    *Finally* some Faire photos
A few months back I intended to post (with permission, of course) some photos of the Pyrates from the MD Renaissance Festival, but when I was experiencing DSL issues, that plan ended up the back burner. Since I really do need to need to organize my digital life, I got off of my butt and without further ado, here they are:

Here's Skivee entertaining the crowd. Isn't he lover-ly folks?

Official Partial Retraction of Pyrates Royale News and Notes
It now appears that little to none of the information about the MDRF moving to Gettysburg is correct; and it may well have just been some kind of misunderstanding. Where we heard,” The Md. Fair is going to move to Gettysburg next year”, what was actually said was, ”The National Park Service will be refurbishing Eisenhower’s Gettysburg retirement cottage and updating the electric map of the battle next year.”

Please stop calling and e-mailing the office to check for more details. This would take valuable time away from the construction of the torture devices they are building to use on us. If you have cut and pasted to other websites, please retract your posts.

We are terribly embarrassed. We pride ourselves on my journalistic standards. A quick scan back at previous PR Spring Notes will attest to a very consistent level of accuracy; but even we can be mislead by well-meaning speculation.
That being said, all of the other information in the release is pretty-much 100% guaranteed.

    SPEAKING OF THE CRUISE...

Prices have been reduced YET AGAIN!!! I just got the word from our fearless travel agent:
The prices have again reduced and we keep the onboard credit. People have until February to get the reduced rate with onboard credit. If you have deposited, then I have reduced the rate. The current inside is now $1200 per person and Ocean view is $1400 per person.

For anyone just coming to the party, we're talking about our second cruise to exotic lands. This time we're going to Bermuda -- we leave the Baltimore Harbor on July 19, 2009 aboard The NCL Majesty, and spending three days and nights in Bermuda. Special features include private concerts and shows with the band.

    Cruise Prices reduced
I chatted with our travel agent a few days ago and he tells me that NCL has further reduced rates for our week long 2009 Bermuda cruise.
Current rates based on double occupancy are $1400 for an inside cabin, with a $25 ship purchase credit per passenger, and $1600 with a $50 ship purchase credit per passenger.
We are encouraging folks to get cabins early so that the cruise line doesn't reallocate them to other groups, since the boat is selling out quickly.

This Just In: Extended Hours at MDRF Sept. 6 & 7!
MDRF WILL BE OPEN UNTIL 8PM on Sept. 6 & 7, also known as Weekend the Third, Irish Weekend.

Pub Sing will still be from 6pm - 7pm, and all of the regularly-scheduled shows will go on as scheduled. There will be irish bands (Johnny Jump Up, Keltish) and other acts (The Interpreters) performing after Pub Sing ends, so, obviously no cannon at 7pm!

Scheduling is still being finalized. Check rennfest.com for the latest performance schedule.

An Announcement and Inquiry from the Pyrates Royale
Many of you know that we hosted a cruise last year to the Western Caribbean for about 60 of our closest friends.
We are giving serous consideration to repeating our mistake in July of 2009. Our unsuspecting destination this time is:
    BERMUDA

We are edging towards a Norwegian Cruise Line ship that would spend 3 days and nights at the island; allowing for some real sightseeing, nightlife enjoying and beach recreationifiying..
We are told that the weather there is pleasant, even in summer, and the beaches are dreamy.
We will be offering exclusive concerts to our fans, a cocktail party, formal and informal group dining. Other diversions could include, a mass shanty sing, an Irish music session, an astronomy lecture with late night stargazing, a new murder party, There is some chat about an informal pirate film festival. The captain may offer a history of British Pubs, weights and measures.
The current cruise dates are the 19th through the 26th of July, 2009.
We expect that the switch to Norwegian CL will give us a better quality cruise than last year.
Peak time sailing date, fuel surcharge, and a step up in quality will result in a cost that is at least 50% more than the last cruise; but we will be leaving from Baltimore, so most of you will not need to pay for airfare. In balance this should mean that the increase is effectively not as great as it might have been.
Our travel agent suggests that you can pay in installments over the coming year so that the cost is easier on your budget.
We ask that you send your contact info and comments to: skivee3@AOL.com so that we can gauge your interest and tailor our programs. Your initial contact info will only be shared with our travel agent. (Of course, the cruise line will be contacting you after you sign up.)
If this all sounds interesting, please contact us ASAP so we can dazzle the cruise line with hordes of cheering minions…and thank you for your support!

[Happy April Fool's Day!] Pyrates Royale Announce Major Changes.
Disclaimer: This was an April Fool's joke written by [info]skivee. (and lightly edited by yours truly) Enjoy the foolishness!
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The popular folk music group the Pyrates Royale is making two changes to the organization's public face. The band name, which has been used in its current form since 1992, will now be spelled Pirates Royal. This change reflects the fact that fans and media outlets have consistently had difficulty using the "y" and the "e." The older spelling may be still seen for a time as the head office still has a fair amount of pre-printed letterhead to go through.

The group has decided to augment its performances with the addition of two baton twirlers. This decision was made to try to appeal to a younger audience. The twirlers' sequined outfits will also add a bit of flash.

The new members, Cindy Merkler and Bob Trample, have extensive experience in combining the beauty of baton twirling with the shanty-singing mileau. The duo did baton work for The Boarding Party during the last five years of that group's existence. They also performed a 15-minute routine on Good Morning America in 1989 to commemorate the death of Stan Hugill. (Hugill would not actually die until May of 1992, but he sent a personal note thanking them.) The Pirates Royal is very pleased to add them to its lineup.

The band will be refered to as Pirates Royal Plus Two in all future performances that include the twirlers.
