Partner and dr's appointments?
Does your partner attend your doctor's appointments (just the normal ones, not the ones with paps or anything like that).

I have an appointment on monday, normally my husband works out of town and is away for them, but he will be in town for this one, and he asked if he should go... I have no idea if it's normal or not.

It would be nice for him to meet the doctor before the baby is coming out of me though.

My husband has only missed one!
I think it's super important for him to be there.
Granted, the midwife comes to our house, so it's not too hard for him to make arrangements :)

My husband attends the first one, for the ultrasound, and he comes to the anatomy ultrasound (20 weeks or so). Most of the other appointments are 10 minutes long, so he doesn't attend.

My husband goes to most of mine. He likes to hear the heartbeat, and I'm glad he has a chance to meet my midwife before I give birth.

I also had a very bad experience when my first baby was born, so I feel better if I don't have to go alone.

My husband came to most of mine. When they were every week at the end, he did every-other.

My husband doesn't: he has a long commute, and it seems silly to make him come just to hear the doctor give me a once-over and say "lookin' good, see you in four weeks!" But if he were around, I wouldn't think it at all strange for him to come. And I agree that it would be good for him to meet the doc before hte Big Event.

Mine comes to all of mine. He works an hour away and takes a train to get there, but he rearranges his schedule to be there. His boss is understanding and definitely approves of him coming.

My husband is unemployed at the moment, he lost his job 4 days before I found out I was pregnant (excellent timing, eh?)

Anyway, since he doesn't have anything else to do (like go to work or to school), he has come to every single one of mine. I can't imagine him not being there, even at the meaningless 10 minute appointments. And it sucks that he is out of work but I am going to be seriously bummed when life goes back to normal and he's gone for 8+ hours a day :(

My husband comes to all of ours. We schedule them so we can both attend. He was at every visit for our son as well. The other day he was running a little bit late and I said, 'It's not a big deal. I can go by myself.' He wasn't having it though... and we managed to get there in time!

I like this! There's something special about you both knowing "what's up," instead of having to explain what happened that day.

since my mom is the one sticking by me through this, she has come to every one. she helps me remember to ask certain things if i forget to write them down or mention it while we are waiting.

My SO has gone to all of my appointments. He even went to the last one with the PAP and whatnot so he could meet the doctor and just went out to the waiting room when they were ready to begin that part.

I schedule all of my appointments for my husband's days off work and he comes to all of them regardless of what they are for. He's awesome at being really involved in the pregnancy. :)

I did everything in my power to have my husband at the 2 he was home for, but he's been deployed for all the rest, including the ultrasound. (Boy was I disappointed when our first "appointment" was with someone in the office to go over the registration information we'd already gone over... we had put an incredible amount of effort into making sure he was available for that one, sharing a car and having to run stupid errands for his higher-ups. So of course one of the 2 he got to come to was really NOTHING, booo).

I think if he were around, I'd have him come to the first h/b and the u/s and that's probably it unless there were complications or important test results to wait for. Some of them are pretty boring outside of hearing the heartbeat.

Exactly, I love this about my husband coming to mine - I don't have to fill him in later and worry that I forgot about something.

My husband is planning to come to them. I can't imagine he'll make it to all of them, though. It would be a good idea to take him to one. A normal one would be fine. It'll give him a chance to ask any questions he has.

My doctor is really nice, and always asks my DH if he has any questions or concerns too. I think it really makes him feel like he is more a part of the whole process.

My husband has come to every single one so far. He always gets excited to hear the heartbeat. Even if the appointment is a simple checkup, it might be a good bonding experience :) [[hearing the heartbeat, and the car ride with you - it's a good time to daydream about the future together]

He came to most of them for my first pregnancy. This time around, I've mostly scheduled the appointments so that he can watch our daughter while I go to the appointment, although he has been to one OB appointment, all of the midwife appointments (those were at our home during the first half of the pregnancy), and a couple of the growth ultrasounds.

When I was pregnant with my daughter and seen by an OB, the pregnancy was high risk. He didn't come to the OB appointments with me until 36 weeks-he came, met the OB, got to feel my cervix (with the OB's descriptions of what he was looking for-he'd checked it when we were doing NFP and ttc, but not during pregnancy) and all that. My husband did come to all of my perinatologist appointments, mostly because they did ultrasounds at each of them, and he liked to see the ultrasound.

This time around, the pregnancy isn't high risk. We're planning a homebirth with a midwife, and the whole experience is different. The care is family oriented-I bring my toddler with me, and the midwife shows her pictures of what babies look like when they're growing, and has a blood pressure cuff for her to play with (she's fascinated with the blood pressure cuff) and calls her granddaughter (who is about four months younger than my daughter) in to play with my daughter. We had a consult with the midwife before I was pregnant and so she'd met my husband and daughter before I started my care with her. When I went for my first prenatal appointment alone, she was disappointed that they weren't with me.

I do think it's important for my partner to meet my care provider before the birth, but when I saw the OB, if he wasn't at every appointment it wasn't a big deal. This time around, I feel like it's much more important that he's there.

My hubby-to-be has come to every single appointment. Including the one where I had a pap. The doctor mentioned he seemed nervous at that one, and I replied "It's his first pap!" and we all had a laugh. :)

My husband has come to all the appointments too.

Prior to witnessing the pap, my husband's attitude towards them was along the lines of "it's just a q-tip, you women are big babies!"

His first words to me after the appointment were, "I have never been so glad to be a man. That brush! And it made you bleed! And what the hell was that thing she cranked you open with? I've seen medieval torture devices that looked less evil! A prostate check has NOTHING on that!"
