I was bored today so I went to the dark side
Darth Maul is cooler then he looks but you know how difficult it can be to photograph the entire carving on a not so flat surface.
I'm so glad I stocked up on Funkins after Halloween to get me through. |

Hey guys! Just wanted to say "hi," offer up a little remembrance of Hallowe'en, and see what folks think about a new piece I just put up for folks' perusal. (I've tried to sell my work before, but never w/much success, so I figgered I'd see how kindred spirits felt about the work, to gauge if there's even a market for such stuffs.)
It's a little ghosty, who's still hoping to get a bit of trick-or-treating done, and he's got playful wee pumpkin before him. :) It's called "Everyone Loves Hallowe'en." :)

I have two little girls who have never seen, smelt, felt, walked in, or jumped in autumn leaves.
Will you send them some?
If you want, I'll send you something back beachy. If you want, I can also pay shipping via paypal. Or if you want, you can just send them. I hope to get some big bags to take my my girls' school so they cam all play with them at recess. Isn't that a good idea?
I miss the fall!
And to show that I'm doing good things to, today I joined the sea turtle conservancy here on the island. Right now just data entry and autopsies, but later, we'll look for nests, incubate the eggs, and let them go after they hatch,. Last year they let 10,000 paddle their way to teh sea from Texas alone!

| Geek themed Pumpkin contest |

I submitted the two Geek pumpkins which I still have in my possession, Black Cat & Captain America to a contest. I give most of my carvings as gifts or prizes so I don't have them on hand to take additional photographs following guidelines. So with my two beloved pumpkins, I entered the Girls Entertainment Network Geek Carving Contest and won!
Since I know the Girls of GEN are into cosplaying Black Cat, I had a feeling that particular carving would go over well. I won a prize pack from Top Cow and some goodies from GEN; don't know what they are yet but I'm squeeeeing like a complete dorkfish!

My other pumpkin-- Lab Rats playing in Lab equipment. It was really tough to carve seeing as the pumpkin was REALLY pulpy about a half-inch beneath the shell and kept peeling off. It was VERY hard to work with it. Eventually, I gave up and left everything pretty thick.... which didn't bode well for lighting. Oh, well.

| Light syncing success! |

This year I took 12 of my pumpkins and hooked them up to one of those Christmas light display things. I used an MP3 player to sync Halloween music in instead of Christmas music. I had about 12 Halloween songs looping all night with the pumpkins flashing to the music. If you were on the fence about investing in one I have to say it was well worth the $88 I spent. I can use it again for Christmas so really it's only $44 per holiday and you can use it for many years.

I had to take video of this year's jack-o-lantern because it ended up being so wide and tall that it wrapped around the pumpkin (horizontally AND vertically) more than a single still image could reasonably show:
Last year's Lurch (from The Addams Family) jack-o-lantern is regrettably lost to the annals of unrecorded history. Two years ago's jack-o-lantern lives on in this LJ userpic of mine:
The good Mayor took me a solid 3 hours or so to do (that lettering was a real chore and my hand hurts now).

I finally caved and took the day off of work to find time to carve. (I was busy putting together a "spooky house".) So far, I've only carved one of two. I'll be doing the second one tonight... I'll post my fave photo, then put a couple others under a cut.
This one took me about 4 hours to carve... give or take. I started at 1pm and finished before 5pm. I used wood carving tools and pumpkin master sculpting tools, knives, and poker. I actually spent more time this week trying to think of what to carve than actually carving once I decided. I'm just glad I decided.
... and, for the first time ever, I've finally won a carving contest! Yay! ^_^

| Stargate pattern? |

Here's a real long-shot.
I just found out that the "Ghost Hunters" series is filming live a couple of miles from here tomorrow for Halloween. Amanda Tapping from Stargate series is a special guest on the show.
We do a big display and thought it would be fun to add a Stargate pattern if anyone has one. I've searched google but got nothing.
I know it's unlikely I'll find one at this late date but if anyone has one in their personal collection I'd appreciate it.
I've got almost 100 carved pumpkins but still have a dozen that are waiting for patterns.
Any suggestions? |

I carved a pumpkin today. I didn't do a fancy one this time like I really wanted, but my dad will love the dragon face. :)
I roasted the pumpkin seeds with butter, cloves, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and sugar.
