    Mary's new band is now called Soft Power and they're playing a few dates along the East Coast this summer.

    The band's MySpace page has the dates & a couple of songs.

    (This news is about a week old, but I just found it out today so I figured some of the rest of you would like to know.)

    Alright, this seems to be dead, but anyway, here's a very cool link that someone gave me when I asked for The Shapes We Make in another community. I thought you might be interested

    The Shapes We Make
    Hey everyone (: I don't know if you share music here, or if this is appropriate, but I've been looking for The Shapes We Make download torrents for ever, and I can't find anything but the 2 other records and Bat. vs. Bird. It would be amazing if you tell me where I can find The Shapes We Make. I would buy the record if I could find it here, but I live in a very small country where it's hard to find indie bands material.
    I have the material I've mentioned before if you want me to share it with you.
    Thanks! And sorry if this doesn't should be here.

    I love Mary Timony, I started listening to her through her collaboration with Carrie Brownstein. I'm a huge Sleater-Kinnet fan too.

    I went to see Mary Timony's new band, Pow Wow, tonight at the Black Cat. It was really great, as one would expect. The sound seems to be somewhere between her first two solo albums (Mountains and The Golden Dove) and her last two (Ex Hex and The Shapes We Make). It had equal parts melancholy dreaminess and crazy rock. I loved it.

    I've been listening to a lot of late '60s rock/folk/psychedelic lately, and I think Pow Wow has a lot of that feel to them.

    Mary is always going to dominated any band she's in because that's just how she is, but I was impressed at how Pow Wow was an actual band. It didn't feel like Mary Timony with some other musicians -- it felt like a cohesive unit. I'm really excited for whatever album they put out. I think it's going to be wonderful.

    I've probably seen Mary just under a dozen times now, and tonight she was probably the best I've ever seen her. She was having a lot of fun and the audience was too. I know Pow Wow is going to be awesome.

    Pow Wow
    Mary Timony is apparently in a new band called Pow Wow. It features Darren Zentek, Winston Yu, and Jonah Takagi. They seem to have played a show in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 21, but they will be at The Black Cat's "backstage" on Jan. 10 for the venue's "Second Saturdays" series featuring local bands.

    So far, there doesn't seem to be any music clips of this band out there so I'm looking forward to going to check them out. In any case, this sounds like pretty exciting news since we haven't heard much from her in a bit.

    Pitchfork interviews Ash Bowie
    Pitchfork: On a semi-related note, is there any chance of a Helium reunion?

    AB: As far as the original lineup, there's probably zero chance of a reunion, but I myself joined the band later. Well, that would be a fun project. Mary [Timony] and I also had our own band called Led Byrd that was supposed to do a record someday, so you never know.

    A few nights ago, I was watching Michaelangelo Antonioni's 1975 film, The Passenger, and during the last ten or so minutes of the film, the woman character (played by Maria Schneider) talks about "the shapes we make." It's right after a speech about blindness; I wish I had captured the actual dialogue between her and Jack Nicholson (before I sent it back through the mail), but I thought it was really interesting. I doubt Mary pulled the line from the film, but it was an unusual discovery nonetheless.

    Saw the T$ last night in minneapolis.....turnout was not good. My friend and I were two of the 15 people (including the other two bands which had 4 members each, and the timony band, and then some of the bands relatives/friends). But seriously it was an awesome show...

    Setlist (not sure it's in the right order)
    Summer Fawn
    Sharpshooter
    Rider on the Stormy Sea (one of my favorites glad to hear it)
    Pause/Off
    Friend to J.C.
    Each Day
    Pink Clouds

    Setlist last night at the Echo
    Here's what was played last night at the Echo in Los Angeles...

    Ted Nugent, what you gonna do? What you gonna do when they come for you? )

    It was a good set. I really like the band she's touring with now - everything sounded great. Also, I'm glad there was a better turnout than the last couple of times I saw her play in the area.

    ETA: If you check out Mary's MySpace, someone who was also at this show posted a few pictures as a comment!

    Some Exposure
    ~~~
    Some folks may be pleased to know that at the hair studio I work at the usual IPOD controller was absent, so my comrades asked for me to play mine. I hadn't the mix I have played in the past for "salon appropriate" music, however, I did play the new Mary album. This was quite well recieved and led to an encore play as well as "the golden dove".
    Needless to say it sounded great. As well as inspiring and refreshing.
    Great article by Lisa Hix of Venus in the April issue. (This was also posted at pm).
    Picked up the new album earlier today (I mean yesterday). I've yet to listen to it... but that'll be one of tomorrow (or later today)'s highlights.
