3rd time we tried this and the first time we won - technically. Unfortunately as we did 16 lines at £1.50 each thus spending £24, we got one line with 2 plus 2 which equals £23.20, so we nearly broke even! We're getting better! Next time profit!

Subject:A small reminder
Posted by:sideswipe9th.
Time:1:22 am.
Hey guys.

Just wanted to remind you all that this Wednesdays meeting will not be happening due to another group booking the room on us :( . However I've heard that several members are planning to meet up and head around to a bar, they are planning on meeting in the Students Union at around 7pm and hopefully heading to Bar Sub for a little pool. In the event of the bar there being closed they will probably head around to one of our usual places of drinking :)

The other thing I would like to remind you of is our AGM. This will be happening on Wednesday April 30th, with the official business  most likely starting around 8pm. If you wish to stand for any of our committee positions (all of which are up for grabs) you can find information on them on the Committee page on our website. Please note that to be eligible to stand for a position you need to be a registered member of the society, and that four of the positions require you to be a QUB student. If you have any other business you would like to bring up please mention it to me in advance of the meeting ;)

Hey guys.
Just have a couple of updates for those of you who weren't there on Wednesday. Next Wednesday (April 23rd) there will be no offical meeting, this is due to another group booking the room all day long before we managed to book our time (Grrr). I believe some people are planning on meeting up in a bar but at this time I don't know any more details on that.

The following week (April 30th) we shall be having our AGM, where we shall be doing the necessary task of voting in the new committee. If you are interested in standing for any of the positions take a look at the committee details page for a description on each of the positions. If for any reason you are unable to attend, but are wanting to stand for a committee position drop me an e-mail (chairbeing@qubscifi.org.uk) with the position you want to stand for and a short statement saying what you would hope to do in the position.

Oh and if you have any business you would like to bring up at the AGM please e-mail me about it so I can put it into the meeting agenda.
Hope to see you there!

Subject:Meetings resuming
Posted by:sideswipe9th.
Time:1:47 pm.
Hey.

This Wednesday (2nd April) our weekly meetings will be resuming. As always they start at 6.30pm and continue on to 10pm. The SU management wanted me to ensure that we are all out by 10pm at the latest, and as such all activities will be winding down at around 9.50pm.

That said, there are a couple of dates that you should mark down. On Wednesday 8th April our meeting will be starting an hour later than usual, due to another group having the room booked until then (grr ;) ) and on Wednesday 23rd there will be no meeting again due another group booking the room for the entire day (GRR ;) ). Don't worry if you forget, there will be reminders before these dates.

Other than that, we all hope you had a great Easter and hope to see you this week :)

Subject:Easter Holiday
Posted by:sideswipe9th.
Time:2:16 pm.
Hey guys, sorry about the short notice (blame it on an administrative screw-up).

Unfortunately there will be no meeting this week and next (26th) due to the Students Union being closed. We shall hopefully be starting back on April 2nd, however this is yet to be confirmed (due to the room booking policy of the Union). Check back here or our website during the holidays for updates on this.

Sorry again about the short notice.

Arthur C Clarke, father of the Communication Satellite, Sci-Fi novelist, visionary and explorer of the mysteries of the Human world, is dead. Though I never had the honour of meeting the bloke, he was a constant presence in my life, whether through his Sci-Fi, his Mysterious World series and books, or his science - as many people will doubtless feel, almost like a surrogate grandfather; the one who imparted a lifetime's worth of wisdom and made it sound cool. As with Carl Sagan, the world is a lesser place without him.

RIP.

Posted by:xipuloxx.
Time:11:41 pm.
Hi everyone,

As time is marching on I have decided to have a brainstorming session
for Mecon entertainment tomorrow. If you have any ideas on videos,
panels, anything you want to see or do at Mecon, come along and help me
out. We are meeting in the foyer of the Student Union at 7.30pm
tomorrow (that's Tuesday 19 Feb). If you can't make it till later we
will probably be in whatever bar is open in the Union. if you can't
make it all then please post any ideas you have on the mailing list or
forums.

Hope to see many of you tomorrow.

Helen.

Subject:News update and book sale.
Posted by:sideswipe9th.
Time:3:38 pm.
Ahoy there.

Christmas is fast approaching and you may be thinking about gifts to get for your friends and family. Here is where we can help. This Saturday from 12pm till around 8pm we are having a book sale at the Slayers24 event. Entry to the Slayers event will cost £5, but that will allow you to enter all the gaming tournaments there for the entirety of the 24 hours :) At the book sale we shall be selling off (hopefully) a large portion of our huge library (over 600 books, assorted DVDs and VHS videos and a couple of audio books). The library contains some nice rare jems that you may not be able to find anywhere else for a very long time, so come early to avoid dissapointment. The event will be taking place in the QUB Students Union in the Snack Bar on the second floor. We hope to see you there.

In other news, on Wednesday night we had our Christmas dinner. Great fun was had by all, and many pictures were taken. Within the next few days, expect a gallery to appear on site with pictures of the event :)

Plan is: meet at union 8:30pm, walk around to Madisons at 8:45pm and sit down for meal at 9ish. I will have a meal booking form that people can make out at the union so that we can speed up the actual getting the food.

Remaing monies will be taken at Madisons.

See you there.

Subject:Forums and more!
Posted by:sideswipe9th.
Time:1:59 pm.
Hey guys.

We are pleased to announce that our forums are now open for business. There you will be able to point out plot holes, engage in geeky discussion and squee with fellow fans. To get there just click on the Forums link on our site :)

Last week we attempted to have a quiz night. However due to there being a lack of people we were unfortunately forced to cancel it at the last moment. Therefore in a last minute change to our schedule we shall try and have our quiz night this week. There will be a prize for the winning team as always :D

On Saturday we hosted a Doctor Who Day in the Students Union. The event was reasonably successful and we were able to raise £99. Thanks to all who attended and took part.

As you may notice, we now have the first of our new banners. However we are still looking for more to make the site look even better. To remind you, we are looking for banners that are 780x200 pixels and preferably in the PNG image format. A large version of the offical society logo can be downloaded here. Please submit all banner applications to chairbeing@qubscifi.org.uk. I hope to see some interesting submissions from you soon :),

Finally, due to circumstanced beyond our control, next Wednesday (December 5th) we are unable to use our regular venue in the Students Union. As such we decided to have our Christmas Dinner that night instead. This week is the last week for getting in your deposits (£15) and registering interest for attending. We hope to see you in attendance.

This all-nighter will be special, as between the hours of 12pm and 8pm on the Saturday, Dragonslayers will be hosting a Bring & Buy Sale. If you have anything you are looking to get rid of, such as old games, DVDs or books then bring it along and try to flog it! All proceeds go to the people who bring the stuff. :)
