On hiatus until May
yes, you saw that right .

the decision was announced this morning Fox to not air the remaining nine eps until after 24 is over, which means that it will could back sometime in May and continue into the summer.

Now before anyone freaks out, there's some things to consider.

1. 24 was promised that slot back last spring. so we knew there was a strong chance that if Prison Break was a success, there would be this hiatus

2. the only possible slot they could move it to without hacking up their schedule (which no network is going to do at this point in the year) is across from Lost, Criminal Minds and Veronica Mars. Yes there might be some ratings degradation with the hiatus, but going up against 3 strong shows has an equal if not greater risk.

3. not moving the show to 8pm gives the writers more latitude to make the show as violent etc as it needs to be to maintain some realism.

4. by waiting until May, they can run new eps in the summer when everyone else is in repeats. plus they have tons of time to run repeats etc on FX, send the gang on talk shows and to magazines and all that stuff to keep them in the viewers minds.

5. Winter in Chicago can be bitter cold, very windy, often raining and/or snowing. and the show is supposed to be late april/early may. that means they will be running around in t-shirts etc and no jackets. I've done that kind of game before. it's miserable, especially since you tend to get sick easier during colder weather. imagine those poor guys and gals sick and having to fake that it's nice, sunny, warm weather when it's way not. no thanks.

in the end, the decision is actually a sound one. Especially since Fox knows what a hit they have and they will do what they need to keep the fever alive until May

That's pretty annoying. But I guess it makes sense.

Well that sucks, seeing as how 24 isn't a good show at all. I mean how many times can one man save the world before it gets old?

They're going to lose a lot of fans this way, people are busy in the summer months. They stay in during the winter because it's so cold.

I live in Chicago and all the other shows here never had an issues with filiming in the winter. That's what makes Chicago...Chicago.

Man I hope something or someone changes Fox' minf because seriously this could mean doom for our loved show.

Will tonights episode even air?

you might not like 24 (I don't really either) but it does get ratings.

also, most shows aren't on a timetable like Prison Break. they do okay filming all year around because they can have winter when it's winter just fine. Prison Break can't. it's established that it's spring already.

also, yes all the eps will air through November

(and while some folks are saying that the delay could be doom, so could shoehorning the show into a slot with competition, especially if it was Wednesday)

so when does it stop airing?
will tonights be on?

it all makes sense, like the reasons why
but it still sucks, and they will probably lose some viewers since summer is more busy

but thanks for this post, and informing us <3

funny thing about summer. several nets started brand new shows in the summer and the ratings were really good. just as good as if they had been on in the regular season. disproving the notion that folks aren't watching tv in the summer. if it's a good show, they will be there watching. and Prison break is definitely a good show.

My opinion is that FOX should air Prison Break and 24 back-to-back. I'm a HUGE fan of both shows and by airing them on the same night, they would attract tons of viewers for both shows in terms of lead-ins and whatnot.

Personally, I am annoyed at the PB hiatus but I've gotten pretty used to it with 24's 7-month long hiatuses. If the cliffhanger is shocking and they're able to generate buzz in May, I doubt they would lose too many viewers.

Ditto everything you're saying :) If 24 and PB were back to back that would rock my world :) Only now they're airing 24 and House back to back, and while that doesn't make as much sense, I've been an avid House fan longer than 24 and PB... My personal wish would be House at 8pm, 24 at 9pm, and PB at 10pm. A perfect night :) What's even on at 10pm on FOX? Whatever it is they can move it, because it can't be as cool as Prison Break.

Course, on the flip side...such a long hiatus means the cast won't be in Chicago, they'll be in LA. So I have a much better chance of bumping into them on the street ;) j/k.

yep that is part of the problem. they only have 3 hours of programming anyway. 7 pm is way too early for a show like PB, 8pm could work but it does crimp just how far the writers can go if they need to. 9pm is perfect. but there's only one 9pm slot open without serious rearranging and it's a death slot.

the key to all of this is have them on tape, watch the casts old stuff, interviews, google for interviews and drag in as many friends as you can and get them obsessed before May.

Ah...news. They should move it to 11pm, just that one night. That'd show the public that FOX really believes in PB! And it would make this comm very very happy...

wow that is a bit of a downer.. I am totally obsessed with "24" so I will be happy that it comes back, but to think of no "Prison Break" till May really sucks because I am just as obsessed with that.. I think putting them back to back would be amazing, but I am also a huge "House" fan and then they would have to find a place for "House" after it moves to its new slot (before 24)..Fox is not used to having so many hit shows and I guess they don't really have any other options.. the plus side.. new episodes during the summer..

you got it. there's no good slot to put PB into unless they hack up their schedule, which they aren't going to do (might as well count on Lincoln getting clemency from the Governor)

"Fox is not used to having so many hit shows "

Haha - I love it :) It's totally true, too. The past few years have been the first that the Simpsons can't make fun of their own network. Because FOX has actually gotten (dare I say it???) good. :)

I'm used to this sort of thing because the Sci Fi Friday shows have a really long hiatus mid-season, but that doesn't mean I'm happy about it. Most of Fox's shows are utter crap in my opinion, so it really chaps my hindquarters that they're continuing to show them while shunting PB into a mid-season hiatus.

They should cut out seinfeld reruns and put pb in at 10 o clock instead of the news (it's late enough to still have realistic violence) and then nightly news at 11 (real real violence).... thats my 2 cents.

oh well like my thoughts are worth a damn (much like fox haha)

maybe they can just have everyone from prison break audition for American Idol

T Bag could sing American Woman...

People who are saying that FOX should just move 24 are craaazy. Granted, I'm not the biggest 24 fan in the world, but the day FOX moves 24 for Prison Break is the day Wentworth Miller's child pops out of my uterus.

That said, I'm grateful that they're doing this rather than starting it up again in January, but on Fridays at 9 pm.

This way it's like having Season 1 and Season 1.5.

it's possible. they could do that during the friday slot or even Houses old slot if there's nothing going on there. it would be a great way to keep folks fresh on what was going on. i'm sure they have considered things like that.

I think it won't because of the violent nature of the show. I wonder if they could take over the 9 pm Thursday slot, if Reunion doesn't get picked up for a full season? It's a thought.

People should realize that before it got picked up for a full season it was only going to be the 13 eps.
But my question is, does that mean we have to wait for the season finale?
Or is there gonna be like a mini one wtf???fgdiughdfiughuyvghjfhj

there is a very good chance that we will get a cliffhanger ending to the 13th ep. something to hold us wanting more until May.

likely the same ending they were planning all along (when the hiatus was the typical 4-6 weeks).

and if my info is correct and my guess is correct, it's going to be a major WTF cliffhanger that will have folks talking and ficcing for weeks

maybe, maybe not. there are clues that the big day is getting close so the cliffhanger is likely to be something major tied to the break out. could be the break out, could be something connected to how they will get Lincoln when the time comes. could be Sara telling Michael she knows what's going on. Or Bellick figuring it out.

we'll have to see.

1. it's not final. there is the chance that one of the other hour longs will not be renewed.

2. yes it sucks because fans want the show NOW. but what is better, waiting until May and perhaps getting another marathon or two on FX and then the new eps through the summer when nothing else new is on. or shoehorning the show into a terrible slot like against Wednesday's ratings Troika or the Friday Fox Death Slot and the rating bottom out and the show doesn't come back next season. I'll take the wait. because with proper hype etc, the fans will come back. they will be turning on the tv every Monday just enough to see if it's still 24 or is it Prison Break. they will be counting down to the return. they will be talking about the evitable cliffhanger at the end of this month, etc. and that's better than "should I watch Lost or Veronica Mars or Prison Break" or "it's friday, let's go out. I can take Prison Break" (remember taped shows aren't counted by the ratings so if a Nielsen tapes the show, that's like 1.2 million viewers gone from the numbers)
