A bunch of us from www.friendsofMDRF.org will be getting together at our house for some fun then at 3pm we're heading down to the DE State Fair to see an MDRF favorite HILBY perform three shows. A lot of us want to go in kilts. . . I might just do the Lederhösen thing just to be hot and sticky in the 96+ degree heat. . . take about yer basic crotch-pot-cooking.

I hope they serve cheese.

Anyway, after the shows, Hilby's heading back with us to party all night at the house and it should be a real hoot! I've got some video of MDRF shows dating back to 2001, so we're going to turn back the hands of time for a bit.

It'll be a great way to get in the spirit of festival as it's just a bit over 30 days away. We've got a whole new set of folks who'll be heading out to MDRF this year. . . I bought a few season passes for friends of mine in MD who fell in love with the festival last year. A whole new flock of folks to enjoy MDRF in a whole new way. A change of face, blood and friendship are always good as MDRF evolves like it should.

Huzzzzahhhhh!

That ship has sailed... [Jul. 17th, 2008|02:01 pm]

I take it back. I think I know why my mind is elsewhere today. Reading these Han/Leia stories and all the hope and happiness they have or will have in their relationship reminds me a lot of what I lost years ago. I think part of me has given up on the idea that I'll ever find quite that level of joy within a relationship again. While I've managed to bury it a way for years now, the longing never went away. I think it's flooding back in a rush now along with all this newly revived creativity and the new material I'm reading and writing. It's reminding me again of what I'm missing, and what I'm afraid I'll never find again. It's obvious now after all these years that he wasn't my soulmate (if there's really such a thing), but some part of me still believes he really was and he threw it away.

Unrelated but just as upsetting is the news I got last night from home. My first impression of my brothers wife/exwife was not good--she was a bit of a cold fish, distant and sharp even with him. I never understood why he was with her in the first place. She was cheating on him already within the first year of their marriage (if not sooner) and demanded a divorce shortly afterward. She abandoned them for a month to run off with her lover and get a tramp stamp on her ass, leaving my brother to handle their 1-year-old on his own. Yadda yadda. Skip ahead eight years to now. She'd been dragging out a court battle for over a year now because my brother and several different doctors want to treat my niece for ADD but she won't hear of it--she claims there are no behavioral difficulties (never mind she regularly dumps her daughter off with my folks whenever the girl acts up). Well, her latest move now, because she was going to finally lose the battle, is to annouce she's going to fight for 100% custody. There's so much more to this horrible story of her Jerry-Springer-family and their regular ploys to manipulate this poor girl and force her to choose between families. The fact that there's a police record on this bitch because she threatened to shoot my brother, not to mention multiple other insane things, doesn't belay the threat that because she's the biological mother most courts will side in her favor. If this happens, it will devastate my family emotionally, not to mention drive my brother further into debt from never-ending lawyer fees.

Now I'm sitting here at work tearing up and furious at the same time. WTF?

Okay, you folks KNOW I don't usually emote like this. It's just my mood today. I'll return you to our regularly scheduled program...

Wandering about... [Jul. 17th, 2008|01:16 pm]

I don't know why, but I'm having an incredibly difficult time concentrating on work today. I just have so many thoughts and feeling going through my head, none of them having to do with work. I don't know if it's because I had to get up so much earlier than normal or if it's something else. I've been reading a series of stories from someone and they're just so good that it's got my brain churning. Maybe that's it.

What'd I tell you? Now that I've got the urge to write again, suddenly I'm inundated with other projects. Aside from wanting to revamp my You Could Use a Good Kiss website, I'm beginning to receive story contributions that need to be read and edited; I'm reaching out online trying to find new and old artists (with little luck so far); I'm working a lot more overtime (money is much needed to pay off the pending laptop); I'm still hoping to get a few other things done before I go on vacation at the end of August; and to top it off, I started a new story last night, what will probably end up being my attempt at the trip-to-Bespin story (long overdue). Haven't been this busy in ages. When it rains, it pours.

Ren & Stimpy 'Lost Episodes'
These aint no lost episodes, they are 'grown up party' episodes. Gone are any pretenses that this was a show intended for kids. Sure, it premiered on Nickelodeon, but it quidckly moved to MTV when Stimpy gave birth to a FART named 'STINKY'.

HELLBOY II
The new manager of the BPRD (Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense) is played by the voice of Stewie from FAMILY GUY.

I HAVE been listening to some Mozart lately, but mostly, rotting my brain with this other garbage.

So the Soothesayers may yet play at Whiteaker Block Party, the 2nd weekend in August. Stay Tuned, Faithful Readers!

Hi, everyone:

I have some new goods in store for you:

ACEO stands for 'art cards, editions & originals.' Art cards are dated back to the 16th century when artists created miniature portraits which were used as wallet photos. The resurgence of art cards today are increasing in popularity, meant for both the serious and casual collector. The size is 2.5x3.5" and it fits into a standard trading card sleeve. Original ACEOs would be a lovely addition to your art card collection or to frame and hang in your home. Your original ACEO arrives in a clear acid-free semi-rigid plastic sleeve. On auction as follows:

'Flapper Girl Marian' original ACEO

'Flapper Girl Rita' original ACEO

'Victorian Madam Jossie' original ACEO

Added to the Ebay shop:

'Victorian Madam Margaret' original ACEO

'Flapper Girl Pearl' original ACEO

'Victorian Madam Jane' original ACEO

'Ghost by Lantern Light' original ACEO

'Halloween Bravery' original ACEO

Also up for auction:

'The Secret World of Faeries & Birds' lettered version chapbook with an original sketch on the inside title page. This one is 'K' of the lettered edition of 26.

NEXT CHAPBOOK: 'Scary Little Faeries', my next limited-edition chapbook, will be ready for pre-order by the end of this month.

TAROT: It's now in the process of being proofed, then printed (long process!), and the release will be somewhere around October. Thank you for being so patient; I'm certain you'll find it worth the wait!

I'm in pain today.

Years ago I used to have a lot of problems with my jaw popping out of point on the right side. Sometimes if I tried to take a bite of something too thick or just from yawning too wide. While at the dentist, I have to actually shift my jaw slightly before I can open wide enough for them (they find it fascinating and ask me to do it over and over again!). One time I popped it out while trying to put on a sweater with a tight neck--go figure! Sometimes it would take days to pop back into place, during which time I couldn't close all the way down nor open all the way up.

Anyway, it's been years since I've really managed to hurt myself, but somehow this morning I did. The jaw's back in place, as far as I can tell, but it aches bad enough that I'm having trouble eating lunch. God this body sucks! I'm ready to trade it in already.

Anyway, it sucks that I worked 8 hours of overtime last week but won't get time-and-half for any of it because we had a holiday week. Blah! Hopefully I'll make up for it this week since I've already got in 6 hours from this past weekend.

I got things done, but not what I'd planned [Jul. 13th, 2008|03:39 pm]

suehypno
Bad news:

In expectation of doing my laundry today, I striped the bed and hauled everything into the laundry room down the hall (I'm in a hig-rise condo without individual laundry machines). I start up the two machines with all my darks. My card is nearly empty so I get some cash and go down to the lobby to charge the card up...and the machine is broken! Or to be more accurate, some idiot broke off their card inside. (How I have no clue as it automatically ejects them halfway out.) So not only can I not finish my laundry by doing my whites, but I barely have enough to dry what I've already started. I avoided having to load it all up in the car and drive to a laundrymat by $1.23. Ugh.

Because of work/work and shopping for a laptop and other things, plus doing some cleaning around the house (long ignored while I was writing), I've got nothing done on my website. ::sigh:: Part of that is because I just don't feel like going in there to work on the desktop right now. I'm debating if I want to load my copy of Dreamweaver 8 onto my work laptop so I can work from this...

Good news:

I just saved $50 by buying my copy of Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007 at Best Buy this morning when it went on sale, rather than as part of the build being done by Dell on my new laptop. It's normally $150 but I saw it in the flyer yesteday when I was still shopping around for laptops and realized I could take advantage of it.

I also bought a nice laptop backpack in preparation for the arrival of the Precious. Again, I saved $10 by pricing them online first and discovering that Micro Center carried the one I wanted for $10 cheaper than Best Buy. I really liked this one, too, because of it's smart and convenient design, but I find the standard messenger bags give me neckaches, even from just going between work and home. Since I'd be using this for traveling in airports, etc., I wanted something totally comfortable. I tried on a number of backpacks and this one FELT the best.

Tomorrow or Tuesday they're going to repair my broken window crank. Parts had to be ordered and it took a while but they're in now. Wooot! Thank GOD I don't have to have the entire window replaced!

It is done [Jul. 12th, 2008|02:14 pm]

suehypno
Well, I've gone ahead and ordered my new Precious.

I managed to get it in under $2,000 (although I still need to buy Microsoft Office and a backpack). In total, though, I saved over $800 through company discount and other discounts today, and still got something pretty close to cutting-edge. Oh, and for the first year there's no interest since I'm putting it on my Dell account for the time being. If there's still any remaining balance in a year (there shouldn't be!), I'll switch it to my normal Visa with only 9% interest. I even got free shipping. Not too bad!

Oh, and she shall be BLUE!

::sigh:: She's not expected to arrive until sometime around August 12. This is definitely a disadvantage to just walking into a store and walking out with it. ::taps fingertips on desk::

Workin' for the man [Jul. 12th, 2008|11:49 am]

suehypno
Well, I'm at work again on the weekend. I was given a 141 page Powerpoint to totally revamp in our new branding. It's going to take a chunk of time and they said I could do it over the weekend if I wanted to get some overtime pay--which I do! Also, there's word of some big transcription work coming. I loathe doing transcriptions...but it's an enormous chunck of time that I could earn in the evenings/weekend. Hell, it could potentially pay off half the laptop in one swoop. ::crosses fingers::

As it stands, I've decided I'm probaby going to order the Dell today or tomorrow. While it costs a bit more, I'm just more comfortable with the product and reputation. I've "built" two different models at the Dell site so I can compare. Right now it's a toss-up between the XPS model and the new Studio 17 model. Price-wise they tally up the same, but the Studio one is 17" with keypad, a built-in webcam, but a slower processor. The other drawback is the size and weight, plus I'd have to buy a bigger and heavier case for it.

Best Buy has Microsoft Office Home & Student going on sale tomorrow for $99, so I'm going to save $50 that way by buying it seperate, too.

Any opinions?
