give you all a chance to listen to this really beautiful tape i put out on my

description:

no one knows why black eagle child sprung
out of his little midwestern nest, but we're all
sure as hell happy he did. cause he came out
spitting out one prolific sound scape after another.

his brilliant side of the tape features guitar,
accordion, road noise and rainstorms. all 3 tracks
are strung together with bliss wire, static and deep
low voice choir drones. a delicate riff arises, repeats.
mimicking itself and branching off into skeletal
sculptures. the sounds sink into the wind wallowing
restlessly, as city buses from the street creep in and
swallow. this is a meditative piece. sitting on the side
of a mountain with kind buds and no-mind. examine.

B side features oh be joyful, who begins an improvised
guitar piece with the sound of the wind sailing over sea
glass, an embrace of the earth and its movement.
recorded in a tent, this first piece reflects the intimacy of
living in that small space. with "ghost ride side car," this
side continues down a bleak path with what sounds like
the rumble of a motorcycle making its way through
a deserted town at night. goosebumps and sightings.
the last track, 'thunder hills chorus,' ends the cycle with
some deep deep bass and a chorus loop resounding,
raw gurgly murk getting spit out of the polluted earth.

Hello all. I've just signed up to LJournal and quickly discovered your excellent community. I'm love a very wide range of music but folk and psych-folk are definitely among my favourite styles. I suppose the greater part of my 'folk' collection consists of British artists like Bert Jansch, Richard Thompson, Fairport Convention, Nick Drake and Shirley Collins. I also some of the newer psych-folk artists but I'm not all that up to date with recent trends - Espers, James Yorkston - I like them. I'm also interested in trad. music and ballads by the likes of Jeannie Robertson, Martin Carthy, Anne Briggs and others. Anyway, I'm looking forward to reading more here and making some acquaintances. I'll be back soon. If anyone could leave me some of their ideas for further listening around the contemporary folk and psych-folk secne, I'd be grateful.

Seedhill Bruiser, a schizophrenic gay man from Scotland who makes "gay folk songs and sea chanties". I have a hard time describing his sound, it's sort of almost shoegazer and has almost that "wyrd folk" kind of sound. He does a lovely version of my favourite hymn Idumea and others.

If you're at all interested in Shape Note or Sacred Harp singing, (or especially if you've never heard of them before :) ), there's a great new documentary film available to watch for free for one week only at http://pitchfork.tv/week/awake-my-soul-the-story-of-the-sacred-harp.

I love participating in this genuine community-based singing, though the theology expressed in the traditional shapenote tunes is not mine. You can find out most everything about it at http://fasola.org/. It's a-cappella roots music that has inspired some psych-folk musicians (Jolie Holland, and The Incredible String Band to name a couple), and there are young people still writng new songs (some secular) for the genre.

Hello all:

I was wondering if you all would like to help me out with my homework... I've written these two songs for a class (on minnesota's rivers and the dakota people) and i was wondering if you'd help me choose which to turn it.

it's a creative writing class, so lyrics and "evocativeness" are most important, but the rest is important too.

the recordings/singing are pretty sub-par cause i just recorded them quickly to post and ask for help... i'll do a better recording of the final song.
