My video game groove, that is. I swear, I don't think I'd touched a video game in over a month, despite sometimes wanting to play them. I'd maybe sorta want to play them, but then think, "Meh, what's the point, I've got other stuff I may as well do instead," and then not do anything. I hadn't even played Yggdrasil in all that time!

Two days ago I started wanting to replay FFVII for the umpteenth time.

Last night, I restarted Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. Cut for story spoilers. )

And I know I've said it before, but it warrants being said again. I love the way Laharl calls himself "ore-sama" when you've got the Japanese language track on. Which I do. Because I'm a geek.

kakorrhaphio @ 9:56pm: It's really quite sick, when I think about it, how much of an eating machine I am. I can probably eat non-stop, all day.

Luckily, I have somehow managed to keep my weight at a constant, healthy level *touchwood*, but I would like to tighten things up and control myself a bit, despite the fact that I do sometimes pride myself in being a big eater.

So, this is what I propose:

Everyday, I will drink soup for lunch and eat vegetables for supper (withOUT the breads, etc). Include fruit in all meals.
At least 3 times a week, I will try and fit exercising into my schedule. I used to work out everyday, but I have no time since I moved on campus.
I WILL NOT BINGE ON THE WEEKENDS.

I will try and keep this up for 2 months.

STARTING TOMORROW.
pirate_lass @ 10:37pm: "It'll never be us, will it?"
I have a quote or a scene or something sort of stuck in my head. Except I'm not sure where it's from-- a movie, a book, a TV show... anyway, it's annoying.

So anyway, I've been consuming media like the fanwhore I am. All the latest Heroes, Pushing Daisies, The Office, Sanctuary reboot, No Heroics... and just to mix things up a little, both seasons of Green Wing and the book Red Mars.

Last night after work I helped Jessica decode a bit of a research article, and then we went to T.G.I.Friday's where we ate chicken, quesadillas, fried green beans, and stared at a wedding chapel rotunda while talking about everything under the sun while one of the girls from Butterfly class occasionally ran by our table. I offered to help her with the article again tomorrow, but we haven't set anything up yet. I meant to go to Kyobo today but sat around consuming the aforementioned bits of media instead.

And eating Halloween Oreos. 'Cause Mom sent me a package this past week, a package with Halloween decorations and socks and 20 packs of Smores Pop-Tarts and two shirts-- a halloweeney one with skeltal butterflies and this one from woot.com. Which I am wearing now.

There is a distinct lack of halloween stuff in this country. Still dunno what I'm going to dress as... buying a not-crap costume costs at least 100,000 Won, though they can be rented for less than 50,000. These are the exact same costumes, packaging and all, that can be bought in the States for $30. And of course there are no thrift stores or fabric/pattern supply places and augh augh augh augh frustration. I don't remember the last time I bought a halloween costume. Pity there are no good mummy outfits anywhere, in Korean or English.

Goodness...there's been so many great ones, it's hard to choose one.
april_violent @ 10:17pm: Dilemma.
I don't know what to do. My formal is near, I've got the dress I want and the shoes I want and I have a good idea of what it is all together I aim to have. My sister makes jewellery and she said she wanted to make me a a necklace and earrings and bracelet set. Ok, all is great. Problem is she showed me and I don't really like it... :\ But I don't know how to tell her, it doesn't really suit my outfit at all, I'm going for a vintage, floral and dainty look and she's made something really mod looking. I know I should be grateful and all but... I had planned something completely else in mind, I need pearls and glass beads with pretty floral enamel.

I tell my Mum how I feel and she decides to go berserk, saying that I should have said something earlier from the start, that I should have told her what I wanted. Yet, I assumed it was a gift because my sister just got straight into it after saying she'd love to design my formal jewellery. So I thought being all judgemental and critical on a gift is a bit mean. When she showed me I didn't know how to react, I didn't want to hurt her feelings. The jewellery wasn't to my taste at all.

Then today she comes over with these beautiful kimono patterned enamel beads with gold accents, it was perfect! And they would go well with pearls and anything to do with my outfit, I was so excited, I thought it was for my formal necklace! But it turned out she was just showing us the latest bead shopping she was doing. I felt crushed :(

I don't know, should I have said something? I'm not really THAT close with my sister as siblings usually are, there is an 18 year gap between us and I still don't think I could ever do something like fart/burp in front of her or take her stuff (or whatever it is siblings usually do) So I feel awkward being too comfortable and honest with her, I treat her like a special friend not family (not that I want to). Is it my fault?
f1fandiary @ 12:12pm: Land of the rising sun...

Qually today was not that great to watch especially when you have to watch at 6 in the morning. Not much out of the ordinary did happen expect Quick Nick was not that  quick and had to start in 16th place after he moaned about having problems with setting the car right…I am sure that several other drivers did had the same problems but they did cope with the problem! Kimi actually came alive in part 3 of Qually and almost got pole but had to settle for 2nd behind Boy Blunder who much be happy especially when Massa the only driver who can take that title away from him only started in 5th place. Fred did rather good but had a scare during the 2nd part of Qually when he seemed to be coming into the pits but at the very last minute decide to stay out and finished the lap he was doing. I am going to add that I am happy that Toyota did not decide to put Glock to a glory run and settle for 8th with Jarno the other driver for Toyota in 7th. Kuba yet again had a good final part and will start 5th and the Toro Rossos completed the top ten, Sebastian Vettel beating Sebastien Bourdais to ninth by half a second.

Four ships you never liked

11. FOREMAN/THIRTEEN (House) (ZOMG, gouge my eyes out with an open ended pepper spray bottle)
12. Meredith/Derek (Grey's Anatomy) (Just because that's basically what the show is about doesn't mean it should be.)

Two ships you're curious about, but don’t actually ship
14. House/Wilson (House)
15. Cameron/Thirteen (House) (It seems to be the new House/Wilson, ever since she was outed as being bisexual, she's had more luck with girls than guys.)

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/10/10/125151/87/93/626397">How one woman reacted to protestors outside her local Planned Parenthood. Aww... That makes me all warm and fuzzy.

Preterm, the clinic I'll be at later this morning, runs a Pledge-a-Picketer campaign. It's a tactic I'm really fond of -- turns the antis activities back on them, without running up against the fine lines on freedom of expression. It's also been used to good effect by GLBT centers targeted by Phelps and his lot.

Oy. It's 5:30am. I've been up since about 4, and I really need to get back to sleep for a bit before I have to be at the clinic at 7:45. I'm with Casey today, though, which means a ride, and excellent company. And I'm at Preterm, not the Center, which means shade. Yay!

Dad's doing the phone upgrades for our family plan. I'm getting a Blackberry Curve! Yay!

This has been a week of sleep deprivation, brokeness, and medical worries, but it's actually been quite good all 'round. Lots of good company; [info]may_dryad, [info]syrinx_77, Casey, Bill, [info]calebbullen, our couchsurfer Libby. Other than hanging out, I've been utterly sucked into the election; it's been a fascinating week, and I've acknowledged that my interest in what's going on is really approaching sports fan level -- aside from all the really important stuff, the little trivialities of who's "scoring points", who's on the injured list, etc, etc... It's all really entertaining me (of course, it's a lot easier to enjoy that element when things are looking good for the eventual outcome).

I'm waiting on a puzzle from eBay -- finished the dragon a few days back, although I haven't pulled it off the porta-puzzle yet. I'm semi-seriously considering getting a pizza spatula, or whatever it's called, to make that easier. Too many of the puzzles I do have odd-shaped pieces and don't hold together remarkably well.

Currently reading Your Inner Fish, which is quick and short, but remarkably full of fascinating ideas and info; I'm enjoying it immensely. Actually originally heard about it due to The Colbert Report -- the author did a remarkably good and funny job holding his own against Colbert while explaining some relatively complex concepts.

Also, the house is clean, Caleb moves in this weekend, I have Netflix coming, and a giant stack of fascinating library books to work through. I also have three books I set aside at Visible Voice, although I can't collect those 'til payday next week.

Oh, and lemon bars from Civ. Yum. Have two more in the fridge.

OK, going to try to get an hour nap before Casey gets here.

holy crap this almost makes me feel intense pity for McCain.  He seems such a shrunken, sallow version of his former self these days, but in this clip, the man that I actually used to have respect for peeks through. It's almost as if you can tell the Republican hacks that run his party force him to campaign in the negative manner that we have been seeing simply to play to his base as they fear the whole bottom of his campaign is about to drop out.

Kiah lent me her copy of Wanted.

It's amazing. Violent and a little bit predictable and the character development was slightly cliche, but he was refreshingly idiotic when it came to advancing the story/his knowledge, and there were some twists I did not expect. And Angelina Jolie got to sit around looking hot basically the entire movie. She definitely impressed me with her range of facial expressions/body language. I actually laughed more at her nonchalance than other times. Morgan Freeman is in it as well. That should seal the deal.

Sam invited me to the LSU Women's soccer game. EAT IT AUBURN, 2-1 in OVERTIME, BITCHES. Tigers (the correct ones) came from behind and tied it up, then when it had to go into over time... It took them twenty-six seconds to score.

Anyway. So then Sam decides it'd be a good time for a movie. Consider that it is around 9:00, 9:30. He crazy-drives us over the close movie theater, we get tickets and fly over to Izzo's, apparently an acceptable substitute for Freebirds. Sam is one of those people. You know who I'm talking about.

The type that thinks Chipotle is bad.

I almost dissolved our friendship then and there, but we worked through the pain.

Eagle Eye.

Many things to be said, of them, HOLY FUCK, HOLY SHIT, AND OMFG CAN THEY REALLY DO THAT?! Another fairly violent, action-packed, star-studded (YAY ROSARIO DAWSON, ILU) movie with twists-- though I should have expected it, I didn't. And then there was still a lot of movie to go. Shia LeBeouf could qualify as Bashir, for those of you who know what I'm talking about. I was watching him, and he could do it, I think. Perhaps there is hope for me yet. I mean, he could do a David Tennant thing with his hair, that would suffice for me.

Last but not least, the How To Guide on Surviving Without Oxygen, AKA, I Am Out Of Allergy Medicine And Seriously About To Die.

It involves a lot of breathing through the mouth, having a constant  tissue supply, the sneezes that hurt, and whining for your mommy a lot.

You're laughing, but I'm serious. If it wasn't so late, I would call my mom and tell her I want her to make it better. 'Cause I do.

Damn countdown to ... Thanksgiving. I... breathing hurts. OW. s;afajsdfwekrah;g

I can't even talk.

In other news, Annapolis is a good movie too. This side of trite, but cute in some places, and due to JAG I have a soft spot for anything military now. I wish we weren't at war, because I would seriously be learning on the government's dime in the NAVY or Air Force or something. Kinda wanna make dad proud, y'know? (Former Air Force man.) But I also don't wanna die! So... that's that.

Obviously my last-ditch cocktail of Ibprofuen and the singular Wal-Dryl I could find are influencing my brain. Slash words. I need sleep. Mmmmm, glorious sleep. No one had better wake me up tomorrow.

OH DID I MENTION I WAS SORE EVERYWHERE FROM SOCCER? YEAH, ASK LIZ, STAIRS HURT.

nadinejc @ 12:10am: Thanks 4 Giving
Okay, it's official. I go to THE BEST high school in the province.

Thursday was the 16th annual Thanks 4 Giving (not to be confused with Thanks Giving), a canned food drive that my school has been doing since around 1992. Irt's a HUGE event; we canvass our entire town. Every single door is knocked on.

Typically, it needs a lot of preparation. For the past few weeks I've been part of the organizing committee, which does everything from inviting dignitaries to putting up flyers and posters to ordering snacks and ribbons to finding over 500 cardboard boxes. I'm continually amazed that we actually managed to pull it off.

Not only did we pull it off, but it was a huge success; we collected 16,220 cans and other "non-perishable food items" for two food banks. That's not a typo. Every year, since the very beginning, our tiny little school (only about 600 students!) has managed to collect over 10,000 cans. This year, however, we set a record. The previous one was a bit over 14,000.

The best part, though, is that we have tons of fun doing it.

Nearly the whole school participates - this year we got 74%.

We hear the funniest stories from other canvassers. One of my friends knocked on the door of an Indian man who didn't speak any English. They started their speech, only to have the man shout "I know nothing!" and slam the door in their faces. Immediately afterwards, the house went completely dark.

When we get back, we get free donuts and pop, which gives everyone this insane sugar high so everyone is extremely hyper. There are also prize draws; this year, people won either 4 tickets to the omnimax (this huge imax theatre at Science World) or tickets to the BC Lions game (football).

Anyway. We get to hang around for an hour or so while they finish counting the cans, and that's the best part. There's this crazy party atmosphere, and everyone's taking photos with this scarecrow guy on a pile of hay bales which is so totally ridiculous that it's just amazing. The entire school is open, so people are running around the hallways and teachers are totally relaxed and it's awesome. I love Thanks 4 Giving.

I was almost devestated when it was time to go home. I am seriously already looking forward to next year.
