[info]pumpkin_man: I just don't get it (Punisher: War Zone Comments and Blogs)

I don't understand most of these people on the net who claim to be Punisher fans and they say they were not happy with Punisher: War Zone. "Oh this was wrong, this was wrong, blah blah blah, the directing sucked, the cast was no good" and all I wanna say to alot of them is: "Then you aren't really a Punisher fan. If you've read the MAX series, then you'd know the movie stayed as accurate as possible to the source. (Except of course, making Frank a Special Forces instructor instead of a Vietnam Vet, which is understandable, to make him younger for our times.) You're never gonna find a more believable Frank Castle than Ray Stevenson, I mean, the guy played Frank perfectly.

Then there are people bitching about Lonny Bin Jim. "Why was he even in the movie? I hated his character in the comics." First off, I laughed at this comment because this guy claimed to be a "huge punisher collecter and fan" but didn't even know that LBJ WAS NEVER IN THE COMICS! He was created for the movie. So was that guy just full of shit or what?

The thing is, Punisher:War Zone banked in only about 10 million worldwide in the box office, which we all know is not good. And I'm sure I'm not the only one here who really wanted this movie to do well. (Sequels!! Next villian up to bat, BARRACUDA! Played by...Tommy Tiny Lister maybe?) Lionsgate is partially to blame I suppose. They did nothing to correct all the bad rumors about the script being really bad in the beginning of PWZ's public announcement. (And for all the people bitching about "Tom Jane getting kicked from Punisher 2" please shut up! He wasn't kicked, he quit and said he didn't want to do it. Because the only reason he isn't The Punisher anymore is because he DIDN'T WANT TO BE.

Sorry. This is a bit of a rant. But I truly hope that Punisher: War Zone sees a sequel, because I think it deserves one. Ray Stevenson has expressed desire to play Frank again, so we have oppurtunity here to make this happen! I want my goddamn Punisher film trilogy! :p

If any of you find any info on this, don't hesitate to post it up here. For now, here is a recent interview done with Ray Stevenson.

[info]evilgrins: much better than I expected it to be

11:32 PM 4/3/09 · When I initially saw the trailers for Punisher: War Zone I was less than pleased. Looked like a great action flic but it didn't seem to sit well with my image of the Punisher. Then again, my knowledge of the character stems from his older stuff to close to the present...

...but I'm largely in the dark about the MAX series.

Figures this film is based more from that then what I know.

Part of the reason I rented this wasn't so much just because I wanted to see it as the fact that after all the hype before it came out I was kinda surprised that I haven't seen one posting about how Punisher: War Zone was after the fact. Could've just missed them but regardless, wanted to make sure there was at least one no matter what I thought of it.

Analysis & whatnot )

Kinda fuzzy how I feel about this being a Punisher film but it's definitely worth watching.

[info]pumpkin_man: Ray Stevenson Collider.com Interview

Interviewer: We talked about the canon of the Punisher so there is a lot of room possibly for a sequel. If it happened, how willing would you be to reprise your role as Frank Castle, the Punisher?

Ray: I would have to be thrilled because I think we went places in there. We gave the fans exactly what I think they deserved, they deserved the MAX series on screen. We did that, we drew directly from the lexicon of the MAX series itself. I think there’s a huge potential because he doesn’t shy away from these real moral issues. He’s not judge, jury, and executioner, he’s just executioner. I think there are a tremendous amount of places that Frank can go and we can raise these issues up and play them out on the screen. I think there’s a major potential future for Frank. There’s a future definitely for that skull. I think it is one of the most potent and identifiable logos ever around. I’m sick to death of skull and crossbones. It’s about time to get a Punisher skull emblazoned across the world.

Interviewer: There ya go.

Ray: Yeah definitely. Get this, I was on a plane once and I was watching an episode of the Simpsons and Bart is getting in with some of the rougher, older boys at the school. Three ne’er do well lads with beanies and long hair and one of them is wearing a black t-shirt with a kind of cartoony white skull on the black shirt and I went “Oh my word! The Punisher’s in the Simpsons!” I just have a strong affinity for this character and there is a tremendous potential for where it can go and what issues he can actually raise up and entertain. I think there is great entertainment to be had there.

[info]evilgrins: first time encounters

9:12 PM 11/13/08 · Roundabout the time the Punisher & Captain America limited series came out I learned that wasn't the first time they crossed paths. Somewhere around the early 1980's the Punisher popped up in an issues of Captain America. I've never seen the issue, all I know is there's a "50" in the issue number, and haven't got a clue what went down.

Any ideas?
