Name of the "Rekindle the Flame" drug??? [Dec. 14th, 2006|04:33 pm]

qaffangyrl
Hey I'm working on my QAF Season 6 fic and I need to know  the name of the drug that Remson Pharmaceuticals developed for erectile dysfunction during the end of Season 5.  Anybody know what they called the drug?

ETA: I know it's not Endovir. That was the HIV/AIDS drug.

Bottom Line According to LJ FAQ 196 [Jun. 25th, 2006|11:50 pm]

happier_bunny
[mood | aggravated]

If you are the maintainer of an adult-oriented community, you must:
  • Configure your community to have Closed or Moderated Membership and restrict membership to the community only to users whose birthdates on their userinfo page indicate that they are over the age of 18. All future members must display their full birthdate, including year, on their User Info page.
  • Remove any member from your community who has a birthdate listed which would make them under the age of eighteen, or who has not listed their complete birthdate in their userinfo, including year.
  • Require that all adult or explicit material to your community be posted with a security level of Members-only, including any past entries. You should also set the minimum security level for the community to be Members-only.
  • Delete any public entries containing explicit content, unless the entry poster is willing to mark their entry as Members-only. All remaining public entries in the community must be free of adult content.

Therefore, in two days, we will be going through the current members of this community to check their user info page for their date of birth. Once you're approved, what you do is no longer my problem as I see it. I understand that this is a huge inconvenience, and you can all feel free to get mad at me and not [info]_alicesprings because I'm a stickler for the rules.

In addition, if you've made a post in this community prior to June 24, 2006, you have to go back and edit it to friends only, or we will be forced to delete it.

Believe me, this is no fun for us either and it definitely is not my choice to have to play parent and censor.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation over the next week or so as we get everything in place and we look forward to getting back to what's important....QUEER AS FOLK and BRIAN AND JUSTIN, specifically.

Brian's Sexiest/Hottest Moments [Jun. 21st, 2006|09:13 pm]

cherrygurl31
After reading [info]happier_bunny's last couple of posts (QAF funniest memories and Favorite snarky Brian lines) and reading through all the wonderful and funny comments, it got me reminiscing about the show....especially about Brian. So my question to all of you is...

What are your favorite sexiest/hottest Brian moments?

A few of mine would have to be:

Episode 203 - When Brian is screwing the cop in the back of the cop car/SUV. Seeing Brian in the police officer's hat wearing the police officer's sunglasses, running the club down the cop's back while he is handcuffed....phew!! Almost too much Brian hotness for me.

Any episode where Brian is holding Gus. Especially the episode where he falls asleep with Gus on his chest. Seeing him as a father and being so gentle with Gus makes him incredibly sexy.

Call me sick, but in episode 122, when Brian is "scarfing", wow....that's HOT.

And finally, episode 311, when Brian and Justin have sex on the floor of the loft. All I can say is, Brian (and Justin for that matter) in black briefs is a beautiful thing!

BJfic.net [Jun. 14th, 2006|02:09 pm]

spiritgirl316
I am relatively new here. However, as most of you may already know, BJfic.net has new owners. They have some new submission rules also, which kind a like. There OOC stories will not be accepted and main characters doing evil deeds (murder, rape, etc.) will not be excepted. I think it may be a step in good direction. Has anyone else noticed and what are your thoughts?

513 - Final Episode [Jun. 11th, 2006|01:44 pm]

cherrygurl31
I just gone done watching the final episode (513) of QAF for the first time. For the most part, I think I like how the series ended. But the way the series ended with Brian and Justin wasn't at all what I expected.

I just wanted to share my thoughts and see what you guys thought of this final episode.......

For the last few days, I've been reading a lot of BDSM fanfic. I think it started with [info]triciaqaf's stuff (which I love), but I'm not sure. Anyway, today I read a series by a woman who writes very well. Her Brian and Justin get into some pretty heavy stuff in the first series I read (set around 215) including Brian drawing blood and leaving Justin badly bruised. But it's done well and, in some respects, doesn't seem OTT. It made me wonder. What do you think?

Is the idea that Justin enjoys BDSM (other than the fact that it's a turn on) because it makes him feel possessed, and, thus, loved by Brian even to the point of wanting to be marked by him and refusing to use his safeword so that he can prove his love--is that idea one you can defend in canon, or is the whole concept fanon? I've read it so often, it makes me wonder.

Would Brian ever harm Justin as this woman suggested? In her story, it has a lot to do with his feelings about where the relationship is going and how he acts out on those feelings. Yes, they're fucking when this is happening, but it isn't simply about having fun--it subtexted. I don't remember if she talks about Brian's abusive childhood or not, but some stories do. Again, is that an idea you can defend in canon or is it pure fantasy? I always had the notion that Brian would never hurt Justin ... at least not physically. But I wonder if there are some instances in which that would not be true.

And before you ask, I know Justin isn't a delicate little flower. He can defend himself. But I think it is true in canon that his biggest vulnerability is his love for Brian, and that is what's inevitably used in these fics. He wants to explore with Brian, to learn, to draw closer, and he trusts Brian. Brian, on the other hand, is certainly a "dark" character, with hidden recesses and secrets, which makes a fic like the one I just mentioned seem plausible.

On perfect endings [Jun. 3rd, 2006|09:46 pm]

[mood | thoughtful]

Heya!

I'm relatively new, so have been lurking and reading all the threads - some really interesting discussions, that give so much food for thought. (This comm plus [info]qaf_retread - which btw I like as much as Justin likes dick - have turned me into a nocturnal being, THANKS ALOT. :P) I'm kind of on this crazy fanfic spree and I have to say there are so many great authors in this fandom, I'm becoming worried for my sanity. :X:X

/blabbering

So what I wanted to talk about is perfect fic endings (since CowLip denied us our ULTIMATE perfect ending ¬_¬). I personally find that the way a fic is finished can affect my entire opinion of it drastically. As much as I like a fic, if it has a rushed, sudden ending which feels disconnected from everything before I get v. v. argh-ish and ;____;. I treasure and love the perfect endings, which hit all the right spots and and leave me breathless, like my own Gandy babies.

Tell me 5 fic endings which worked like that for you, made you all 'OMG!!!!111' and 'AJSDKJGSDJKHSl.' Inquiring minds want to know. Also I may be able to get some recs out of this to feed my obsession so it can grow into a big fat bitch of an obsession. :D

Here are my 5, in no particular order. There shall be quoting and squeeing. )

Tears, Jerked and Otherwise [May. 24th, 2006|10:57 pm]

[Current Location |San Francisco]
[mood |weepy!]
[music |Marianne Faithful, As Tears Go By]

I was discussing with [info]jane2005 that I'm seriously considering not going beyond episode 510, because it's so wonderful and I'm really worried about the next three episodes. *is in denial*

I told her that I'm a fragile flower, and it's true. I am. And evidence of that is that this episode made me cry THREE TIMES. The first was when Brian was sitting in his car watching Justin on the street. *dies*

The second was in the chapel at the hospital when Brian is holding Deb's hand while she prays.

And the third, the end when Brian tells Justin , "I was so fucking scared... all I could think was, 'Please, don't let anything happen to him'." And then "I love you. I love you. I love you." *dies again only this time it's real*

Have you cried in any QAF episodes, I mean truly cried, not just misted over? If so, what episodes, what scenes?

And also, have you cried when reading a fanfic? If so, which one(s) made you weep? Remember, real tears only, not just a sad feeling where you wanted to crawl into the TV or computer and wrap somebody up in your arms and make it all better. Wet stuff coming out of the eyes, snotty nose.

I have to review my fanfic bookmarks to see where else I might have shed a tear (and I know there have been a few), but one I remember for certain is "Taken" by Ethan.

Brian and Lindsey [May. 23rd, 2006|04:50 pm]

intensefemme
Hi there Friends-

I got this idea from the last thread to talk about Brian and Lindsey.
I was pretty surprised to learn that some fans feel Lindsey was actually not a true friend to Brian.

I got that she loved him, both as friends and romatically- although that was for the most part supressed. I got that she was privy to Brians inner world of thoughts and feelings. I got that Brian really counted on her,

I'd really like to hear if you think Lindsey is really a bitch- and I somehow missed it. Maybe because I was too busy salivating, waiting for the next Brian and Justin scene.

Just joined this community... [May. 8th, 2006|05:21 pm]

spiritgirl316
I just joined this community, but I have been watching it for several weeks and I like the discussions.

Two of my favorite fics that unfortunately were never finished was 'Complications of the Mind' and 'Acknowledging Fears' by someone named emilya. I liked these stories because they were cannon from season 3. They used the cancer situation as a way to make Brian deal with his inner demons. Because Brian couldn't use his usual pain management mechanisms during his cancer (i.e. sex, drugs, alcohol), he was forced to deal with his feelings. It also explained some of the dynamics in Brian's biological family. There is a real angsty dynamic between him and Claire in which they both realize that they suffered at the hands of their parents. There seems to be the possibility of them forming some sort of relationship. Both Brian and Claire have to help John, Claire's son deal with a tramatic event, which forces Brian to deal with more baggage. Justin is the strong Justin that we all know and love and is there to support his partner. Brian realizes that he wants to fight for Gus. Yet through it all, they maintain that commitment is important but that marriage is not necessarily for them. While the anti-Michael piece may have been over the top at times, the story as a whole was believable and showed Justin and Brian really working on themselves as well as their relationship. I often wonder were Brian and Justin would have ended up if C/L had taken this route.

Has anyone ever read these fics? If so, what is your take on them? I would like to challenge some of you writers to take them on and finish them. The stories are on bjfic.net. If you click on authors, you will find them under emilya782003. Even though the series is not complete, I still find them to be great reads. 'Acknowledging Fears' comes before 'Complications of the Mind'.

Hi there!!

I have been enjoying reading the discussions.

I dont have S5 yet- waiting for it to be released in June. I slowly watch S1, and S2-
and have participated in some of the Marathons. I have not been able to do the Ethan marathon.
So, I just went to the Showtime site and watched all the clips for S5.
Oh my god, I got so sad again. It's crazy.
I mean, the fanfic keeps me going, but I miss the show so much!

Does anybody else? How do you stay positive?

Fanfiction Constructs [May. 3rd, 2006|09:58 pm]
roffle_katy
Hey everyone!

I'm not much of an LJ-er, so forgive me if this has already been discussed, but I thought it might be interesting to identify the fanfiction constructs in the QAF fandom. I'm referring to situations, characteristics, -isms, and etc. that have been propagated by fanfiction (good, bad and "bad") but do not seem to occur in the actual show.

Now, I may have only one story to my name because I'm really not a writer by nature, but I've read more fanfic than even *I* can believe. I'll start with the few that I can think of:

- Everyone at Babylon staring at Brian/Justin when they dance -- to me, it seems like they're all minding their own business. Yes, the crowd appears to part, but that's because they're filming...

- Everyone in the backroom staring at Brian and Justin -- again, people seem to be too busy with their own pleasures.

- "Auntie Em"

- Daphne in med-school --> I'm actually really not sure about this one, I can't remember if it was ever brought up in the show.

... and my mind clearly isn't working that well right now, because that's all I can think of. I know there are more. Can anyone identify some others? Discuss! :)

Components of a successful B/J relationship [May. 3rd, 2006|10:57 am]

besame_bj
[mood | contemplative]

At the end of S3 and somewhat into S4, we see Brian and Justin in a successful relationship although even then, there are things I don't understand, like why they didn't live together. But unlike the excellent fanfic I've read, like [info]jane2005's story Negation, we don't really get many clues as to what makes the relationship work. We know Justin told Brian "I understand what it is you want of me. And I know what I can expect from you." We know Brian missed Justin when he was with Ethan, that he went on loving him and showing that in his actions, that he did not like Ian, at all, that he finally succeeded in stopping Justin from leaving (in 308). Other than that, I'm not sure. So, my question is, what are the components of a successful B/J relationship? What has to happen? Who needs to do what? Does Brian have to do more talking, express his feelings even if he doesn't say "I love you"? Does Justin have to talk less? Does Justin have to stop being so impulsive? Stop leaving? Grow up more? Does Brian need to stop tricking/stop tricking as much? Does Justin need a job, more money, before he can live with Brian again? Do they have to be on a somewhat equal footing or is that ever possible in any relationship? Is a tragedy the only means of bringing them together within a relatively short timeframe? You get the drift. :-) And did any of this happen in S3 or even S4? (I haven't seen S5, but from what I know, it doesn't seem very helpful on the subject because I'm not sure the characters in S5 were Brian and Justin. And that extends, probably, to late S4.)

What's your opinion? How would you write them coming together as a couple?

sharing showers [May. 2nd, 2006|03:59 pm]

[music |Rain - Madonna]

So I've been thinking a lot lately about Brian and Justin and them sharing showers.
Actually, I woke up with a story in my head the other night and this seems to be taking a bit of my free mind time. Not the least of which is taking me away from writing Turbulence that I have 2 chapters overdue now.

So, my question is, does/did Brian share showers with other lovers tricks before Justin?

Thoughts?

Would there have been opportunity? (Brian does seem to throw them out if they end up spending the night.

And there is that scene in 302 where the trick asks to use the shower and Brian refuses to let him...

Repost with summary this time!

Taking the advice of [info]_alicesprings, I thought I'd post this here!

For everyone who has been asking lately about the B/J/*cough*/M story When Friendship Hurts, I could use some feedback on plot ideas. I haven't forgotten it, believe me. I have attempted to continue it many, many times and I am getting nowhere!

What I'd like are ideas on how you would like to see things play out. Of course, the obvious... Brian and Justin together. That goes without saying. But as we last left the boys, they are definitely not on the road to happily ever after. What happens to turn things around? Does anyone help? How long does it take? Weeks, months, years? A chance meeting somewhere down the road? Or are they doomed to be miserable forever? Details, people! I need details!!! Ideas? Something? This has been bugging the hell out of me! I hit a brick wall and every scenario I came up with sounds completely wrong. I'll take any advice you can give!

Thank you!

Brief story summary here )

I Can't Help Wondering . . . [Apr. 17th, 2006|03:55 am]

azureopal
If people have totally forgotten that Brian and Justin aren't real. I know people get really invested in the stories, and that some are so well-written that the characters seem real, but sometimes I think there's a massive disconnect between fiction and reality.

I wrote this little fic thing that briefly makes fun of mpreg and has Brian threatening to sue Justin and Mikey if they write an mpreg storyline for Rage. And I got a review in which the person said, "Brian suing us?! LOL. Omg that shit is too funny." Cause, yeah . . . I get sued by fictional characters every day. Holden Caulfield's coming after me next for plagiarism and I'm sure he'll be all, "You plagiarized me! I'm the only angsty teenage male in the history of the universe!" And then I'll have to explain to my lawyer, who will be laughing at me, that yes, I live in fear of non-existent people. Blah.
