Ah. I wanted to introduce myself...

I joined this community a while back and in the course of some real life garbage (mostly moving halfway across the state (instead of moving to London like I'd like to) and hunting for a job) I'd forgotten to introduce myself. So...

HI!! I am, unfortunately, an American (from Washington state to be exact) and am all about the Britlove. You can call me K. I am slowly finding my way to Monty Python and Eddie Izzard though I've always had a love of British comedy. I am a huge Rowan Atkinson fan, though, and have the Union Jack as the background on my mobile (and as soon as I can find myself a Union Jack bumper sticker, I plan to dress up my car!!) I have a British slang online dictionary bookmarked and try to work as many britishisms into every day conversation as I can (though, sometimes, it's hard to understand the context to use it. This is where British comedy and television comes in handy...it gives you an example on how to apply it)
...I used to confuse people at my last job with all the "slang," but it didn't take long to get others to start using words like "bloody" and "wanker" and "tosser" though those last two took longer to catch on because, being so incredibly American, most thought they were "dirty" insults. Ha!

In any case, I'm glad to be here sharin' the Britlove.

I know you all have favorite British films. Or, at least, I do, and I have ModPower, so I do what I want, and all you meat puppets obey.

So I've decided to throw in a British Film of the Week ordeal, and let you all commentate and debate on it. Penny for your thoughts, basically. This week's film:

About A Boy

I adored this movie (and the book as well), though at first I only rented it because Hugh Grant was in it, and I molest him in my fondest dreams. By the time I'd gone through the film, I realized that there is more to it all than just Sexy British Manmeat. Of course, I kind of wish Hugh Grant would get out of that "jerky-rich-guy" role, but he does it so well. The kid was great too (pardon me for forgetting the actor's name), and I loved the music. Got me into Badly Drawn Boy - what do you know!

Anyway, that was my crap two cents - add yours! Let's make it a party!

Go back to Britain, get a cool artsy-type job, find a loffly Brit who can put up with me, convince her to let me build a hobbit hole, and live Britishly-ever-after with our tea and biscuits....

I do love the accents, and the general differences in vocabulary.

You know I love them for what they are! (Bizarre.)

I think half the reason we love it so much is because we don't understand it.

Go back to Britain and study there. And I shall.

Thanks for getting posts in, you know I love it. I'm really trying to find something non-boy related here, and it's difficult for me, as thinking about the pretty, pretty boys takes up so much of my time. I'll figure something out, though, never fear!

1-Favorite British-ism – I love their sense of humor, use of considerably naughty words (by American Standards) such as Cunt and Wanker, and of course the accents.

2- British movies: Are weird but It’s a good weird

3- British humor: I like British humor. It’s dry and intellectual

4- what is your British! goal in life – I at least want to visit England, Maybe go to college there or something like that.

2- british movies: British movies, or British themed movies are fabulous... I <3 About a Boy, Bridget Jones's Diary, and, of course, Monty Python....

3- british humor: British humour is so much better than American (ie, toilet humour.... ugh)

my answers:
1-oh, the accents. duh. i cant live without them.
2-mostly theyre bizarre, but very good. i <3 Lock, Stock, & 2 Smoking Barrells, and Snatch.
3-oh god. none of it, but its fucking funny. ((for example: monty python. totally random. utterly fantastic))
4-i wish to move to a place in the U.K. ((not too picky right now)), find a lovely, accented british boy, and marry him.

*laugh*
that took up a total of... 5 minutes.
but C'MON PEOPLE!

Dang. Anyway, I love British stuff. And when you think of Brits, you think of Brits wearing dresses, and when you think of Brits wearing dresses you're thinking about something completely different, which leads you into thinking about MONTY PYTHON! How I love them. Mainly the Holy Grail (which I have memorized by heart) but all sorts of other stuff too. Any others like Monty Python? Any favorite moments?

Oh, and also "tosser" is one of my favorite insults XD

This is a new community based around the fact that some of us, regrettably, are not British, though we vehemently wish we were. We swoon over British guys (or girls, whatever your preference ;D), we watch British film and television, we listen to British bands. So this is where you'll Britishgasm. Community takes all comers - wherever you're from, whoever you are, you're welcome to share in the Britlove. Still, no flaming or anything ridiculous like that, please?

I, along with irish_cocktail, will be your maintainer, and what we say goes, because we are the gods of this community, and you will fear our awesome wrath. I'm sure we'll be making up rules and guidelines and all the good stuff at some point, if we are not too lazy.

So join! And post! Any suggestions, just let me know.
