    Study - fun, fun.
    Hi guys,

So, if posting this here is inappropriate, please feel free to come and hit me or something. I don't want to tread on anyone's toes.

My name is Lucy and I'm working on a research paper on vampires for my Sociology class. I'm hoping to get participation from as many real-life vampires as I can, both psychic and sanguinarian. What I've got isn't so much a survey as an open-ended interview - I'm basically looking for anyone willing to talk about their experience of vampirism.

If you'd like to take part, you can contact me via LiveJournal or at noiseandkisses_1008@hotmail.com . I'd really love to hear from you!

Vampires Today: The Truth About Modern Vampirism (Academic Book)

If you're interested in the Vampirism & Energy Work Research Study (VEWRS/AVEWRS), sanguinarian and/or psychic vampirism, or the vampire community in general you will want to purchase a copy of this book.  There hasn't been anything quite like this published before... a very different kind of text/approach than that of Ramsland, Guiley, Guinn, and others.

The academic and sociological significance of this work can't be underscored enough.  Laycock offers a sweeping scholarly examination of the vampire community and the process of self-identification as a vampire.  He counters many of the negative stereotypes of the vampire community and posits thought-provoking arguments regarding ontological diversity.  I strongly encourage everyone to obtain a copy of this book and link to it as a resource for vampirism and the vampire community.

    Inside Cover:

Vampires are not just the stuff of folklore and fiction. This book explores the modern world of vampirism in all its variety.

Around the globe, untold numbers of people are identifying as "vampires" and following the ways of "vampirism."  But what does it mean to be a vampire?  Is vampirism a religion? Is it a fantasy? Is it a medical condition?  Based upon extensive interviews with members of the Atlanta Vampire Alliance and others within vampire communities throughout the United States, Vampires Today looks at the many expressions of vampirism.

In the past two decades, modern vampirism has come under increased study, yet most scholarship has portrayed the vampire community as a cultural phenomenon or, at worst, as a religious cult. Having interviewed many vampires across the country, both "lifestylers" and "real," even those "reluctants" who try not to be vampires, Laycock argues that today's vampires are best understood as an identity group and that vampirism has caused a profound change in how individuals choose to define themselves. As vampires come "out of the closet," either as followers of a "religion" or "lifestyle" or as people biologically distinct from other humans, their confrontation with mainstream society will raise questions about the definition of "normal" and what it means to be human.

In this book, readers will meet "lifestyle vampires," who adopt a culture and a gothic ascetic associated with the vampires of art and legend.  They will be introduced to "real" vampires, who feel that they must actually consume blood and/or psychic energy for their well being.  They will hear from members of the Atlanta Vampire Alliance, and they will learn about the Order of the Vampyre, the Ordo Strigoi Vii, and the Temple of the Vampire.

There is no doubt that anyone who reads this book will find the details of real vampire life--including vampire role-playing games, grimoires, "vampyre" balls, vampire houses like House Sahjaza and House Kheperu, the vampire "caste" system, and other details--utterly fascinating.

Additional Notes:  The author holds a Masters of Divinity from Harvard University, a recipient of a grant from the Pluralism Project, and currently enrolled in the Division of Religious and Theological Studies at Boston University where he's working on his PhD.  He has presented on the topic of vampirism at the American Academy of Religion Conference in San Diego where he argued that "vampirism" should not be classified as a new religious movement (NRM) and to faculty at the University of Michigan and other institutional bodies on the sociological and emergent scientific aspects of vampirism.  He will be delivering a paper on Otherkin in August (2009) at the Association for the Sociology of Religion's annual conference in San Francisco, CA.  Laycock is well versed in the structure of the vampire community, has interviewed many individuals from diverse paths, and attended multiple gatherings.

Hi, I am Tori, and I am primarily a succubus. I feed off negative energy, and (although it disgusts me to stoop to this level) am similar to a cross between stephanie Meyer's Edward and Jasper. I Drink blood whenever I get the chance, but have a remarkable ability to control the Thirst.

    Anyone else enduring awakening transitions?
Been having intense downloads, recently.. They eventually occur in the forms of severe migraines, sometimes short-lived, but intense nonetheless.

Hunger has risen to the satiation of a Priest Vampyre... Natural energies that are ambient are hardly enough anymore.. Current happenings have been a good test of self control.

Would I penetrate skin eventually? It would be immoral to my vampyric upbringings, but some how I feel that possibly one day it will be too much.. That the Priest-ess Vampyre will give into her instinctual pangs..

What a transitioning process in my metamorphosis.

    The Universe is shifting continuously.

    Anyone else enduring such transitions?

    Hello from Griffin
I'm glad to be part of this community.

    thanks
    Griffin

I am writing a online first person journal from the point of view of a recently sired vampire named Griffin.

Here is the 2nd entry and a brief cutting.

    -----------

    Vampire Journal - 2nd Entry

    April 8th 2009
It’s been a few hours since my last post. Since then I visited with Lady Asha who leads the group I am now part of. She tried explaining what was to become of me, and my future. Of course if that’s all there was too it then perhaps I could relax, reflect and hopefully adjust but oh no, there is a huge bloody war going on under everyone’s nose right now. I will cover that and other details in a later post.

I miss my wife… It hasn’t sunk in yet that I will never see her again. No family either. I bet I would have made a great dad.

You can read the whole thing here, and the other 19 entries so far.

    Introduction.
    Hello All,

I figured I'd post a bit of an introduction. I go by Lucid and although I'm not new to LJ I am a bit newer to any of the vamp communities and in a moment of inspirtation (see "insainity") I decided to create my very own vampyre journal pretty much consisting of my rambleings about being a vampyre. It's not horribly interesting considering my life is pretty "normal" for the most part but it is fun to have. Feel free to friend me if your interested. I'm always up for a good Q&A (although some things I do not feel right talking about) or a good conversation.
As far as hobbies and interesting info goes I'm a book nut and will read just about anything that crosses my path, I like to knit but often get fed up with it, I enjoy being outside, in fact if I the town I lived in would allow it I'd live in a tent, all the time. I love horses and animals in general and have a thing about birds, black birds more so then anything.

Hello (or is it hello again?) from Cynthya BrianKate
After a long absence I am back on LJ and am getting around to introducing and re-introducing myself to LJ's vampire communities.
Hello everybody! I'm Cynthya BrianKate. I'm a transgender-identified intersex (though I prefer the older word hermaphrodite) lady psychic vampire who also happens to be otherkin. I currently live in Long Island, NY. I'm looking for some vampire community that's trans-friendly, intersex-friendly and also otherkin-friendly. I'd love to know if anybody on here is in NY, as I'd love to know some other folks, but am looking forward to hearing from any of y'all! --thanks, Cynthya

On the need for energy and its causes
I've noticed something about the need for energy, and its origin.

There has been much made of how alterations to one's body (spiritual or physical) can cause problems in taking in and processing certain kinds of energy. Whether those alterations are deliberate things made in a previous age, or severe damage from a recent time, it's clear that a reduction in this specific capacity leads to a requirement to take in energy.

There is also an increased need when one's spirit has grown to the point that the use of one's natural capabilities requires more energy than can be acquired without feeding somehow. I might fall into that category now, but there's one more possibility, related to damage -- but it's not actual damage.

When one's spiritual body becomes blocked with dark or slow energies, need increases in order to just keep energy flowing. I've found this to be particularly true for people who have a strong or sensitive spirit; where darkness has accumulated, less energy flows, but one's need (the level of energy required for basic maintenance) is the same. And so the intake of extra energy becomes necessary to maintain one's level of function.

In my own case, as I have been working on my energy and my spirit has cleared up, my need for energy has dropped. I still need to allow energy to flow through me, but the amount I process for my own use has dropped significantly, allowing me to release more back to my environment and reducing the amount of flow required to keep me functional (this is rather like how high cholesterol leads to high blood pressure and heart disease, and how diet and exercise helps fix that).

In the case of a friend of mine, she had two chakras which were so clogged that (as she described it) she had zero connection with her lower body: bright colors counting downward, then black and black. Literally, those chakras might as well have been missing. But they weren't: as she has done work to break up the dark stuff inside her, her own need for energy reduced greatly. But then she hit a plateau, and her need suddenly jumped. The answer to this is obvious when considered: When a clogged portion of one's spiritual body starts to clear out, things which are attached there in order to feed and/or discard their own darkness begin to operate again. Clearing those attachments becomes important to keep one's own energy inside and darkness out.

I never really identified with the vampire as an archetype, but rather shapechangers and animals; and my spiritual abilities and energetic needs seemed not to match the patterns of those vampiric Families I've met. But as my energy (and certain situations) has cleared and improved, I have realized more and more my true (draconic) self. Perhaps some of you reading this might have a similar problem; I hope you learn who you really are, too.

Vampirism & Energy Work Research Study

We have consolidated our contact and information sharing network on Ning into one central location and invite everyone who has already participated, in the process of participating, or is interested in this study to join the following Ning group.  This network will only be used for internal community informational purposes whereas the existing http://www.suscitatio.com web site will remain the primary research hub.  This will greatly reduce the time it takes to notify those who are interested without the need to post future minor updates across 30+ Ning groups, 100+ MySpace groups, 20+ LiveJournal communities, etc.  Additionally, any important breaking community related news will be available via this network; see VVC RSS Feed.

    Please Join:  http://suscitatio.ning.com

The latest information concerning the Vampirism & Energy Work Research Study (VEWRS & AVEWRS Surveys) will be posted via this network.  All charts are available and posted in the photos section for data sets one through four.  2009 is going to be a busy year for us with analysis, the completion of additional data sets, and a couple important publications released that involve our research.  Thank you for your continued interest and support!

    Book Project: Being a Vampire
    Greetings,

I'm the founder and webmistress for Sanguinarius.org for Real Vampires. I am collecting personal experiences from self-identified real vampires for possible inclusion in a book about real vampires. I'm looking for essay responses to the following: 1.) How you came to identify as being a vampire, and 2.) What being a vampire means to you. If you would like to contribute material for consideration to be included in a future publication, please go to http://www.sanguinarius.org/project.shtml and read the page for requirements and instructions.

And if you have a page or a blog, would you please put a link to the Project page?
