About
Welcome to the Project 29 community!

Note: Membership is by referral only. The only way to become a member of this community is to be nominated by a current member! Please do not ask me to add you to the community.

Project 29 is based on an idea found in Jeffrey Yamaguchi's website entitled 52 Projects. Here is the text from the original site, for Project 29:

Get a regular sized envelope. Address it to someone special. Then, stuff it with as many things as you can: a letter, photographs, ripped out magazine articles, photocopies of poems, a short story, or passages from a novel, recipes, clipped newspaper articles, art work, poems or stories you've written... anything that can be folded up and put in the envelope. Make sure to stuff it so full that you need to use tape to keep it sealed. This envelope should have serious heft. Once it's sealed, get the proper postage put on it (definitely use stamps) and mail it off.

The way Project 29 on Livejournal works is like this:

Bi-monthly, a poll will be posted by the moderator ([info]deense or [info]gothelen). In this poll, you will need to fill out your name, address, and valid email address. This personal information will not be visible to anyone else in the community but the moderator.

48 hours later, the poll will be closed, and emails will be sent to each individual participant showing who your Project 29 partner is. Partners are selected at random, and the more people that sign up for the project, the more likely you'll get paired with someone you don't know.

Once you have your name, you'll have til around the 15th of the same month to prepare your 6"x9" envelope with goodies as described above. Be creative with your envelopes and add whatever you want, as long as it doesn't create havoc with the Postal Service, and/or any government officials! Project 29 promotes SAFE mailing! Envelopes are to be mailed on the designated date, usually about a week after you receive your address via email.

We're sort of making this up as we go along, and while you have the freedom to put whatever you want into your envelope, there are some guidelines that need to be followed and understood before agreeing to join the exchange for any particular month:

  • You must be a member of the community AND watch the community on your friends list in order to participate.
  • By signing up for the exchange, you are agreeing to fill out 2 additional polls after you submit your address: One poll to say you have mailed your envelope, and another poll that will tell us when you have received your envelope. This is crucial as there is only one person monitoring who has received what and when and I cannot search through entries to make sure you're covered.
  • If you do not send an envelope, you understand that your username may end up on our Wall of Shame and we're probably going to say rotten things about you.

And that's it! Just a few little things to follow, and they aren't that difficult!

If you have further questions, please feel free to address them to us at project29 (at) gmail (dot) com!
    Happy Envelope Trading!
