Buying Uke
When I was younger, I lived in Hawaii and part of the curriculum of my school was learning how to play the uke. We learned a few basics, such as strumming and a few chords (c, g7, d are what I remember). Recently, I was stuck with the thought of maybe learning to play the ukulele again.

I was thinking maybe the Applause UA10.

I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a different one, or an opinion on the UA10.

Anywhere around 100 is my budget.
Thanks.

I know your budget is around 100 bucks... but I'd recommend buying a Flea from fleamarketmusic.com . It's about 89 dollars more, but sooo worth it. I love my fleas. They are fun to look at, fun to play and the people who run the place are top notch people in general.

So in a nutshell... Spend a bit more and save yourself having to buy a playable uke in about 6 months when you really will see improvement.

I agree that spending a bit more is worth it. IMO those under $150 are literally no better than toys. Even if you have to wait and save up you'll be happier. : )

The applause is a good one. I know several people who are quite happy with that uke. The only thing that would bother me is getting it from Musicians Friend. (with friends like these...)
Check out Musicguymic on eBay, http://stores.ebay.com/Musicguymics-Room
Search his new ukes by price and you'll probably find the Kala ukes. Pretty nice for a hundred dollar uke. Plus Mike is a very reputable dealer.

Hokay...as always good advice alround here.

I would agree that the fluke is a great uke but sometimes you just don't have that extra budget...I hear that!

I like the electric Applause Uke - its got a great sound and stays in tune.
I hear great things about musicguymike and only wish I was in the states...sometimes!

I will echo some extremely difficult advice to take though....

I will shortly be selling up every ukulele I own (a lot! I'll let you all know!) to buy 'the one.' That is, the one that plays in tune sounds great and can fit right in with my guitar playing friends Live. At the moment none of my, must be said 'ok' ukes, can do all this.
There's always gonna be that 'extra bit' to spend to get that extra bit of ukulele...

Good luck and either way, no judgements, let us know what you settle on?

Take care..
