Wishing a happy birthday to Mr. James O'Neill, even if he IS a miserly bastard.

See? Even using a picture that is not of the Count. Count that as a nod in the right direction. And this is all assuming that the date is the right one, bugger the discrepancies and all. And, y'know, just wait till thursday, because then... Oh, then, there will be more fun.

Still. Whoo for James, who really probably does deserve more appreciation than certain people (not saying WHO-O) were willing to give him. Because damn, guys. Damn.

I was reading about [info]wanderlustlover's weekend, and it reminded me of something I had meant to look into doing next year, ie attend the Ecumenicon Interfaith Conference. It's in Potomac, MD, so I can actually go and not have to figure out how the hell I'll afford a plane ticket.

Theme for 2009 (it's in March, btw) is, "Justice and Mercy: Finding the Balance" which draws my attention a bit. (I will write about this someday in a post, but there is a tendency/urge--I think especially among liberals, though I haven't run a poll and freely admit it--to dwell on mercy at the expense of justice. I think there does need to be a balance, which means justice is considered in taking actions to decide what's merciful and appropriate.)

It'll cost me either $90 or $95--there were two conflicting figures--to attend, though I should be able to get $15 off as a student. If I pay another $45 I can take one of the intensive/major classes. (Right now, from what I can tell, the options decided at this point are: "History of Magick, Justice & Forgiveness, Spiritual Group Dynamics, Divination, and Mystic Judaism". I'm not sure if more will be there or not from the webpage. I'm also not sure if I'm going to sign up for one or not. Hell, I'm not sure if I'm going at all, though I'd like to. We'll see. Per usual.)

Anyone else intrigued? Interested in going?

*tempts with, um, tempting things* *yes* I'm like the opposite of the serpent in Eden. But cuter. And less inclined to slither.

I hear a noise.

Look up from my laptop to see that the Lady Ember, She That Reigns The Room, has discovered my pack of sanitary pads.

And has gleefully started biting each pad out to lift it out of the pack and then toss it impressively high into the air. And then attack it. Attack! Kill it! Kill it dead! It's wrapped in plastic that makes crinkling sounds! Thus it must be DESTROYED!

And then I tried not to laugh loudly so as to not wake my housemates. *facepalms* *a lot*

when your life gets too complicated, gotta let the music get down in your soul [13 Oct 2008|09:51pm]

[ music | Marc Broussard - Let The Music Get Down In Your Soul ]

So I’m in Panera and I have about an hour left. I have around 400ish new photos to upload, all way higher resolution than my computer knows what to do with. And I was right, I did so much since I last wrote... and I’m pretty sure it’s only been a week.

Last week, I went to Portland with Kirstin to see Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers with Pat McGee opening for them. I mostly went to see Pat, and we were late, but it was freaking awesome. They played The Aladdin Theatre and it was almost EMPTY. I mean, that’s bad for them. It wasn’t really empty, just not packed. Anyways, we walked right up to the front row and had an AMAZING view the entire night. The Sixers are hands down one of my all-time favorite bands to see live. They NEVER disappoint. They are just so much fun, and they completely entertain the entire time they are on stage. I HIGHLY recommend seeing them, even if you’ve never heard the music (and I’m the QUEEN of hating concerts when I don’t know the music) or ever even heard of them, which many of you likely haven’t before my mention. They are spectacular.

The drive home somewhat blew, though. 3 hours alone in the car because (oh, get ready for THIS foreshadowing) Kirstin was going with some of her Fanson friends (see: below, they come up again) to the Sixers show in Spokane, and I forgot. Yay for darkness and sleepiness on i-5. Luckily, good friend Phil McCully came to the rescue and very kindly talked to me for two hours until my phone died. I’m thinking it was like 3AM or 4AM for him? What a good friend. Thanks Phil, you very likely saved my life. Then after he saved my life, Vault and a bag of peanut butter m&m’s saved my life for the last hour-ish. Vault = Sprite spiked with mucho de caffieno. Who’d’a thunk it? Thank god, I found something like Red Bull that doesn’t taste shitty ... like Red Bull.

If memory serves me, the next day, we did the Maintenance and Hangar tour, which was kinda cool. We saw airplanes and other things I didn’t understand. And found out how much the toilet seats cost. ... Just... don’t break ‘em, okay?

Friday night, I went downtown to see SK6ers ROCK OUT again, this time with openers The Spring Standards, another Rock Boat artist. Cute fact that might make people (slash maybe just my father) check them out: They are a three piece band with no drummer, yet they have drums. They pretty much took a drum set and split it between the three performers. So they are all singing, playing their instrument (keys, guitar, or bass), and drums at the same time. It was CRAZY. But before the show, I was shockingly ditched in the worst way by my so-called friend I know through the Rock Boat message boards. Why, you ask? Because she ran into some WAY cooler FANson friends (Hanson Fans... get it?) and acted like I wasn’t even there. Which, you know, is cool, I was only wandering around downtown Seattle alone for an hour and a half waiting for her to call me like she said she would so we could go in together. She finally decided to answer her phone when she was already there with her Fanson friends. I coulda been freaking front row, man. The other part was the venue. Pretty groovy, the Triple Door. It’s like a dinner theatre. You sit down and have dinner with your friends (or in my case on a seat that was obviously wedged in somewhere it shouldn’t have been alone and depressed) and then watch the show. Cute idea, and I’d’ve probably enjoyed it if Luis or Brittany or Mike Micalone was with me. I can’t think of anyone else I could get to go see the Sixers with me. Anyways, I was miserable. Right before the sixers got on stage, though, a different Rock Boater, Manuch (See: Man-ooch. Real name, too, ain’t that awesome?!), introduced himself. Thank TRB God, faith in the Rock Boat family has been restored. We met up after the show and talked. He was really friendly. And Kirstin (said Ditcher with her fellow Fansons) barely even looked at me when I passed by her pissed. Regardless, the Sixers were AMAZING as always. They definitely turned my frown upside down. Thank goodness.

Moving right along. Friday morning I woke up after another impressive 4 hours to catch a plane with Katie to Me-hi-co City! It was a long travel, but we lucked out. First of all, we made it on all 4 flights (two each way), which was a miracle. But secondly, the first flight to LA, I had an entire row to myself, so I totally sprawled out and enjoyed a cat-nap. Then we upgraded to first class from LA to MEX, which was super nice. And I had House to keep me company. Such an awesome show. Seriously, I love it. Santa, take note? KTHNX!

Mexico City itself was... interesting. A lot more Spanish than I had expected. I don’t know why. But actually, I’ll write about it next time. Just remind me.

WRITE ABOUT MEXICO!

Allow me to introduce you to P.B. Loco. Again, I found out about it via Unwrapped (I watch that show entirely too much)!

Freaking wow. That's all I have to say. That, and Erika, have you ever been to the one in Phoenix (I don't know how often you go there)?

And sometimes I wonder why I never accomplish anything useful... [13 Oct 2008|08:40pm]

I ended up buying Twilight Princess. 'Nough said.
I was also all ready to buy a Lynn hat today but once again she wasn't there. Boo.
And any skill I may have once had to think ahead has apparently vanished completely. Grumble...
Apparently the combination of both me and Corvus being really...out of it and then both having a shit load of sugar is a terrible idea. Those poor people...
I'm seriously considering doing this split a booth at the market thing with Char (me doing duct tape stuffs, Char doing croche (sp) stuffs...) Cause A. that'd be crazy fun B. I need moneys C. both of our styles are seriously way more interesting/unique than the other people doing that stuff there already. No idea when I'd be able to do it besides maybe weekends for now and various breaks but it would really be a lot of fun. Now to wait for some people to leave so some spots open up haha
Hmmm guess I should go do that reading. Bugger.

Writer's Block: Lenny Bruce [13 Oct 2008|11:32pm]

_kataomoi_

Before George Carlin exposed the seven words you can’t say on television, comedian Lenny Bruce was arrested multiple times for saying all seven, and more, on stage. Who is today’s most groundbreaking comedian? Or is there even any ground left to break?

View other answers

There's no ground left to break, but Lenny Bruce did it more hardcore than that wank George Carlin.

George Carlin Dane Cook'ed the fun out of Lenny Bruce's shtick.

I am a little sad to see summer go this year.

The problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away. Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you!

The future has arrived! And it's all bogged down in legal jargon! [13 Oct 2008|06:40pm]

So I went to the new California Academy of Sciences yesterday, and it was uber-neat, and I made a pretty nifty video of my day set to a song from the Meet the Robinsons soundtrack, and neither Google nor YouTube will allow the upload, because that song apparently is one of the many protected by that video/audio matching thing they're doing, where they have a database of copyrighted material and they'll run your upload through to see if it matches anything. I...am irked. Especially as there are a ton of other videos with songs by the same artist on them; though I suppose they were uploaded before the sites got all crafty.

Honestly. I mean, I'm not turning a profit with this - it's just underscoring some video of me and my friends goofing around...but I really have no idea if it would fall under the blanket of "fair use" as it stands now. Grr.

Well, it's up on Facebook, if anyone wants to go see it there. If you can't access it, but still would like to see it, let me know and I'll send you the original file.

Edit: God, I went through, like, five sites before I got this one: http://www.vidiLife.com/video_play_1260513_California_Academy_of_Sciences.htm?tc=1161006

I've been perusing the 'net, and my use of the song seems like it's not "fair use". But YouTube and Google and all those other hosting sites have only recently starting cracking down on that via the content-blocker, it seems. Fuckin'-a. I fear for my future Disney montages.
