generations of women now think pornography is eroticism, that stripping
on a pole is sexual liberation, and that being sexually used--with or
without consen--is acceptable or unavoidable. Tragically, a
sexxx-obsessed public has been mind-fucked by the messages in pornography.

In an effort to keep his status erect, Flynt has wooed some people in
the anti-corporate Left while simultaneously targeting feminists and
feminism, using the First Amendment as his club. This site is our response
to his efforts to intimidate and harass us. This site also reflects our
demand that the Silent Left be held accountable for its collaboration
and complicity with Flynt. We encourage those on the Left to clarify
their positions on these corporate violations of human and animal rights.

At this site you will see who on the Left has been used by Larry
Flynt's multimillion dollar pornography empire; some unwittingly or
unwillingly, like Noam Chomsky, others willingly, and some enthusiastically,
like Greg Palast. You will read their own explanations—about how some were
misled, lied to, and demeaned by Hustler and their representatives.

Please be advised: This site is for people over 18 only. Please go no
further if you are under 18 years of age. If you are triggered by hate
speech visual imagery we strongly caution you about entering this site.
It is in no way our intention to re-traumatize anyone already injured
by the kind of material presented here. On the other hand, we hope that
our analysis of the hate speech images here will be empowering. Each
page of this site contains link back to this warning.

Nikki Craft, F.U.C.K.
