Happy New Year!
The archive is open! Go read stories!

Thank you and congratulations to all our writers--please leave as many comments as you can--they're always appreciated.

*Until the author reveal, you'll have to log in to read. But if you want to share, accounts are free and easy to set up!
It was a long day of carbohydrates and college bowl games, so you might want to take what I say with a grain of salt.
The archive, however, is still up. :)

ETA: this assignment has been claimed, in record time no less. Thanks, everyone!
Check-in time: we are doing excellently well! But we do have one story logged as a default, sadly. The following assignment is available for anyone willing and able to write a backup story this week. The back-up deadline will be Wednesday night, December 31 at 23:59 Eastern Standard Time. (Yes, this would by New Year's Eve. We are still hoping to go live with stories for everyone on New Year's Day.)
( het and gen requests in Farscape, Battlestar Galactica (new), Buffy the Vampire Slayer )
If you would like this assignment, please send an email to prettymods @ compromisingpositions dot net. It is first come, first serve. I will let any and all e-mailers know whether they have or have not successfully claimed the assignment.
Thanks!

This is just a reminder that your stories are due tonight, at 23:59 Eastern Standard Time, or eight and a half hours from now. As always, any stories missing from the archive after this time are grounds for being banned for future participation in the Actorficathon.

1) It is December 14, 2008. Your stories of 750 words or more are due in thirteen days on December 27 by midnight Eastern Standard Time. If you will not be able to complete your story, please let us know ASAP at prettymods @ compromisingpositions dot net.
2) The archive is open for uploading here. If you have participated before, then your username and password remain the same. If not, then you first have to register, then follow the instructions to submit your story. Comment or email if you encounter any problems!
3) A couple people have asked about the procedure for back-up writers. Thanks for your interest! We don't have any dropouts so far *knocks wood*, but when we do I will post a call to the community for writers, and it will be first come, first serve. So please watch the community if you're interested in writing a backup fic.
Thanks. You have ten shopping days left until Christmas. :)

All assignments have been sent! Let us know if you don't have yours, but don't forget to check your spam folder first. All emails will be coming from prettymods @ compromisingpositions dot net, and that's where you can reach us with any questions about your assignments. Unfortunately we weren't able to honour too many first choice requests, but hopefully you will all find a way to have fun with your assignments anyway. And thanks to everyone who offered extra fandoms! It really did help.
Some of the emails state the incorrect due date. Sorry about that! Fics are due on December 27 by midnight eastern time. Minimum word count is 750 words.

Apologies for the lateness of the assignments. We don't have a fancy computer program to do the author to recipient matching like some *other* challenges, so some years it goes a little slower than we would prefer. If you'd like to possibly help us simplify this, as well as make an RPF-er's holiday that much brighter, here a list of additional fandoms that we would be happy to have writers in:
Bones
Chronicles of Narnia
Entourage
Farscape
Gilmore Girls
Highschool Musical
House
The Knockaround Guys
Lord of the Rings
Law and Order: SVU
Mamma Mia!
Ocean's 11 Trilogy
The Office
One Tree Hill
PS: I Love
Twilight
Veronica Mars
Obviously, this is not a demand for anyone to sign up for something they can't really do. Defaulting later helps no one. And this is not a demand for anyone to alter their *requests*. Everyone gets the story they really want. That's our motto. :) But if you are currently signed up for the challenge, and you can do even one of these fandoms, just stop by your original signup and edit it to let us know.
Thank you!

the annual fandom poll is open here. Please vote so that we can make a somewhat accurate fandom shortlist.
The poll will be open until next weekend, when we will put up the signup sheet. Signups will be open until November 7, and assignments will go out shortly afterwards. Stories will be due on the 27th December and go up on New Year's Day or as soon as we have all stories.

As promised, the unfulfilled requests* from Pretty Lights 2007.
1. Pick a prompt. You don't have to claim it in the comments, though you're welcome to do so if it will help you complete a story.
2. Write a story based on the prompt, any length or rating.
3. Go ahead and post it to the archive, plus where you usually post your stories. For the "recipient" field, just put NEW YEAR'S CHALLENGE. (Or you're welcome to email me and inquire who submitted the prompt, if you want to craft something more to the requestor's liking. Then you can just address the story to them.)
4. Come back here and post a link to the story, so we can read it and enjoy!
*Your mods have thrown in some extras, just for fun.

Have fun!

As some of you have already spotted, author names have been revealed. Reposting is now allowed, so go forth and tell everyone how awesome you are! Or go stalk your Santa's journal to find more good fic!
An "unclaimed prompts" challenge coming up soon. No, we mean it this year.

*Well, only if you have them turned on...
You'll have to log in at the archive, then navigate to
http://prettylights.compromisingpositio ns.net/2007/editUser.php?uname=[your user name**]
to make sure you have the "Receive notifications" box checked. Some users may have it checked already--there've been a few coding... let's call them "misunderstandings," shall we?
**[your user name]=the name you signed in with. No brackets are necessary.
N.B. In order to assuage my current level of OCD-ness, just a reminder: Don't reply to the lovely comments you're probably getting until after the reveal. Just bask in the glow of a job well done. :)
(also? with only one defaulter? this is our best year ever, yay! you guys rock, seriously.)

Hi!
The archive is open. Please visit this start page to upload your story. It's pretty basic copy and paste archive stuff, I think, and the exact same as last year, but if you have tech issues comment here or email
kernelm and we will do our best to walk you through it.
Four days and counting down. :)

Hi pretty people,
just a reminder that your stories of 750 words or more are due on Sunday, the 23rd of December at 6pm. Any story not in the archive at this time will be assumed a default, and we'll be reassigning your recipient to someone else. Immediately, or as much so as possible, so there's no grace period. And we'll be keeping a list this year, and you won't be able to sign up for Pretty Lights ever again. No, seriously. You also won't be able to sign up for any other ficathon run by either
skripka or myself. Which is potentially a lot, because we are insane.
That said, if you are having honest troubles finishing your story, now is the better time to mention it. prettymods at compromisingpositions.net, or just comment.
(And yes, I know that archive instructions are a bit late. Sorry about that, they should be out in the next couple days, and then you can upload your story for us all to read. Yay!)

This is where you can post more detailed information for your secret santa/writer. Feel free to post or not; if you think your request was detailed enough, there probably isn't a need for you to post here. But if you want to anyway, don't let that stop you.
Consider these letters helpful guidlines. What you, as a writer, have recieved as an assignment is what you have signed up to write, and no more. If you want more information about what your recipient wants and/or likes, this is the place to look.
If you, as a requestor, have any major squicks, this is the place to point them out. However, just saying that you like reading about, say, BDSM, should not be considered a formal request of your writer.
If you have a post already, feel free to link to it in a comment.
Does that all make sense? Yes? Good, then. Reply away!

This is the place to volunteer your services to beta-read. Please note, you do not have to be signed up for the 2007 ficathon to volunteer your beta skills, nor do the writers have to use this list to find a beta (although we highly encourage the use of some beta-reader, somewhere.)
Please reply with the following information:
<b> your name:</b> (i.e., Smut-Obsessed Polyfictional Writer)
<b> your email:</b> (i.e., sopw_rps@yahoo.ca)
<b> your fandoms:</b> (i.e., "I'm willing to beta stories that involve the following actors: " or "I'm willing to beta grammar on any or all fandoms; however, I can only do characterization/plot for SG-1 rpf.")
<b> your strengths:</b> (i.e., "I do best with long, plotty stories about Michael Shank's pants and am the queen of semicolons.")
<b> your hard limits:</b> (i.e., "I will absolutely not beta kink of any kind, nor anything that takes place on airplanes.")
<b> your timeline:</b> (i.e., "I'm always online, so feel free to bounce ideas off me whenever." or "Please don't try and request a beta on December 22 as I will frantically be trying to finish my own story.")
If you need a beta reader, please reply to the volunteer's comment to see if they are still available, rather than cold-emailing them. Try to avoid asking your recipient to beta the story you wrote for them (it's that whole secret-santa thing again).

Sorry for the delay, but assignments are being sent out as I post.
Please be sure to check your spam/junk mail folders, just in case an overzealous bot thinks we're sending soliciations for v!49ra or something.
Also, note the due date: December 23, 2007, 6:00 pm EST.
We'll let you know when the archive is ready for uploading your stories, which isn't quite yet. Those of you who are quick off the draw and finish your fic early (or right away), please wait for the announcement before trying to upload.
Any questions of a general nature can be posted here; questions specific to your assignment or complaints can be emailed to me directly, atskripka at livejournal dot com skripka2 at yahoo dot com.
Have fun writing!
