Pythonism
The MP Community For Devoted Fans
About:

Welcome to Pythonism, the new LJ community for true Python fanatics and devotees! Here, all are welcomed to come and 'worship' that which is Monty Python, and the Pythons themselves!

We might be considered an 'ultimate fan' group, because we are a little more serious about Python than some, serious meaning more intellectual and utterly devoted to all that which is truly Python. This is also a good place for those who wish to become ultimate, Pythonesque fans, as one of our goals is to 'educate' others about Python, to share and expand the love for the 'ole boys and the wonderful comedy they have bestowed upon our lives. But by all means- you have been warned- we may tend to get very silly!

You might be asking yourself, though, why we are called Pythonism. It mainly comes from a conversation I had with Peter Crabbe (Rutles 2, close friend of Eric Idle's) and Kim Howard Johnson (a definite Python expert, and close friend of theirs) that went something like this:

Kim: You know, we should start a Python religion...
Peter: Yes! You can be the pope, I'll be the archbishop...
Me: And I will build the church and go every day!

Eric Idle and John Cleese both have also joked about how Python could so easily be a religion, due to its enormous cult numbers. So it's only fitting that this community be named Pythonism- where we worship all that is Python!

However, we do have some simple guidelines to make sure that this community flows along smoothly and runs the way it should. The main reason I created this place was out of my growing dislike towards a once fantastic community, [info]montypython. So, to prevent this community from veering away the same way they did, the following rules below will be enforced.

What We Allow:

~ Icons
~ Colorbars
~ Banners
~ Buttons/Avatars, etc.
~ Pictures
~ Fanfiction
~ News (Please make sure your news is fresh and has not already been posted on the community before!)
~ Stories Of Significant Events (For example, if you just got to meet Terry Jones at a booksigning.)
~ Facts, Information, etc. (Again, please make sure it is not 'old news' and hasn't been posted previously! ;))
~ Discussions

What We Don't Allow:

~ Double-posting. If something has already been put on here once, there's no need to do it again. I can understand if someone is new here and makes a mistake and accidentally posts something that has already been put on here, but please try and make sure first if there's doubt.

~ Quote-posts. Do not simply post with a quote or a series of quotes for then other people to quote off of as well. So say, don't post with: "Can we have your liver?" Now, if you've written a different sort of post and it has a quote in there, that's perfectly OK.

~ Non-Python posts. This is a Monty Python community, so really, think logically- post about Monty Python. A post about "Oh I think Eddie Izzard should be the seventh Python" does not belong here, despite the fact he might tie into Python. Tie-ins are much different than actual Python, and belong elsewhere.

~ Advertisements. We are not your billboard. However, if you have a link to something that's Python-related, that's fine. :) But anything else, please, not here, ok?

~ Non-Python Items Relating To One Or More Of The Pythons. That sounds a little confusing, but to put it more simplistically, in other words, it is saying 'Don't post about A Fish Called Wanda.' Something may involve a Python, or two, or three, but unless it directly ties in with Python, it does not belong here. However, some things may be permittied. For example, A Concert For George contains only four of the six Pythons, but they represented Python for George and performed Python material. A no-no example is posting about Michael Palin being on a new travel show. So just use good judgement if you intend to post about something in this category. (EXCEPTIONS: Posting about a Python being on an upcoming interview, or doing some sort of public event, etc., is welcomed.)

What's In-Between And Questionable:

~ Introductory posts. One of the few evils of the old [info]montypython community is that it is overrun by introductory posts. Now, I can see why someone might like to introduce themself- why not? However, if you do decide to do this, I have one request: make it interesting! Post some pictures, telling some cool facts about you, tie yourself in with Python, tell us if you've ever met one of the Pythons, etc. etc. Please, DO NOT simply be, "Hi. I'm Amelia. I'm sixteen and am in Idaho. I love Monty Python."

~ 'Python Moments'. More often than not, Python moments are mixed up with what is annoyingly common, so-called moments, or everyday things that hold little meaning whatsoever and can be very irritating and, dare I say?, stupid. Python moments WILL be allowed- so-called will NOT. But how to define and draw a line between the two? Here are some good examples:

So-called: You see a coconut in Walmart.
Python Moment: You see someone banging two halves of a coconut together and prancing through Walmart.

So-called: You write a letter to John Cleese.
Python Moment: John Cleese writes you back with a reply.

So-called: You go to a sciene museum and are reminded of the Galaxy Song.
Python Moment: You go to a science museum and they are showing a movie clip of the Galaxy Song.

Etc. etc. Do you see the difference? Basically, a Python moment is defined as anything out of the ordinary, something interesting, quirky, truly Pythonesque.
