Ooops
Has anyone had any luck with blocking a Polyamid/Tactel Nylon eyelash yarn? The scarf I'm working on is a bit uneven at one point. I didn't learn about blocking til a few days ago, and about a day ago I learned that you weren't supposed to block non-organic yarns. I'm pretty new to knitting and I guess that I should've tried out a few different yarns before using this stuff. I'd like to fix the unevenness without unraveling the piece.

You can always try blocking it anyway. Because it's synthetic fiber, it probably won't work, but you never know. Stitch n' Bitch has some good techniques for partially unravelling things without having to completely start over. Depending on how wide it is, you could always finish it then fold it in half lengthwise and sew up the side. I've seen quite a few eyelash scarves made that way. Then you can just sew it so the uneven part doesn't show. If it's a scarf though, the uneven part probably won't even show when you're wearing it, so I wouldn't worry. Plus it's eyelash stuff, so that probably masks some of it anyway!

it's not that you're not supposed to block non-organic yarns, it's that the method of blocking is different (and the results may or may not be the same).

Washing and/or tugging a piece into shape will still help even out the stitches, even if the shape you tug it into won't so much stay put.

Basically, the key to synthetic fibers is no heat. Wet block by washing then drying flat in shape, or mist lightly and tug gently to get the sitches more situated.

Ditto

I don't really think of it as blocking so much as evening things out, flattening, etc etc. It won't hold an actual shape if thats what you're going for but it will even things out a lot.
