| Tonight, coming home from Jared's birthday party atop that windy windy mountain, I was so happy to see Orion to my left and a harvest moon sinking slowly to my right. I think the best part of country life is the view, and I'm grateful to see it.
I'm also grateful to the strapping men who helped me get my car out of the driveway- my spatial relations skills, when combined with my 93 caprice, are not so stellar. Thanks to Brian, Archie, McDougal, Josh, anyone else and Beefy-EMT-who-is-getting-married-Sunday-and-whose-name-I-never-caught.
It was good to party like a rockstar.
Jro, I hope you have a fantastic year! Rock on with your bad self. (My people.) | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |

Obama predicted this. He knew it would come to this. Perhaps McCain himself didn't; judging by his actions recently, it seems like he's as surprised by what's happening at his rallies as everyone else is. But as the campaign winds down; as his constituency gets more desperate; and as the possibility of a Barack Obama presidency becomes more REAL every day, Obama's opponents are revealing their true motivations. They are becoming a racist lynch mob. Every day the code words and proxies that the Republicans use become less and less oblique. At this point, these people might as well drop the pretense of civility altogether and just admit that they want to kill the scary black man for being uppity enough to think he deserves to be president.
(Apologies for the incoherent ranting; It's 3am and I'm really pissed off by this B.S.)

| ...seriously, where am I going to get my rewfles come November?
(taken from Five Thirty Eight)
On a day when the Dow plunged another 678 points, we had the opportunity to cross paths with another Barack Obama rally and another Sarah Palin rally here in west-central Ohio. Obama did five rallies here in two days: Dayton, Cincinnati, Portsmouth, Chillicothe, and Columbus, while Palin did events in Wilmington (home of the DHL plant closing that David Plouffe promised to highlight in local radio ads) and Cleveland. The events were a study in contrasts.Barack Obama spoke to a crowd of approximately 8,500 in Dayton's Fifth Third (Eighth?) Field for 40 minutes, and immediately launched into a detailed discussion of the economy. Titled the "American Jobs Tour Rally," Obama managed the subtle stagecraft of physically morphing from a suit-coated politician to a coatless, sleeves-rolled-up problem-solver. Palin's rally featured the more impressive entrance, with giant video screens showing the crowd the slowly turning campaign bus as it approached the cavernous inside venue. Finally, the fog machines hit high blast, the huge blue curtain parted, and the bus drove right inside the hall. As "Eye of the Tiger" blasted over the loudspeakers, Palin bounded on stage to a full-throated roar. It was some pretty sweet stagecraft, (even if had Obama tried it he'd have been ridiculed for behaving as a "celebrity").

| Happy News for Gays in Connecticut! Connecticut Ruling Overturns Ban on Same-Sex Marriage By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Filed at 12:01 p.m. ET
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Connecticut's Supreme Court ruled Friday that same-sex couples have the right to marry, making the state the third behind Massachusetts and California to legalize such unions.
The divided court ruled 4-3 that gay and lesbian couples cannot be denied the freedom to marry under the state constitution, and Connecticut's civil unions law does not provide those couples with the same rights as heterosexual couples.
"I can't believe it. We're thrilled, we're absolutely overjoyed. We're finally going to be able, after 33 years, to get married," said Janet Peck of Colchester, who was a plaintiff with her partner, Carole Conklin.
Connecticut will join Massachusetts and California as the only state to allow same-sex couples to marry.
"Interpreting our state constitutional provisions in accordance with firmly established equal protection principles leads inevitably to the conclusion that gay persons are entitled to marry the otherwise qualified same sex partner of their choice," Justice Richard N. Palmer wrote in the majority opinion that overturned a lower court finding.
"To decide otherwise would require us to apply one set of constitutional principles to gay persons and another to all others," Palmer wrote.
Gov. M. Jodi Rell said Friday that she disagreed, but will not fight the ruling.
"The Supreme Court has spoken," Rell said in a statement. "I do not believe their voice reflects the majority of the people of Connecticut. However, I am also firmly convinced that attempts to reverse this decision -- either legislatively or by amending the state Constitution -- will not meet with success."
The lawsuit was brought in 2004 after eight same-sex couples were denied marriage licenses and sued, saying their constitutional rights to equal protection and due process were violated.
They said the state's marriage law, if applied only to heterosexual couples, denied them of the financial, social and emotional benefits of marriage.
Peck said that as soon as the decision was announced, the couple started crying and hugging while juggling excited phone calls from her brother and other friends and family.
"We've always dreamed of being married," she said. "Even though we were lesbians and didn't know if that would ever come true, we always dreamed of it." | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |

| My darling M leaves for Rota, Spain in the morning. A two- week business trip. Unfortunately, he will be missing my birthday celebration.
I'm thinking of planning something for the evening of October 19th, the eve of my birthday. It is a Sunday, and I'm not sure who is around. We could meet for dinner, maybe even have dancing?
But on October 20th, the day of my actual birth, I fully intend to go sky-diving. I'm planning to go to The Ranch, near New Paltz (www.skydivetheranch.com). It's $195 and not cheap, but I think it'd be an amazing adventure and a good start to the year.
Afterwards, we could proceed to a local restaurant for some good grub- and any Monday-night-free people could come and join.

| | The best part of today happened in the early morning hours, when I crept into our completely dark bedroom and slipped into bed, next to my lover. And as I curled my body around his, I could hear his breath. It was like a signature, he was deep in sleep and the patterns of his breath were uniquely his. I could hear everything I loved about him in the tempo of his exhalations, the cadences, the key changes. It was absolutely beautiful. I lay awake and listened, so happy and grateful at three am. | comments: 4 comments or Leave a comment |
| Today was somewhat of a trying day. And then, drinking at a party in a kitchen where I've been before, I realized: that I am really happy where I am.
And I'm on the road to find out where I'd like to be.
Amen. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
