The progressive rock sharing community
A place to learn about and share progressive rock
Name:Free love and good music
Location:Prog land
E-mail:
About:This Community has been created for fans of Progressive rock. It is a place to come to experience music that you have never heard before, or to find obscure songs. It would be hard to describe exactly how the community should work in one or two sentences, but the idea is that this should be a place where people who are interested in Prog rock can come to hear music that they might not have before, or that have heard but have been unable to find. We support bands here, not steal from them. What I mean by this is that the community will be used as a way to introduce people to bands/albums/songs, that they may have never heard before, so that they can go out and try and find them to buy. Sometimes in the world of music, it is impossible to find updated versions of the Progressive music that was first released in an older format, this music must either be listened to on the old format, or will be forgotten. We don't want that to happen here. Once you are positive, which in this case would mean that you asked the community and searched the internet for a new (CD) version of an album, you may request/reccomend it and depending on whether or not I agree, and under very special cirumstances (the band's people have been asked specifically whether or not they are bringing out an updated version of an album) it may be possible to reccomend/request a whole album. And while records may not have been updated into the most recent formats by their makers, people themselves have copied their records into digital audio format using their computers or a buisness that converts LP to mp3. Another thing that I'll impart, is that all music by one artist may not have ever been released on an album, any demo cuts, or live bootleg tracks will be totally acceptable from all bands, as they were never planning to make any money off of this stuff anyways.

The message that I'm trying to send here is that this community is meant to help bands, not hurt them, by introducing people to music that they wouldn't hear on the radio. This doesn't mean that popular bands should not be allowed to be uploaded, it just means that you should only upload a maximum of 3 songs (no whole albums) from one album (don't think that mean you can upload all of Close the Edge by Yes Just because its only 3 songs long.) Alright I think that everyone gets the idea, and if they don't they can ask me any questions personally at my journal. Or my email Unfetteredbeing@hotmail.com, and if I'm slow to respond, you could direct questions to the other mod [info]matt100fly and he'll more than likely help you.

On to the rules in a simple form
1. No sharing of full albums
2. All members must reccomend one band for every request that they make
3. All requests/reccomendations should follow the format provided below
4. Although it is impossible to stop people from downloading the tracks that someone uploads for one person's request, I ask that you do not download a song unless you have also never heard the band, and that you mention that you also downloaded the song.
5. Keep all posts Prog rock related, if you want to share or talk about other genres of music, there are many other sharing and music related communites on LJ.
6. You do not have to post a link to a song when you reccommend something, but should upload something if someone is interested (this cuts down on pointless uploading.)
7. Not all posts have to contain requests or reccomendations, posts can also retain to asking for help in finding out who certain artists are, or where you could find a certain band's work.
8. No flaming anyone else's musical tastes, try to be civil and kind.
9. Suggestions would be appreicated, this community is in it's infancy, and is still quite flexible. This community was created for you the Prog rock fan, so it should be tailored to what you want as well. If anyone has any ideas for how the community should work, or anything new that we could be doing, just make a post asking me and the rest of the members what they think about your idea.
10. Don't be afraid to ask, if you see someone talking about a band you've never heard of, feel free to ask them for a track, its up to them whether or not they give you one to sample the music of that particular band, but hopefully we'll be able to keep the idea of share and share alike alive here.
11. These rules are subject to change at any time.
12. Have fun and may your knowledge of Progressive rock grow and grow.

(Fields with *'s are manditory, the others would be helpful but are not needed)

And an example of a proper request:

*Song Name:
*Artist:
Album:
Year:
Comments:
Just to clarify, all requests for specific songs must include at least one recommendation, but does not need to have a link to the song at the time. Vague requests are alright, although will be harder to fill, so do not be dissapointed if they do not get filled, you can always request something again at a later time (try not to more than once avery few weeks for the same song.)

To upload a song, I will suggest that you use www.yousendit.com, although you could use any file transfer website. You can find some info about LJ cuts here http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=75

This whole section is new and has only been edited by me only, meaning that I have probably missed some spelling mistakes and may have made some of the rules unclear, if I have, I would appreicate if you replied in my first post about them and I will get around to changing them.
