Project Liberty is the codename for the case files of the Red Alert Squad: a small, off-the-books unit of Counter Terrorist Unit agents which handles cases that require methods or knowledge beyond those offered by conventional law enforcement. All of them closely interlinked with one another, this small band of agents is as complicated by their relationships and belief systems as they are by the cases they handle. Sometimes, the former is just as lethal as the latter.
The Red Alert Squad consists of a team of unlikely agents:
Team leader Kyle Porter (Steven Culp, "Desperate Housewives") is a man searching for direction in his personal life after the murder of his family, a brilliant agent crippled by a near-death experience he suffered years earlier, uncertain of his ability to lead or perform after the losses he has suffered. He's like a brother to Greg, and Brittany's former boss and one-time potential love interest.
Former executive officer Brittany House (Eliza Dushku, "Tru Calling") never wanted to be an agent, and certainly doesn't now with a husband and a young son to raise. Retired and coaching basketball, she's still in the public eye...but her heart of gold and her self-sacrificing streak all too easily drag her back into the world of law enforcement and make her break the rules she's set for herself. She's House's wife, Kyle's best friend, and Jake's one apparent confidant.
The new number-two man is Jake Hannigan (Josh Lucas, "Glory Road"), a veteran ex-military agent whose intensity carries in a ruthless day job and a complicated personal life. Disgraced by one mistake in his life, betrayed by his former best friend, Hannigan has thrown his lot in with the Squad because it's the one chance he has. However, he's not compromising who he is...and doesn't care what he has to do for his job. Jake has a volatile relationship with Brittany, and a downright hateful relationship with her husband.
Dr. Greg House (Hugh Laurie, "House") is Brittany's husband, and the medical officer on the team. House is the head of diagnostics at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, a maverick jackass of a doctor who will risk anything and try everything to save the lives of patients no one else can heal. He brings that same innovative thinking and acerbic attitude to his work on the team, with a deep protectiveness where his wife is concerned. House loves his wife, worries about best friend Kyle, and clashes often with Jake.
The squad is sometimes assisted by various people from their past, including Julian Burroughs (Joel Gretsch, "The 4400"), man in charge of CTU's New York office, who directs cases to the team and helps keep them off the books, David Roberts (Mehcad Brooks, "Glory Road"), Jake Hannigan's agent in training; and Lex Richards (Richard Speight Jr., "The Agency"), Brittany's former partner and technology expert with a criminal past.
Project Liberty is a collection of the Red Alert Squad's cases, trials and tribulations past and present, from various communities and challenges, as these diverse heroes, all with secrets, goals and something to lose, take everything one day at a time in a world where they handle life and death every single moment.
