| Yet Another Update |
[20 Oct 2006|09:26pm] |
Hey all!
I just wanted to update everyone on the progress over at the NEW and IMPROVED Pulp Project 1557 wiki.
I am about 85%-90% finished with porting over the data from the old site on SeedWiki. It has been a long and strenuous journey (as I'm essentially doing it all myself), but I can see the end!
Please feel free to visit, and if you're so moved, add content. We take just about everything over there, including images (please keep it clean, we are a family operation...). You will need to register with WetPaint (thanks spammers!) to edit, but once you do, it's dirt easy to add info.
Come on over!

| Back from vacation |

I just returned yesterday, and I've already added links from Uncle Bear's posting of Colin Chapman's amazing Ultimate Pulp Era Gear Archive.
Thanks Uncle Bear!
So, just to update, I'm still migrating....
Anyone want to help?

| So Far, So Good.... |
[07 Aug 2006|10:31am] |
As I can, I have been migrating content from the old Project 1557 site, to the new one at WetPaint.
I must say, I'm rather pleased at the result.
WetPaint allows me to upload pictures to spice up the pages, which I have taken advantage of on a number of pages. It really helps make it feel like a real site.
I still haven't gotten all the content moved over, yet, but I'm working on it as I can (of course, I would never turn down any offers of assistance from anyone...). Some of the links have not been adjusted yet, so you may get sent off from the new site to the old one for the time being. The most tedious part of the whole thing is in reorganizing the pages. I have taken a stab at it, but if anyone has a better idea, let me know.

| Experiment |
[17 Jul 2006|04:37pm] |
|
I'm trying something new. I was just recently introduced to WetPaint wiki through an association with folks on a Risus mail list. I decided I'd take a chance and set up Pulp Project 1557. There is not much there, except for some subject headings, but I hope to migrate some of the non-spammed contents over to see how it all looks. If anyone wants to check it out and give me some feedback, feel free.

| Spammed |
[12 Jul 2006|04:44pm] |
Project 1557 has been hit by a spammer. The notices have been removed, but it has affected previously edited entries. I've tried to restore previous versions, but it seems that even these previous versions have been affected.
Any suggestions?

| In the Works |
[13 Feb 2006|10:56am] |
I'm working on a new Project 1557 umm, project. Its still under wraps, but hope to unveil it in the next few months...
Regarding the revamp of the site, I'm still going back and forth between a standard text Table of Contents and organization and a Dewey Decimal System style. Any thoughts or suggestions?

| Happy Birthday Project 1557! |
[23 Jun 2005|12:25pm] |
Well, its belated anyway, by a little over a week.
Still it's pretty impressive to note that this project has lasted two years, and is pretty full of interesting stuff.
I'm thinking that Brian is right that it needs to be redone to make it more user-friendly....
I'd like to finish the Dewey Decimal System project to see if that's the answer...

| The Look |
[16 Jun 2005|03:05pm] |
Has anyone been by the Project 1557 site lately?
It looks to me as if the left hand column is encroaching on the content space.
I was just wondering how it looked to everyone else. After all, it could just be my browser...

After an initial study of the Dewey Decimal Classification System, this is how I see the original project 1557 categories fitting into them (cf with the Dewey Decimal System online):
Dewey Decimal # Current Project 1557 Section (from the main page) 920’s Pulp Biographies 900’s Pulp Cities 900’s Pulp Timeline 385-387 Pulp Transportation 380,383-384, 652(?) Pulp Communication 300’s, 500’s, 600’s Pulp Science 300’s Pulp Business And Finance 172, 320’s Pulp Politics 900’s Pulp Geography 300’s Pulp Culture 340’s, 364-365 Pulp Crime And Law Enforcement 355-359 Pulp Military Technology
I have copied the pages from the general classifications, and now I have to fit the DDC numbers to the pages. This is not going to be easy; the second layer is 40+ pages long!
