The actor that portrayed the Raven in ADV's dub of Princess Tutu, Mike Kleinhenz, died of a heart attack last week. I can't say he was my favorite in the dub, but he was still a great addition to the cast. It's sort of odd to think that I won't be hearing him in ADV's dubs anymore.

But...yeah, I figured it was relevant to the community and some of you might like to know.

Whoo...I've done some art over the course of...7 months? I think. And since I've finally come to the sad truth that I will never teach myself to color anytime soon so I can prettify most of them, I figure nows a good a time as any to post them! =D;; Some of these were presents for people ~~all of them horrendously late~~, and a lot of them are inspired by rping, but I hope you can decently enjoy them! ^^;;

Um, don't click if you have a problem with Fakir/Ahiru, Rue/~~Big Ass Bird~~ Mytho, Harry Potter Roleplay crack, and a lack of clothes here and there. Nothing over PG-13, imo, if even that. REALLY IMAGE HEAVY. And spoilers. Kinda. >>;; ~~And I ramble horribly.~~

Forewarning, I suck majorly at expressions. And none of these have real backgrounds. Joy!

Fiiiirst up is a random picture I drew ages ago and have more recently added lazy gradient coloring to! Behold my skillz. This is just a general transforming picture, from when she changes from a duck to a girl. I've always found that scene rather lovely (hence my terrible icon) and decided to attempt it. \o/

Next! Fakir and duck!Ahiru. :3 I also drew and posted this a long while ago, but this time I attempted color! And now you'll see why I didn't attempt it for any of the others! =D Yay!

If you've gotten this far, it gets better, I promise. D: Um. Random doodles ahead. The first is of Fakir...without a shirt...(and just now I realize I forgot the scar. >_>;;; I drew it in the library, I wasn't even thinking about it!)

Next to our failed knight is Rue/Big Ass Bird! This is from the scene in Akt 24 where Big Ass Bird!Mytho is dancing with Rue. Ironically, there's a lot I can't stand about that scene/character/pairing/everything but my pencil doesn't care, so neither should you! \o/ I don't think she's naked, but clothing didn't look right... D:

Now, I don't remember what I was TRYING to draw...but it ended up being Raven!Mytho...with a little sugar in his hips. >>;; Ignore it, and look at the badass raven instead. ;D Oh yeah, oh yeah~

This was a really, really late present to my friend Tory, or neko_no_hanashi for Christmas or her birthday or something, but most importantly, it's a profile picture of the character she plays, namely Rue (or hime_no_karasu ) over at sortinghat_rp. (We had most of the cast at some point or another, but currently we have Fakir, Ahiru, Rue, Lilie, Pique, and FEMIO~ ~~guess which two I play? =D~~) Anyway! Since its a profile picture, it's just a simple picture of her with a wand. She's a Slytherin. 8D I think I got the HP uniform a bit wrong but...THIS IS MAH HOUSE. >/ And she is also wearing a necklace that she showed up at her orphanage with that has two black ballet slippers and her real name (Kraehe) on it. But it's hidden by her tie. Rly. >>;;

Next! This...was actually kinda supposed to be a gift for someone for being in the Tutu fandom for a year (serika_san), but I didn't scan until...almost a year later, so...yeah. >>;; Anyway! This is Fakir (wizard_knight)'s profile picture ~~that I have yet to put up there~~ for the same comm...complete with matching glaring owl named Lohengrin. XD He is also a Slytherin. ~~And before anyone asks, I didn't choose his house, the people reading his application sorted him based on his HP!AU back story.~~

Thiiiis next one needs some explaining. 8D;; At Sorting Hat, there was an event where people's pets turned into humans, and by some great irony, Rue's cat Odile (human form here ~~and yes that's Sheeta from Castle in the Sky~~) and Lohengrin (human form here) were ~~total cuties~~ fond of each other, much to the distaste of their owners. 8D Thus, art. Another belated present for neko_no_hanashi~<3 ~~Ho snap, Fakir's hair can magically switch sides when he's freaked out!~~

Oh god, this thing doesn't end, does it? Randomly, I'm going to throw in a graphic I edited for a profile image for yet another rp, mukashixmukashi, where I play another AU Fakir (princeunchrming). Just because its sitting in my photobucket, looking at me like, "What about me? D:" and I don't want to leave it out. And yes, the 'heroic' text was intentional.

Annnnd, back to sorting hat! (Because SH Fakiru needs to be sequential >.>;;;) Both of these are dedicated to Manda, or serika_san who plays my loverly Ahiru (sonenschein). <3 Much love for you~ The first one was right after some...not good event, buuuuut...Fakir came to the rescue! \o/ And is wrapping her in a blanket ~~and not a BAG OF FAT, like my friend suggested >>;;~~ here. It was a very complicated scene with mixed emotions, hence ~~my attempts at~~ their expressions. In a sense, Ahiru is shaken because of what occurred, but she's grateful for him being there, while Fakir is glad to save her, but also feels symphathy and also guilt at a lot of things. Anyway. I tried to put a lot into this drawing. Tried, anyway. >_o *tosses at and hides*

And the final picture. ~~For the negative three people who have gotten this far.~~ This is Sorting Hat inspired, and also dedicated to Manda like the one above, buuuut, I'm not going to elaborate on the scene at all! =D I will, however, talk about the process. This picture is enormous. It was literally 2 huge pieces of paper with another piece on top. So it's three pieces of paper and had to be scanned in 4 parts and put together. It had at least 3 incarnations, because I originally just intended to do their hands, but it kept wanting MORE to be added. >_>;; Even though Fakir has no shirt on, ~~and they're sitting on a bed, omg,~~ the point of the picture was the feeling of it, the feeling of worries and doubts and uncertainty, but through all that...support. It was meant be somewhat intimate and...not exactly happy. Sorry about any anatomy issues or anything of the sort, I picked at it forever. >>;; This (and the Rue profile, and that bitch ass raven on Mytho's arm) is probably the only picture here that I find worth anything. <3 I really wish I knew how to color it, but I just don't have the skills or the time to develop them...8D;; Anyway!

i need some help regarding the characters' ages

I'm planning on writing a fanfiction, though I'm still not sure if i will still push through with it or not as I'm busy with college-related stuff... I can't recall if I've seen any earlier posts regarding their ages. and I really don't have the time to scan the old posts... can someone be kind enough to tell me the ages of the characters? Not just the main characters but the others such as autor, pike(?), lilie(?), rachel(?) etc. Er, make that the ages AND the official spelling of the character's names..... :O

We've justed started our latest contest for July, and appropriately it's a summer theme. That's right, folks, it's time for the swimsuit edition! Actually, it's more than just swimsuits, it's anything summer related. We're looking for art and fics for things you picture the PT cast doing for summer vacation: barbecues, the beach, amusement parks, whatever you want! So long as it's summer related, go for it!

Mandarin Chinese Dub?

I'm currently studying Mandarin Chinese and learning how to recognize, write (simplified), and speak it, so as much as I love Princess Tutu, I was wondering if there was a Mandarin Chinese dubbed version?

If so, where could I buy a copy? Or are there at least some videos I could look at it, preferably with subtitles of any kind - English, pinyin, characters, or a combination of those. I rewatch Princess Tutu a lot, so I figured watching the Mandarin version might help in my studies. :]

Okay, so for a performance internship I'm doing this summer, we have a character called the Keeper of Time who will have a bunch of video footage going behind him during his scene. I suggested we make the footage work kind of like Drosselmeyer's weird little domain, you know, where there are all those clock gears spinning around with images of what's going on showing through them? But I couldn't figure out how to explain it to the director so he asked me to bring in an example of what I meant tomorrow morning.

So which scene or episode would you guys say is the best example of that in Princess Tutu? Not necessarily the one with the most, but the one that shows that particular sort of storytelling device the most clearly. (Even just the episode is fine, I can find it within the episode but I definitely do NOT have time tonight to skim through the entire series to find an example scene!)

Red vs. Black: Rue and a reversal of "The Red Shoes" fairytale?

(To be honest, I wrote this up a long while ago and didn't have the chance to post it until now. XD;; )

"Girl dares to wear red shoes to church instead of black and is punished for her fashion sin with endless dancing until she chops off her feet." (A summary written by someone about the story of the section in interest.)

Alrighty, I knew about the red shoes bit, but the church part and instead of black shoes? I always heard it was a pair of enchanted (evil) red shoes, and she was an innocent victim. But apparently the original stories have her as someone who wasn't paying attention in church, for which she has to repent by cutting off her feet. (Which of course, reminds me of how intolerant and cruel all the original fairy tales were...)

Onto why this relates to Tutu. The Red Shoes is related in one of the episodes to the black shoes that Rue puts on. Note something: black shoes are the "pious" shoes in the original story, and the red shoes are the "sinful" ones. Note further, Rue is the one wearing the red shoes in her ballet uniform, and Kraehe wears the black shoes. Considering Rue is the relatively "good" side and Kraehe is the manifestation of her darkness, if pious is supposed to be good, and sinful bad, isn't that a strange reversal?

I venture further here. Karen (the girl in the story) basically is tortured to humility and submission. She was sorrowful and ashamed of herself, and the story ends (er, spoilers? XP ) with her soul going to heaven: translation, she dies. Whose fate does this sound more like? Consider that Kraehe is always submissive and obedient to the Raven, is always unhappy and feels guilty and that she's ugly (opposite of vanity, which Karen is accused of). Rue however is proud and vain oftentimes, and spends all her time away from the Raven, not being obedient to him (she did what he said by pretending to be human, but once she did she never went back and even forgot about him....like putting on red shoes that you can't take off? Or in this case, don't want to?), and in the end keeping him from getting what he wanted. (Of course, this is ignoring that she had to be rescued from despair after reverting to Rue, but also consider that BOTH she and Mytho defeat the Raven after this, and that would negate the contradiction.)

....Er, I know this is also implicitly paralleling the Raven with the church in this story, but consider the overbearing, iron-fisted power the religion as portrayed here exerts over the main character, and how it demonizes vanity, pride and irreverence, attributes that Rue possesses that Kraehe doesn't. (Kraehe is quite reverent in the fact that she follows the Raven without question or confrontation. Kraehe is not vain or proud in that she secretly thinks she's the ugliest thing in the world that no one will love except the Raven and later, the Prince.) So I'm not saying that this connection necessarily places Christianity in a bad light, but does denounce the kind of emotional and expressional oppression that you can relate to Rue's suffering as Kraehe.

Of course, the show did say that the story doesn't match exactly what was in the show, so a lot of this is probably the human tendency to find connections in randomness again. But I thought it was an interesting one nonetheless.

So You Think You Can Dance - Tutu Style

After being re-enamoured with the SYTYCD show again this summer, I had a really challenging idea that I think I might want to give a try.

For those of you that have no idea what So You Think You Can Dance is, it's basically a television program (reality show, of sorts) that is a competition between 20 chosen dancers (10 guys and 10 girls) that have gone through auditions and then a grueling week of challenges in Vegas to follow (if they made it through the audition anyway). They then compete on a weekly basis (after being split into couples) for the title of "America's Favorite Dancer" and have to perform types of dance (that they pull out of hat) and master a routine to the choreography they're taught, then dance live on stage and be judged (later on down the road they also switch partners and things get more difficult). And each week, one guy and one girl are eliminated from the competition.

So what does this have to do with Princess Tutu, you ask?

This show has inspired me beyond to explore more about dance, particularly where my drawing is concerned. And I thought it would be SO FUN to do pairing dance pictures to the different styles of dance. And this would be a huuuuge challenge to me, both for the costumes and poses. (I really want to stretch my limits with this and see what I can do.)

What I want to know, is what pairings you guys think would best fit each type of dance. I WILL be sticking mainly to the pairings I like to draw a lot (Fakir/Ahiru and Mytho/Rue), but I am willing to hear out who you guys think would work out best for style of dance, even if it's not either of those. Feedback would be SO APPRECIATED.

I imagine some of you are wondering "Wtf is she expecting if we don't even know the styles of dances or what they are?" ...Well, by clicking that link below, I'm going to list the styles I'm either planning to do or thinking of doing, and with it I will give a link or two to one of the dances as performed on the show and uploaded to YouTube.

If you guys could help me out with this, I would really appreciate it! This is an insane drawing challenge for me, but I think it will be SO FUN and I just LOVE the idea of the PT crew doing all different styles of dance.

(Just list the dance and then which couple you think would best suit it, in your opinion.) ^^ And you can suggest the same pair for as many as you like. I'm just a little iffy on who should be doing what before I attempt any of these, so I'd really appreciate some help!

Also! My apologies that most of the links have the commentary and/or judging in them. It was hard to find links of JUST the dances themselves (but I did find a few!). :(

Fanart dump, I guess you can call it? Lawls. Imma put it all under a happy lil LJ-cut for your convenience. Because... it's more convenient, yes. It's not exactly 'shippy' but can be viewed as such (or can be viewed as friendship?) - it's mostly done for the humour though. *scratches head* Warning for dumb 3am crack jokes behind the cut though XD; nothing bad, just my mind being ... well, my mind.

Obviously, the fanart is of Fakir and Ahiru. Because I'm THAT predictable. And I have no life. ~~One day I'll actually draw Mytho and Rue, I swear.~~

First off, this one. This was kinna sorta... more or less inspired by an rp I shared with someone. Granted, in the rp they were sitting against a tree and it was she that was writing an essay while he read 'Pride and Prejudice' (I kid you not). However, I decided I wanted to draw them bck to back, leaning one against the others. So thus this pic was born from that idea. I WAS going to have them listening to an mp3 player together and then I realised har-har, I very much doubt they have those in the PT-verse, so I ignored that train of thought.

Also yes, that's a paper stuck up his shirt. Don't ask. That's how my mind works.

... She's going to last around 2 more minutes in that pose before she gets distracted by something, jumps to her feet and goes "Oh, shinny! *runs off!*". You know it's true; because the laws of physics dictate Ahiru can not sit still for longer than 5 minutes.

... Uh... this was born from a very silly aim conversation with a friend. She wanted me to er... make Fakir and Ahiru into lil hyena-furry-chibis (Why hyenas? No idea! XD it's what she asked for! dfsadsadf). So I did. And the crack!comic was born from that. This was mostly an excuse for me to play with dumb expressions.

Poopy-head is the best insult in the world, shut up, Fakir. Ahiru's so going to throw a rock at his head X:

Fanart (Airbrushed) - Healing Touch

I had the inspiration to do a fanart recently, so I went ahead and used said inspiration before it disappeared.

It is kind of shippy for the Fakir/Ahiru pairing, but I really focused on emotions more than anything, so I really hope that came out.

No warnings. It is implied that they're not really wearing clothing, but nothing is showing (it's more of a head-shot for both) and it's not meant to be taken that way. I just think the lack of clothing really helped bring across the feelings of the piece and I wanted Fakir's scar to be showing.

Well, since a few people gave me some much needed suggestions, I changed a few things around with this picture, so I think it looks a little better than the sketch I had before. I'm still not really happy with the hands or Fakir's body and the way he's focusing, but since the faces ares supposed to be the focus, hopefully that doesn't distract from it too much? Anyone who is good with anatomy can feel free to give pointers! ~~I wore my paper out trying to fix things. >>;;;~~

I went with airbrushing for this and I lightened it up afterward, because I wanted to a get a soft feeling and really bring out the feelings and emotion more than anything else. I don't think solid coloring or cel-shading like I normally do would have that same effect, but that is just my opinion. That said, I realize there's some color bleeding and it's sketchy (I also thought penning it in would work against the softer and more subtle feeling). But I hope you can excuse that and enjoy it.
