Fic/Fanart Contest - Birthday Edition

Yes, you read that right. I know I haven't been that stellar of a mod recently, but I want to see if we can't liven this community up a bit.

For a long time now I've wondered when Homura's birthday was. Obviously Heaven wanted to keep it under wraps because it was such a scandal, but he had to be born sometime. And while many of the other characters' of Saiyuki have been given actual birthdays, Homura's has never been known (at least not to me, and I've searched pretty extensively).

So, illianaka proposed we should make his informal birthday January 26th - the same day as his seiyuu, Toshiyuki Morikawa. I wholeheartilly agree with her, and it gave me an idea for this challenge.

CONTEST RULES:

1. All stories and art must contain elements of the birthday theme (obviously). It can be anything from something small to a big party - whatever idea catches your fancy. Genfic, het, yaoi, anything goes as long as it involves the birthday theme in some way.
2. All stories/art must be the original works of the author/artist.
3. There is no limit to the number of entries that can be submitted.
4. Stories/art cannot be older pieces unless they are nominated by another individual. You cannot nominate your own work, but you CAN submit new work to the contest.
5. All submissions must follow the already existing rules for posting material for the community. In short, put everything behind a cut or give us a link and make sure you give us any warnings if needed. Post submissions in NEW LJ posts in this community and include "Birthday Contest" somehow in the Subject.
6. Submissions can be made from now up until the 22nd of January. Then there will be voting for three days following and the winners of each catagory will be announced on the 26th. Anyone who submits a story after the 22nd will have their story listed in the "exibition" catagory and will not be up for voting.
7. Those who submit entries may vote, but they are required to abstain from voting on their own entries. Voting on one's own entry will knock you out of voting and into "exibition" only.
8. Those who don't wish to compete but still wish to submit in honor of Homura's birthday may do so by stating that their fic is part of the "exibition" section. This means that your fic will not be voted on, but still linked to for others to find.
9. Winners will receive banners that they can put up in their LJ userinfo or webpage or wherever they wish.

I don't have anything to offer as yet, though, as I'm currently working on a Saiyuki fanfic that would eventually feature the great war prince himself. Will post it up when I'm done!

The first thing he was aware of was warmth. It was such a strange sensation for him – a freezing chill through his body had become commonplace for him on a day to day basis. Despite how hard he tried to wish it away or not think of it, he had never grown used to it. Ever. He had felt the touch of freezing wind fueled by ice and snow, and still it didn’t compare to the coldness that entrapped his wrists. Nothing could compare with the objectification of Heaven’s attitude in his chains.

And yet now he was warm – his limbs twined with the very essence of the earth, warming him, fighting his chains even while resting to prove to the war prince that Heaven’s will was not absolute. The earth was complimented by “Paradise” by being its opposite, and it made it seem that much more precious. Sometimes he wondered if being given his position was a blessing in disguise. He had been given freedom to walk the earth without suspicion. In a way, he was permitted to mingle with those he found… more genuine. Humans and demons were hypocrites, but at least they were aware of it.

But the earth itself was not hypocritical. It did what it said, even if the results were somewhat harsh. Maybe that was why he, a war prince, loved to dwell there. Or maybe it was the human in him calling him home.

The embrace of the earth’s spirit felt so much more like home than Heaven ever did. Heaven made him feel so cold. The earth thawed that from his body.

Homura felt a small smile touch his expression. He had been wrong in saying nothing could compare to his chains. The living and breathing personification of the earth was infinitely more complex and powerful.

Said personification, almost as if sensing he was being considered, drew closer. A palm pressed into Homura’s lower back, and the demigod could feel more of his skin warm as their bodies fed off of each other’s heat. But Homura felt slightly guilty as his cold chain insolently fixed itself between them, separating them and stealing the earth’s warmth and turning it into bitterness.

He had felt for centuries that the chains on his wrists were a more painful reminder of his crime – his existence – then the cell he grew up in ever could. Though “free” he was confined – separated from the world. His chain was to be a barrier to all.

Somehow, though, it didn’t bother the earth spirit. Just a short while ago when they had been preparing for their joining, it had been the earth spirit who wound his arm in the chain, purposely submitting himself to the same sensation that his to-be lover felt constantly. He had winced, yes, but instead of pulling away he linked their fingers together with his bound hand while the other had found its way into the war prince’s hair. The earth spirit understood the pain that these chains caused. Homura knew he was one of the only ones that did.

Heaven had foolishly tried to contain the power of the Great Sage, but the metal could not suppress the perfect personification of the earth. He had been the only one to prove them so wrong that they did their best to make the earth itself forget what he had done. But Homura knew that the earth spirit, that Goku, had not forgotten – he just couldn’t consciously remember.

Goku had not been afraid of the chains. As their bodies had pressed together in their charged heat, he would not let it separate him from the one he was with. In contrast to how the chain spiraled down his arm, he had wound his legs around Homura’s waist and pulled him closer. He had been yearning to be taken, and when his body arched in the first moment of their joining, Homura had been speechless in awe. And as they moved together, it was almost as if he could hear silent whispering amongst their moans and cries.

I am stronger than your chains.

The hand had moved from his hair to claw at his back – desperate to grasp onto the body he had been craving as their tempo changed. Pain was fleeting as nails cut into his skin, but Homura was too used to pain to regard it with much attention; his body was in the process of being satisfied in so many other places that he didn’t mind. They’d be marks he’d proudly bear.

In his most highly charged moment – only seconds after Goku’s own – he had found himself crying out louder than any exclamation either of them had made that night. Although technically he was pouring out, he felt like the exact opposite was happening to him. Goku moaned at the sensation, and Homura couldn’t help but feel as though he were being filled. It was a stunning feeling that caressed every nerve of his body.

How he wished he could remain like this forever – their forms molded perfectly to match the shape of the other as they conversed silently with fingers and kisses. Homura could still feel the slick testimony of Goku’s approval between them.

Just how many individuals could claim that they had gotten such attention from the very earth? How many could say that their lover was the Great Sage whose power equaled Heaven’s? Truthfully Homura knew that there could be one other possibility in the whole world, but Goku had still chosen him.

It was an honor, above any he had received before, to lie down and join with the one he had admired for so long. And while he was still a god, he felt as though he were the one being blessed. Strange that a heretic would receive a blessing from someone with such power, but not so strange when he remembered that that same someone was of his own kind. While their heritage was different, they were still connected by a remarkable similarity. Maybe that was why he could understand why the earth spirit acted like he did. And maybe…

…maybe it was why he felt at peace, and for once, complete.

Hi all! I come offering a lil' bit of Shien "art". Since I can't actually draw worth beans, I do 'stick-figure doujinshi' - mostly the ones I've done so far have been for YnM, but Homura & Co. have recently moved into my Muse Apartment (boy is it getting crowded in here too...) and are demanding stick figgies of their own...so I had to oblige.

I've heard that it's bad news to mess up Homura's Pretty Hair. Well, let's find out what happens when Zenon decides it's funny to commit the next worst grievous sin: messing with Shien's Pretty Hair! One Two Three

*grins* I FINALLY have a Homura-centric piece I can post here. ^^ It makes me very happy, because I've wanted to write one about him for awhile.

Title: Deceptive Warrior

Summary: Even the prince of war fears some warriors – but he respects them as well. And sometimes, the fiercest of warriors are not even alive.

Wind. It was such a deceptive word. It suggested being nothing more than air traveling across the surface of the earth. Almost innocent.

Almost.

The moment the wind carried something other than air within its folds, the innocence blew away, and could not be found again. Any moment now where nothing was carried in the air, it was simply an attempt to cover up the former deeds. It was no longer blameless.

Of all the elements, Homura, the prince of war, respected and feared wind the most. It was shapeless, and could not be caught by man or demon. Even the gods had trouble with it, and he had grown to take a liking to those things that made Heaven’s existence difficult. To him, it did not matter that he also had trouble with it. He lived with the knowledge that he could not best it, and therefore it was easier to live with.

He had no use worrying over things that he knew he could not change.

With his position had come great power, and great responsibility. Already blessed with the gifts born of the Emperor’s own family, it had not taken him long to refine his skills to become the warrior that Heaven needed.

‘Prince’ was supposed to be an honorable title. But the prince of war, even if it were him or his predecessor, was looked down upon. They were unclean.

Filth.

He was cursed with the blood of his father, he became the scapegoat for his own family and people.

No, he reminded himself, I have no people.

The wind blew again as he looked out over the valley, bitter as it swirled around him and away in the opposite direction. Tiny water crystals, too fine for even his attentive eyes to distinguish amongst the dark night, bit into his face as he resisted the urge to wince. Despite the pattern on his cloak, he was not warm. Not even the embroidered fire could block the frigid temperatures of the dead of winter.

But he had to be here. His sovereignty over war and strife commanded him to.

All war, whether divinely started or by other means, was his to watch over. While sometimes he would be an important player in the battle, other times he was simply an observer. Like today, a day that looked like night by the stormy sky above him, but he knew in truth it was only afternoon.

There was no physical fighting right now, but he watched as the humans vainly battled the elements. Tents only meant for summer dotted the valley – quickly covered in the bitterly cold powder. Lighter than sand, it did not stay in one place but constantly moved, making it impossible to clear away. Men, many able and full of youth, hunched over like a figure beyond their years in an attempt to block the bitter wind. Many huddled together, forming a barrier against the relentless, “innocent” elements.

The gods were warm in Heaven, oblivious to this suffering.

An unhappy smile ghosted on his face. He could go back there any time he wanted to. The battle was not until later – he was not required to be here now. He could return before his limbs became so stiff with cold that he could not move. But in reality, it would take much more than the elements to freeze the fire in his veins up.

Even if he had come down to touch his mortality in a minute way, this could not kill him.

A particularly harsh gust blew across his face, and it felt like tiny needles were piercing his skin. He did not flinch or raise his hand to shield himself.

The wind would eventually win over him, and in his weakness he would return to Paradise. But in complete honesty, he saw the true victory in the troops below, battling against something they knew they could not defeat.

The wind was much more fierce an opponent than any physical being could be.
