Quiznos delivers now? WOOHOO! I have died and gone to heaven. A heaven where I will be very fat but never hungry.
And the roomie is out at the grocery store buying me brownies. They go on these random 9pm grocery store expeditions for the strangest things, I figured I would put them to use. Seriously, it will be late late at night and all of a sudden he needs triple A batteries or 1% milk or she must have donuts or lavender soap. It's so weird. But tonight I don't care because I was craving chocolate so when they brought up going out, I made puppy eyes and offered five bucks in exchange for bringing me brownies from the bakery.
I've started surfing with Safari instead of Firefox. It's so clean and smooth. However it sucks CPU like a hungry vampire on a schoolgirl. '
I've planned a week vacation back to PA next year. Plane tickets are spendy! I'm looking at $600 to fly into Allentown or $500 to fly into Philly. Not including bag surcharges. I may just send my clothes ahead by UPS and take a carry on. I'm trying to persuade my cousin whom I'm staying with to give me $100 or so to offset the plane ticket.
If that doesn't pan out I am flying somewhere else. I need an actual vacation. Seattle, San Diego, Boston, Salem, or maybe I'll be strange and vacation in South Dakota or something. At least my vacation will be quiet then.

I am so tired. Why am I so tired? Sure, I stayed up until 5:30 but that's beside the point. I reject your earth logic.
So yesterday was the pumpkin patch. I took pictures, because childrens are cute.
Did they actually get a pumpkin? ha. no, they did not.
Then in the car, almost back to their place, Prop 8 came up and my dad said he is going by the bible and I came SO CLOSE to saying "FUCK THE BIBLE" but managed not to because of the children and Ruth. and I, unlike my father, actually respect other people, so did not want to say that in front of Ruth. and if he actually MEANT it, I wouldn't want to say it to him either, but again, he just uses it as an excuse to hide behind.
enough about my jackass of a father, eh?
Apparently for my mom's party, I am allowed to wear the dress I have worn for my Ginger costume. I don't even know if it's the right time period.. but I don't really care, either. ;P because paying a lot for something I would only wear once? come on. and ugh, what SHOES? I have no idea how this will turn out..
in conclusion: I slept with all three of my sheets/blankets last night. I NEARLY WEPT WITH JOY.

So...
First a friend I had not spoken to in over a month asked me what was wrong and then proclaimed I always have so much drama that I must just attract it.
I refrained from kicking her teeth in.
Then a coworker sob story on about her pregnancy. Proclaims she doesn't want love, just wants to be a slut.
I refrained from telling how stupid that statement sounds.
Then I had a customer who spoke with a very thick Spanish accent and kept slipping in Spanish words growl "Do you think I'm fucking stupid, you little bitch?" at me when I asked her if she wanted someone on the Spanish line.
I hung up on her.

If you can, please please PLEASE donate to No on Prop 8.
I'm totally broke and could only donate five bucks. But christ, this is SO IMPORTANT. In super light terms, don't let California be an Indian Giver, man. They can't LET us have our gay marriages and then take it away months later. It's fucked up. And the polls are so close and the anti people are giving so much damn money and I just. ugh.
I am terrified of bringing this up to my father and sister-in-law. For completely different reasons. I mean, I'm also gonna ask my brother about it, but that's not that scary.
Ruth, however, is very religious. I'm trying to think of all the different reasons she could give for voting yes on it and things I could say in return. I mean, her big thing is that she wants to Save Us All. She worries about me and her brother and how we'll be going to hell because blah blah blaaaaah. But like, ok, whatever. I figure to most of that stuff, I can bring up the whole FREEDOM OF RELIGION aspect. I mean, atheists get married all the time. People of all religions do and do not. Gay people just want the same damn choice, and I don't see any of us trying to make it so that like, churches HAVE to gay-marry people.
So yeah. I'm scared of talking to her about it because of this stuff, but at the same time she is someone who actually listens to reason and can see other viewpoints and all, I just don't know if that will extend to actually voting on this. I'd rather she just skip that vote all together than vote YES.
But my dad.
I don't know. I seriously feel he's getting closer and closer to being completely cut out of my life.
See, Ruth is allowed to use the religion excuse, dumb as I think it is for something like this, because she is devout. She practises what she preaches. AND she's the right kind of Christian, the kind that actually does love everyone and doesn't judge and all. As I said, her issue is that she worries too much about what will happen to the people she loves.
My dad? My dad was raised Catholic in the sense that he went to Catholic school until high school.
That.. is about it.
He wasn't married in a Catholic church, so in their eyes? He's not even MARRIED, and therefore he has two children out of wedlock. He has no fucking right to judge other people.
PLUS. He is not a freakin practising Catholic!!!!!! He only uses it to hide his damn ignorance behind. And I am TERRIFIED of bringing this up with him because I just know that after two seconds I will want to punch him in the throat. I have that feeling a lot.
He just.. He is the most stubborn and set in his ways guy ever. He still loves Bush. He loves Palin. Even after he and my mom have explained how Palin is AGAINST WOMEN'S RIGHTS, he doesn't seem to care. He doesn't do ANY research on ANYTHING. Just watches FOX News and takes everything they say as gospel.
So yeah, listing facts and sources? Doesn't mean shit to him, because he laughs it off and ignores it. Happily going his own way.
So explaining stuff about Prop 8, while possibly working with Ruth, will not work with him. Telling him that hey, if he votes yes on this, I will actually, literally, never have anything to do with him again because he would be denying HIS OWN DAUGHTER equal rights? He'll laugh it off and give my anger a month at most.
Yeah. Ha ha, cause what's the big deal about being able to marry the person you love and have all the rights that come with it, right? Silly me.
Sorry. Had to rant.
edit: ahaaahaha, how nice that I chose to rant about this on Coming Out Day. um.
In lighter news, last night was the FIRST NIGHT since I got back from Ohio in July that I was able to sleep WITHOUT THE FAN ON. Keep it up, plz.

| Gay Marriage Rights Approved in CT |
[10 Oct 2008|12:37pm] |
By Christopher Keating, Hartford Courant, October 10, 2008
In a 4 - 3 decision today, the Connecticut Supreme Court granted gay couples the right to marry.
The long-awaited decision had been crafted over many months and stretches to 85 pages.
The majority decision, written by Justice Richard Palmer, states, "Accordingly, we reject the trial court's decision that marriage and civil unions are 'separate' but 'equal' entities.''
Palmer was joined in the majority by Justices Joette Katz, Flemming L. Norcott, and Lubbie Harper, Jr.
The majority specifically rejected the reasoning of longtime Justice David M. Borden, a friend of Palmer's who has often been seen having lunch with his colleague at the state Capitol complex's cafeteria.
"In his dissenting opinion, Justice Borden concludes that gay persons are not entitled to protected status because they have too much political power to warrant such protection,'' the majority said. The four justices added that "this conclusion is flawed because, at the time women were accorded protected status under the federal constitution, they possessed more political power than gays in this state currently possess.''
The big question now is how the ruling will affect a question on the November 4 ballot in Connecticut that asks if the state should hold a constitutional convention. Those in favor of the convention want direct initiative, which would allow for a statewide referendum on gay marriage by all voters.

I've been a bad El Jay mommy, so I thought I'd repent a little by writing you all, my dear flist, a note.
( warning: large image - it's an actual, written letter. )
Out of nowhere, someone wants to know if I want to move in with them.
Today at work, someone called and asked me if our up-coming booksale meant we were selling all of the books in the library before we move to the new one. XD
There was also a very disgruntled person there today. He came up and asked if I had seen Alan Potter. "Ummm....I don't know who that is, sir." He got really huffy and started talking to himself and then demanded to use the phone. I'm not supposed to let people use it unless it's an emergency, but a tall, irate man seems like an emergency for myself, in any case. He proceeded to pretty much yell into the phone, telling whoever it was how furious he felt, and saying things like 'TELL HIM THE MISSION IS OFF.' I just stood there thinking Must not further anger the angry, yelling man, and he kept asking for our phone number. I would be like '63--' 'WAIT,' and then he'd ask again, but then I'd have to stop again at his command. He did end the conversation by telling the other person he loved them, which was very amusing to me because it made the conversation into something like this: OIJEJFIOEJIO*&$#OEIJFMCB+@^#RENMVKLJOPAJDOJFE! ♥♥.
I hate it when something unexpectedly bothers me, and then I get upset with myself for being bothered by it because it's stupid and doesn't have anything to do with me even though I probably wish it did and that it's all in my head anyway so why let it effect me and I'm just seeing things that aren't there and projecting. That was a very long and cryptic sentence. It's amazing how much of a foolish little girl I can be sometimes.
The Festival of Leaves is this weekend, but unfortunately I have to work both days. I guess I will just have to find contentment in the fact that I didn't have fun last year.Though it was kind of funny to see three old dudes playing Nirvana.

Ok, so I know that the internet is not a living, thinking entity. However, mine may have some thoughts. First of all, I'm pretty sure my internet is a Republican. I finally got to watching the Presidential debates on Hulu and my computer allowed it. John McCain talks and all is fine, Obama goes for a rebuttal or something and the sound and picture get choppy and I can't figure out what he's saying. This contines throughout the debate or least the ten minutes I can stand watching only one side. I tried playing the second debate and the same damn thing happens. Computer freaks when Obama speaks and the CPU goes nuts making the sound jump.
I made an effort today to find out if I was registered or not. I got some number for Oregon off of one of those voting sites. The snotty receptionist on the other side of the phone said 'Well if you get a ballot, I guess you're registered" Oooookay then, we'll play it that way. This frustrates me because my politics come in cycles. Sometimes I really care and want to learn all about the candidates and am excited to vote. Sometimes I feel like every candidate is the same and there no hope in voting because no one wants to fix the problems in this country.
So I proceeded to spend the rest of the day watching season 2 of Heroes to catch up. I'm about halfway through and will squeeze in at least two eps a day until I am current. Also started watching Raising the Bar with J August Richards. It's decent enough entertainment.
AND OMG SPRING AWAKENING IS COMING TO PORTLAND. BEST NEWS EVER. I BOUGHT TICKETS FOR TWO NIGHTS AND AM TRYING TO CONVINCE SOMEONE TO COME WITH ME.

I have a splitting headache right now. Fourth one this week. Of course since I never go to the doctor I can't just make an appointment. I have to be set up as established patient somewhere first. Such crap. I tried three different offices and they all told me that they new patient appointments are always last on the priority list and they can fit me in anywhere from three weeks to three months from now.
And I still cannot get my computer to play streaming media without being jumpy. I can't figure out why the CPU is so maxed. I even started the Task Manager and the only programs running were Windows and Firefox. Gah!. No Presidential debates for me I guess. I can't even remember if I'm registered to vote or not. I hate Oregon's voting system. You get no card or confirmation and everything is done by mail. Half the fun of voting is taking time off of work/school to go to the polls. This state fails.
And in strange news, an old friend has decided to become an escort/hooker because she's done being poor. I don't even really know what to say to that.

Finally bought new shoes. I had a $20 off coupon for JCPenney so I went there. Their selection is more for the working woman. Fancy heels, shiny boots, little kitten heels. But they've also started carrying Converse to be "popular" with the teens, so I found a pair of black Chucks and scored them for only $15. Then I had to buy socks, which are always a stupid 5 for $10. $2 a pair gets expensive fast when I lose them like crazy. And then they had wash cloths on sale 8 for $2.49 so I bought two packs. I lose those a lot too.
Compy does not like downloading the new Chuck episode. I downloaded tons of Supernatural to watch yesterday and it was fine. I try Chuck today and the whole CPU slows while it's downloading. Already ran three antivirus programs. Grrr.

| McCain/Palin on healthcare... |
[06 Oct 2008|02:22pm] |
Health Care Destruction By PAUL KRUGMAN, Op Ed, New York Times, October 6, 2008
Sarah Palin ended her debate performance last Thursday with a slightly garbled quote from Ronald Reagan about how, if we aren’t vigilant, we’ll end up “telling our children and our children’s children” about the days when America was free. It was a revealing choice.
You see, when Reagan said this he wasn’t warning about Soviet aggression. He was warning against legislation that would guarantee health care for older Americans — the program now known as Medicare.
Conservative Republicans still hate Medicare, and would kill it if they could — in fact, they tried to gut it during the Clinton years (that’s what the 1995 shutdown of the government was all about). But so far they haven’t been able to pull that off.
So John McCain wants to destroy the health insurance of nonelderly Americans instead.
Most Americans under 65 currently get health insurance through their employers. That’s largely because the tax code favors such insurance: your employer’s contribution to insurance premiums isn’t considered taxable income, as long as the employer’s health plan follows certain rules. In particular, the same plan has to be available to all employees, regardless of the size of their paycheck or the state of their health.
This system does a fairly effective job of protecting those it reaches, but it leaves many Americans out in the cold. Workers whose employers don’t offer coverage are forced to seek individual health insurance, often in vain. For one thing, insurance companies offering “nongroup” coverage generally refuse to cover anyone with a pre-existing medical condition. And individual insurance is very expensive, because insurers spend large sums weeding out “high-risk” applicants — that is, anyone who seems likely to actually need the insurance.
So what should be done? Barack Obama offers incremental reform: regulation of insurers to prevent discrimination against the less healthy, subsidies to help lower-income families buy insurance, and public insurance plans that compete with the private sector. His plan falls short of universal coverage, but it would sharply reduce the number of uninsured.
Mr. McCain, on the other hand, wants to blow up the current system, by eliminating the tax break for employer-provided insurance. And he doesn’t offer a workable alternative.
Without the tax break, many employers would drop their current health plans. Several recent nonpartisan studies estimate that under the McCain plan around 20 million Americans currently covered by their employers would lose their health insurance.
As compensation, the McCain plan would give people a tax credit — $2,500 for an individual, $5,000 for a family — that could be used to buy health insurance in the individual market. At the same time, Mr. McCain would deregulate insurance, leaving insurance companies free to deny coverage to those with health problems — and his proposal for a “high-risk pool” for hard cases would provide little help. So what would happen?
The good news, such as it is, is that more people would buy individual insurance. Indeed, the total number of uninsured Americans might decline marginally under the McCain plan — although many more Americans would be without insurance than under the Obama plan.
But the people gaining insurance would be those who need it least: relatively healthy Americans with high incomes. Why? Because insurance companies want to cover only healthy people, and even among the healthy only those able to pay a lot in addition to their tax credit would be able to afford coverage (remember, it’s a $5,000 credit, but the average family policy actually costs more than $12,000). Meanwhile, the people losing insurance would be those who need it most: lower-income workers who wouldn’t be able to afford individual insurance even with the tax credit, and Americans with health problems whom insurance companies won’t cover.
And in the process of comforting the comfortable while afflicting the afflicted, the McCain plan would also lead to a huge, expensive increase in bureaucracy: insurers selling individual health plans spend 29 percent of the premiums they receive on administration, largely because they employ so many people to screen applicants. This compares with costs of 12 percent for group plans and just 3 percent for Medicare.
In short, the McCain plan makes no sense at all, unless you have faith that the magic of the marketplace can solve all problems. And Mr. McCain does: a much-quoted article published under his name declares that “Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.”
I agree: the McCain plan would do for health care what deregulation has done for banking. And I’m terrified.
