ThWAP in the summer

Today was rather nice. Val and Matt came over and took me out to Butterfield farms and we got some fresh vegies. After that we went over to Caedmon's place where he was hosting ThWAP (Thrown Weapons and Archery Practice) and an grill party. I brought some meatless hot dogs which turned out really well on the grill. Caedmon tried on of my hot dogs and liked it well enough. There were a few other people there already, one was a archary marshall and the other was a very nice talkive woman with two little dogs. I got some good advice from the archary marshall and tried atlatl, which is a spear throwing acessory that looks like an 'L'. I got a few on the target but no where near the center. I got 5 out of 6 arrows on the 10 meter archary target but when I got to the 15 meter, I could only get 3 out of 6 on target, if that even. I did get one in the center on the 15 meter, but it was a freak shot.
Got back, made some dinner, played some Animal Crossing. Lately I've been changing the clock a lot on that game in order to get more stuff and speed up the game play. It's a bit annoying to keep having to go in and out of the game, but it's the only way to do it.
Tobi left to go back to Sandusky to get a new laptop with his family and Erick is down in Kentucky with some friends. I have the whole apartment to myself. It's kind of exciting. I don't know what to do with myself. I can be as loud and obnoxious as I want.

Writing.

Prompt Fanfic: Sorry guys, I'm a slooooooow writer. :( I should almost definitely have one or two of them finished by the end of summer, but I have no guarantees (especially since every time I set a deadline for myself I usually end up breaking it). The A/Meg and the Hei/Misaki (which I thought I would finish a few weeks ago but hit a snag...) will be fastest. Probably.

(one of the problems is, the longer I take, the more guilty I feel, and the more I feel like I have to up the quality to make up for it... XP)

- - -

Original stuff:

After a lot of angsting over my latest project* (and a lot of rewriting), I've finally dashed out a more-or-less satisfactory version of the first chapter. Though it still needs a bit of work, I think I finally have a handle on the direction. Always the most frustrating part about starting a new project. I originally thought this was a "new" world, but to make things easier for myself (I HATE WORLD-BUILDING), I'm probably going to tie it in with the wuxia project... but have them be on different continents. I mean, it's not like I'm all that creative when it comes to magic systems. I don't even really *have* magic in my stories (what little there is, isn't very systematic, ehehe). And outside of that, I think the two universes are fairly compatible.... in that they both sport a weird-ass mix of Asian and European influences.

* Not the weird post-apocalyptic fantasy cyberpunk one I posted back in February. I still have no idea if I'm going to do anything with that.

Speaking of the wuxia project, I just went back to reread Version 4 (or so) of my first chapter for the "Ghost Tiger" thing, which also took me a few months of angsting and rewriting, and was surprised to realize that.... it works. It really works! Hurray! There's only maybe one or two places where I think the pacing is a teensy bit off, but in terms of setting the mood, introducing the characters/world, emotion... It works!

Meaning I can finally move on. -_- But damned if I can remember wtf is supposed to happen next. (Actually, I do. I just need to see if I can decipher the scraps remaining from my previous drafts as well as the random filedump of notes.)

I've found that my methodology in terms of approaching my writing is often rather unorthodox and horrendously INEFFICIENT. I'm trying to train myself into working more efficiently, but apparently this is just the way I work. -_- This has been an ongoing process for the last few years. I'm not giving up though. I mean seriously, at this rate, HOW MANY MORE YEARS is it going to take before I even finish a single draft of ANYTHING?

I really probably should start on my homework, but I'll go back to poking at stuff. I think I'm ready to start tackling Ghost Tiger again, and I also want to see how far I can get with the new thing, which is currently not really labeled as anything other than "sunmoon".

- - -

Oh yeah, and here, have a poem translation dump. These are first draft, so unlocked, though their quality is higher than my previous first drafts thanks to my mom's help. All Du Fu, and I really like these -- probably my favorites that I've done so far, since they're so personal (especially compared to the earliest Zhang Jiuling quartet, which were just kind of purposely vague and annoying to translate). And now you will see what I meant about the slashy subtext that I mentioned last time.

just wait until the sun goes down

So. Yesterday. Did not end up going to Battleship Texas. After waiting for the banks to open so we could make a few deposits Dad and I decided we'd save the battleship for next weekend when my brother is home. So after waking up my sister (through means of a very annoying message on the answering machine) we changed out plans to the Holocaust Museum and the Funeral Museum, since it's not too far from us. Except the Funeral Museum didn't open until noon. :/ Well pooh, it was 10. So we headed to the Museum District. >> And the Holocaust Museum didn't open until noon either. So we ended up going to the Health Museum.

That was a fun museum. The exhibits were informative but not too complicated and despite a few things being broken (WOE there was a microscope where you could look at particles in urine and I love microscopes) it was utterly fantastic. Spent about three hours there. Best part was probably the cow eye dissection. Yes, cow eye dissection. The vitreous humor was cool. :/ I want that job. Stand in front of people and dissect stuff while making it entertaining for kids? Yes please. lol~ The lady gave us about three or four "if you're going to vomit the door is there and there" warnings. A few people actually did leave though I don't know if it's because they were royally grossed out or what xD

Another thing I really liked were the brain teasers in the lobby. Talk about blast from the past. I remember seeing a lot of them on television when I was little, though I can't remember which shows (either Bill Nye the Science Guy or Beakman's World). There was also a Soma cube which made me squee. My dad had a blue plastic one that my brother and I loved to play with one when we were younger. I think my brother has it now. There was also the balancing nails one, where you balance 14 nails on the head of one nail. There was also a Lover's Yoke puzzle, where the objective is to go from this to this without untying the string.

Anyway~ oodles of fun. We went to Burger King afterwards for lunch. Sister got her usual Whopper, Dad tried the Steakhouse burger (wasn't impressed), and I got the BK stacker. :| Finally found a sandwich that's just the right size to allow me to not only finish my fries but also my drink as well. So, everything was all fine and dandy until we went to wash our hands. :| Not only were the bathroom doors locked, you had to get a token from the cashier to get it. Okay, I can understand the logic of this, especially since this was downtown. But this was seriously the first time I've seen a bathroom with a token lock.

When we got back home, we stopped to check out Steve & Barry's. 'Cause the store has been there for months, and we hadn't once gone inside to look around. First glance, it doesn't look too bad, especially once you realize pretty much everything in there is marked $8.98. Jeans, khakis, blouses, graphic tees, shoes, all of it $8.98. Even better were the sizes. They carry short length jeans. Short length that wasn't still long on me.

I quickly grab a couple styles of jeans and head to the dressing rooms. Good news? The sizes were 2 down from department, yay ego stroke I didn't even need. Bad news? The jeans were made for women with no ass. I had about four inches of gap on the waist. No belt can fix that. An otherwise perfect pair of jeans down the drain. I was put out. The shirt and blouses look nice though, so I'll probably get some of those before fall starts.

Okay, enough about me. Here's my tldr; about this week's Geass.

ARGH. Way to let me down Sunrise.

spoilers for Code Geass R2 15 )

ALSO~ ♥s to [info]ryanitenebrae for telling me about Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog~ I'm loooving it~

Fenrir and Irk

First thing I'd like to say is that I'm on Loki.

Because Dad put a trojan on my poor Fenrir.

Yeah.

While I was eating breakfast I asked if I could have a copy of Nero, the disk burning software, and he said that he just downloaded the latest one and that he'd go install it real fast. Well... I went upstairs to find him still on my computer with my antivirus bells going off on Fenrir. I just told him that any trace of the trojan had better be gone by the time I got home from iaido. Well, I'm hope from iaido and it's still quite there (Dad had to go to work, but he'll be back later) so I'm on my laptop, Loki. He'd better get the thing off because I don't want to reformat.

The other, more cheerful news is that Emily-sensei's husband wanted a Pleo and they got one. She brought it in to say "Hi" to everyone in the dojo at the end of class today. It's so cute! It's name Irk, which may or may not be spelled right, and sensei said she wasn't sure if her husband had decided it was a she, he, or it, so for the time being I'm using a neutral it.

Irk and me! )

Anyway, it walked forward and backward, sung, played tug, and checked us out. It's so freakin' cute. ♥

Also, some of ya'll may have noticed [info]emukatze latest obsession with the Nendoroid figure line. I decided to look at Max Factory's stuff and discovered, well, their Figma line. I ordered a Saber. Review of it can be found here.

Re: Turn 15 AKA I seriously think Taniguichi had a baaaad breakup when he was younger

Quick note before I get back to room cleaning. I did accomplish the shopping though.

Geass, you are losing so many cool points with me by abusing your girls. Stop doing it. It's not cool. I love your girls; it's one of the reasons I gave this show extra props in S1. Kick-ass girls. Stop with your gay lovefest and remember you are writing for CHARACTERS. Not plot. Not fanservice. Not mecha. Characters. It's what sells you; it's what makes you stand out. Now stop the "fridging" before I come over there and slap you.

Other than that, stuff I liked, stuff that was cool. All overshadowed by bad animation and BEING MEAN TO THE GIRLS.

Fandom Babbling

I am SO behind on friends list posts but I promise I will get to them soon. @_@

Really really want to listen to Dr. Horrible and love it, but now am seeing the Dr. Steel wank, and I love me some Dr. Steel, and I really hope they are not too similar in a disturbing plagiarism way because I really want to support an indie artist more. (Yeah, I know it's a trope, what I'm really praying is that it doesn't go beyond that.)

...AVATAR.

Cut for lots of capslocky spoilers over the last three days. )

- Now I want in on this fandom bad. I hate coming late to the party.

New York....

Yesterday I went to new york.
I got on the 6am flight out. We left 10 minutes early but got into New York 15 minutes late.
Met up with friends, went to Kinokuniya, reserved Ryuusei no Kizuna (even if that drama rumor isn't true, the book's premise sounds really interesting)
Karaoked for 5 hours.
Went back on the LIRR to Jamaica then jumped on the Airtrain to JFK.
I get to JFK at 6:20, my flight wasn't supposed to leave until 8:45, which was fine cause I knew this.
MY FLIGHT WAS DELAYED UNTIL 10PM.

I sat in that airport like this >:(

Then. The flight was delayed until 10:30 >:(

And then the plane gets here at 10:45.

We get on.

WE'RE SITTING IN THE RUNWAY FOR AN HOUR AND TEN MINUETS.

I didn't get to Florida till 2:30am.

I didn't get home till 3:30am.

adsgsa;kljsklgjsadggggggggggggggggggggg I missed Avatar finale. Now I gotta avoid my LJ like its a fucking plague.
