Well, after 2 months of waiting for a box from Sony, we get TWO in the mail!
The PS3 is now in the hands of UPS! I hope the "fixed" console works better than this one did. We didn't have any problem until one day, we couldn't even get it to the main screen without it puttering. The black background with the ribbon... well it had stopped. Wouldn't even get to the icon screen before it froze.
Should have gotten a Wii, I guess...?

Orinda Intellectual Properties sues Sony for Blu-ray patent infringement
If this goes through then this is going to be a huge problem for the PlayStation 3. Hopefully, it'll be realized as bullshit, and disregarded.
Orinda Intellectual Properties, a company whose main purpose appears to be suing other companies (see Google search for more), has claimed that Sony has infringed upon patent number 5,438,560, which describes the process of layering data on an optical disc. The patent, originally filed by Hyundai in 1993, sounds similar to Blu-ray's multi-layering process. (However, this sounds like technology used in almost all forms of optical media.)
Orinda is demanding a trial, and wants to halt the manufacturing, sales and distribution of all Blu-ray devices, including the PS3. Orinda is also asking for "a reasonable royalty." "Orinda has been and will continue to be damaged as a result of Defendants' infringing conduct," the company said in the filing. "Defendants' infringing conduct will continue unless permanently enjoined by this court."
If this goes through then this is going to be a huge problem for the PlayStation 3. Hopefully, it'll be realized as bullshit, and disregarded.

dunno why it occurred to me to think about it just now, but i got the 20gig on release on purpose. the 20gig didn't suffer quite as much being called "gimped" as the 360 core/arcade/whatever the one with no hard drive is did, but it did still get some.
i got it because i knew i'd be replacing the drive regardless, and figured i'd be less upset losing 20gigs worth of saves than i would with 60. and, i already had a wireless adapter from when i got tricked into buying the network adapter for the ps2 that turned out to be completely useless, so at least now i'm getting use out of the wireless adapter now. and i didn't see myself needing to use a cf/sd card, like ever.
now in the face of several new 80gig models, and the 160 coming in a couple months, and they all lack backwards compatibility, which i still use, lack the card readers, the 160 will have the same amount of hard drive as mine... it looks like the only thing i'm really missing is the chrome strip..which i could put on with some chrome tape, or fingernail polish or somethin..
so, how is it gimped, again?

Hey all, finally some of the guys went down in price, which is great for a married man with kids. I recently bought rainbow six vegas. So if anyone wants to do some Co Op - just send me a comment back
I also got warhawk and 1945 (which is great because I wasted a lot of quarters in the arcade back in the day on that game)

Thanks

her son is the expert on all things video game related, watches everything on g4, reads all the newsgroups, but had his head so far up bill's ass he'd never heard of mgs4 or blu-ray?
anyone making odds on whether she really has a son, or just needed to turn in a tech related story this week?

So another girl gamer I met on LJ has started a gaming community. We are just looking for somewhere to talk about gaming in general. Not specifically for any type of person or any specific console or game. It is brnd spanking new. We have a handful of members but looking for more. We need some members who are active and like to post.
Take a peek.

Hi PS3er's,
Just joined. I bought a PS3 fairly recently and I installed first Ubuntu 7.10 and then Yellow Dog Linux 6.0 on it. Basically I've been disappointed with how Linux works on it and am thinking I may just wipe it off entirely. I wrote about it in a little more detail in my journal. I was just wondering if anyone here had any comment or maybe wants to make an argument that I should stick with it. Feel free to comment here or on my journal post. Thanks!

MediaServer Issues

So I recently purchased a 60gb PS3 off of eBay. Everything is working great, and I just got the media server link working between my PS3 and my iMac using the MediaLink software. I'm having an issue though, with streaming videos over my wireless connection.
The videos stutter fairly frequently. Unfortunately a Google search suggests that the culprit is the MP4 files I'm streaming... but many sites claim previous firmware upgrades solve that issue. Still others say that if I have an MP4 file with H.264 encoding (and I do) that this will also cause a problem. And of course, others say that the LinkSys WRT54GS router I have is anathema to the PS3, or that it is impossible to stream over a wireless (as opposed to wired) network. Then again they also say the opposite.
Obviously with so much conflicting information I'm unsure of where to turn, so I am wondering if someone can enlighten me as to the potential causes, and more importantly potential solutions, to enjoy a (mostly) flawless wireless video stream.

The death and afterlife of a 60GB PS3.
In this article, we'll take a look at what has happened to Sony's flagship console SKU, and we'll recount our experience of trying to get one of these precious 60GB models replaced under warranty. If you've got a 60GB PS3, you'll want to read this in case yours ever croaks. And, if you don't have one, read it anyway and wonder what Sony is thinking by discontinuing their best unit.

Hi there. I only have a part time job and my boyfriend has a PS3...as well as his brother...so we play online with each OTHER a lot. But I'm looking for some decent people to get to know online, and then add to our PS3 games. Even if it's just so I have someone to play with on all my time free sitting around doing nothing :-) So send me a message, get to know me, then we can add each other :-)
