I'm not really sure what to say here. The fact that people are claiming you can't draw is the height of stupidity. Or maybe it's just they are making knee jerk assessments they have no real basis for. I'm not sure. I hate to call them out, but the simple fact is, you can draw. It may not be whatever style they like, but if they base their assumptions solely off their own personal tastes, then I imagine most of the internet is pretty darn boring for them.

Every good comic creator is different. Every comic they draw is different. I've enjoyed your art and storylines quite a bit for awhile now. Sure the art style isn't as involved as some things I read or look at, but sometimes that is what makes it great. Some comics get too involved in the art and let the stories go to crud. You manage to balance both nicely. Especially given the fact that this is something you do for fun and to share with the world.

I don't see what gives a fan the right to trash talk one comic over another just because they come from different places. I'm kind of confused especially when I look at the comic they are comparing it to. I have no problem with the other comic, but to compare your comic and art to a sprite comic is laughable.

At the risk of sounding like a kiss up here, at least one good thing came of this, I got to see some other stuff you've drawn. I hadn't seen most of those links before.

Keep it up, I love your work, it's well worth waiting for and I pimp it out every chance I get.

*Looks at a comic that is the latest in a series of incredibly well drawn pieces by an obviously hardworking artist*

*Looks at yet another shitty sprite comic*

Modest destiny means he obviously intended to get buried somewhere, anyhow.

Ditto [info]supamunky.

I've had people hook up with me via LJ because I mentioned QoW.

I've never even fucking heard of "A Modest Destiny."

Sounds like a bunch of pud-whacking pre-adolescents in the message boards out to chafe your ass because their comic isn't number one, Aeire; fuck 'em.

You can draw, and you know you can draw like nobody else's business.

No one else's opinion counts for shit.

As I am yet another avid reader (and voter) telling you that your art and story are both good, and personally enjoyable. Additionally, I have pimped out your comic on several occasions, and have heard back that friends enjoy it... so I know it ain't just me. :P

I wish we lived in a world where the fans who felt it necessary to attack you would realise that their own personal tastes in art & webcomics are just that: theirs. QoW floats my boat; AMD floats theirs; diversity is good. Now if only they could see it that way.

I've really got nothing against AMD. I don't really think it's a bad comic. I just don't think that it should be compared to mine. It's two entirely different things. And the author/artist is good at what he does - those are all original sprites and backgrounds that he did by hand, and they're really well-done. I appreciate the fact that he's not ripping game sprites like some of the comics I've seen out there - it shows that he really does care about this strip he's doing. It's not that his strip is better or worse than mine is - it's that the two are being compared like this, when doing that is like comparing apples and oranges. There's really no benefit or point in comparing the two of them. *shrugs*

Stupid little gits.

I came to QoW through another webcomic and was immediately impressed by the art. I've seen plenty of comics (print and web) that look like they've been scrawled in a couple of minutes with a cheap pen. QoW is consistently *wonderful* to look at. So don't let any of the little buggers say you can't draw, because you damn well can.

And as if it wasn't lovely to look at, it's bloody funny too, consistently. I've tried cartooning, and am amazed that anyone can keep coming up with new ideas and jokes regularly for any length of time and still be great.

(bows in worship at feet)

I already pimped QoW to a couple of friends the other day along with a couple of other webcomics I like, I will promptly be pimping it again on my LJs.

I'd never heard of "A Modest Destiny" before today and after hearing about it's fans, I honestly have no wish to find out any more about it.

As for why they're comparing two completely different styles of strip? Sadly it's all too common these days, this rox, this sux! It's why I stay away from much of usenet and a lot of mailing lists these days. Ho hum.

So you just relax, enjoy your vacation. There'll be a mahoosive pile of us waiting for you when you come back, 'kay? :)

Don't listen to them. Just a bunch of sexually-deprived fanboys attacking that which they don't understand. They are ONLY doing it to make you mad.

QoW is one of my favorite comics BECAUSE of the art. I *love* how you do faces; the expressiveness of your characters is amazing. My favorits strips are the ones where Kestrel freaks out over something and runs through a range of emotions. (like the Yuna strip, or when she finds her panties on eBay) Your characters have *real* character, and that takes huge talent.

And like others on this LJ, I hadn't even heard of Mall Monkeys or Modest Destiny until just now. So Nyah to them.

I Like both A modest destiny and QoW.
QoW is well drawn, has a great storyline, and is one of the only comics that can make me laugh. Most of all I love the aeire's art.
A Modest Destiny is funny too, and I Don't mind the sprites so much, since its the only sprite comic I read.
I Don't have anything bad to say about either comics or creators. They're both great. I know alot more work must go into QoW because it is drawn... but still. Both enjoyable.

My two cents... the day I found your strip I spent Lady Along Knows How Much Time I Didn't Have going through the archives reading the ENTIRE thing!! I pimp it all the time and I vote every day. It's bookmarked under "funnystuff". Heck, I was hitting that button that wasn't working every day to make sure I wouldn't miss it when it started working again. To say you don't know how to draw is LUDICROUS!!!!! YOU ROCK!!!! Otherwise I would not run around with your work emblazoned on my chest. Seriously. I'll ignore the yo-yos who say otherwise... they are beneath my dignity... other artists' styles are other artists' styles. DUH. They can go bite a wild raging...

Ok as a member of a college marching band and having had my share of overzealous fans go after me just cause I'm wearing a University uniform, I think I have had enough experience to say people like that sicken me.

My respect for the community for 'Modest Destiny' has seriously dropped. Although I'm not gonna stop reading the comics over there. (cause I'm kinda hooked on that comic as well as a few others) QoW rates well above it in my book.

Please keep reading his strip. I'm not asking anyone to boycott the thing - and to be fair, it's not *all* his fans. There's others out there as well, I'm sure. *shrugs* It's just that his are the most vocal about where they came from.

Not quite the same thing. The forumites from Mall Monkeys went over to AMD and started posted some really, really horrible pictures (goats...y'know, that one, and the tub one, and I am SO not linking to them because they're *sick*). The author of the strip was naturally UPSET about this - because most of his readers are kids. We're talking 12 and up or something like that. They don't need to see this stuff. He got pissed off, again understandably, and contacted these people to let them KNOW he was upset. However, he *also* went and emailed the author/artist of Mall Monkeys - who had absolutely nothing to do with the 'attack' whatsoever. And he posted about it in a public thread - which really wasn't a good idea IMO - I figure if you've got an issue with somebody, you should resolve it in a private manner.

What *his* fans are doing - and I'm going to stress this, it's not just his fans, they're just the most vocal out of the bunch is not posting horrible pictures on my forum. They don't even venture ONTO my forum as far as I know. What they ARE doing is making snide comments and emails here and there about how my comic sucks, I can't draw, AMD is so much better than I am, on and on and on - and I'm sick of it. I'm just sick and tired of listening to it, and I'm sick and tired of putting up with it.

I don't want his strip boycotted. I don't want his forum attacked. I don't really *want* anything bad to happen to this guy at all. I just want people to vote for QoW, and show their support - because my comic is not and never WILL BE the 'crap' that these kids are saying it is, and I want to SHOW them that in a manner they understand.

Man. I read AMD, it's good, it's original sprite work. I've been pleased with it.

I read QoW. It's good, it's hand-drawn, etc, etc. I've been pleased with it.

I'm ashamed of AMD's apparently-vocal fans. WTF? Aeire, you CAN draw. You can write. You churn out good stuff. Is it as regular as some of us would like? No, but, hey, I won't be TRULY ecstatic until you're sitting in my living room producing the thing in real-time. ;)

I'm proud that QoW's fans haven't done crap like that. It's all about being more mature than they are.

I hate when webcomic zealot monkeys get into a holier-than-thou phase. You and I both know that in an ideal world all the fans would get along, but there's always the 12-year-old mentality of "my whatever's better than your whatever!" - the saddest thing is that we're never going to get rid of it.
