Do you have any good resources online that you have found to help you learn how to play the Uke? I have always had love in my heart for all stringed instruments and nothing would please me more than to be able to conquer my impatience and fear of failure, to persevere and master just one instrument. I have a Purple Fluke and it's beautiful and lovely and it should be making music. I am at the moment trapped in a very small town with very limited resources so I will not be able to take lessons more than likely. I do have the summer off however and I am determined to do something with this time.
Any ideas and help would be great, we are currently looking for new jobs and a relocation and as soon as I get to a city with more than just a Safeway, I will look for lessons but until then I want to at least feel like I am moving in the right direction.

Tips? Tricks? Websites?

Thanks guys!

Flea UKE review

Got my flea uke, and yes it is really easy to play---nice size fret board (good width for my hand) and the Aquila strings although nylon are pretty good. I have a Stagg Mahogony uke (also not pricey) and really it does produce a nicer sound and feel, but is a little harder to play. So I am not sure--I think the flea is a great cart around uke---it does seem "cheap" in construction but plays pretty well and the sound ain't bad.

Buying Uke

When I was younger, I lived in Hawaii and part of the curriculum of my school was learning how to play the uke. We learned a few basics, such as strumming and a few chords (c, g7, d are what I remember). Recently, I was stuck with the thought of maybe learning to play the ukulele again.

I was thinking maybe the Applause UA10.
(http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Applause-UA10-Mini-Ukulele-?sku=516718)

I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a different one, or an opinion on the UA10.

Anywhere around 100 is my budget.
Thanks.

But in a moment of brightness decided that I would try and get more 'me' in the frame and turned the camera phone.

Bright?Er, well not really as thanks to the format it's in (MPEG-4 Movie Quicktime) I can't now edit by turning it the right way round! I don't really want to do it again as it is the third attempt and i quite like the playing!
I have tried using stuff on my computer (vid editors and the like) I tried using Windows movie Player but they either won't do it or simply won't open the file...

So lie down and enjoy! And while you're there, let me know if you have any good free downloads that I can use to convert the file and then edit it? Woncha? please!

<lj-embed id="7" />
This feels a bit sacriligious and also hypocritical putting this post up!

But in the spirit of broad mindedness.

I own a Banjo uke that I was fortunate enough to be given. I was all excited at first as it turned out to be 1930's John Grey and when the 'ker-ching' sound in my head had worn off I discovered that it weren't worth an awful lot!

Then the guilt hit and I felt bad! So lately I've been trying to give it a go.

It doesn't play easily and it does sound better with a proper Uke thin plectrum (from this jolly nice fella) which is also usually against my religion (but having seen the UOGB recently where nearly the whole troup used them, my ideas are slightly changed.) I've put some cheap and cheerful strings on (again, very nice man here...) and it's in working order, kinda.

Anyroad, take a look if you like and let me know. The piece isn't up to much but sounds appropriate..

<lj-embed id="8" />

Hello,

I think someone was asking about the Colorado Ukulele Festival. If you go to http://www.swallowhill.com/ , you can find out more about it. I will be there with The Denver Ukulele Orchestra and also with my banjo company Bean Sprout http://www.thebeansprout.com. So stop by and introduce yourself.

Heidi

Strings in tune perfectly, then chords well outta tune! Embarrasingly so. The Vintage Electro Concert was so bad we had to give up with it. But listening back to the first takes with the Jenny I'm not sure it was much better. Aquila strings as well...

Anyone know a good luther in the West Mids, UK?!!?
No? Me neither...

*sigh*
