ENGLISH DUBBED PRETTY CURE CLIPS
Don't ask me where I got these... These clips aired as promos during the GERMAN pretty cure show, and for some reason they said something like "The german versions weren't ready, so instead we'll show you the english clips".

The first, shorter one is at http://66.111.59.101/PrettyCureEnglishClip1.avi
The second, longer one is at http://66.111.59.101/PrettyCureEnglishClip2.avi

Speculate all you want, in any case _I_ am totally stumped as to what these clips are. The music is changed, so I thought.... 4kids.... but the names are kept the same (if not mispronouced), so that's not very 4kids ish. Plus the music was replaced by ORCHESTRAL music... that's not something 4kids would ever do. It just doesn't make any sense.

*5 hours of hyperventilation later*

Absolutely no words can describe the complete and utter rage and disgust I feel at this very moment... Nuh Gisa...? Creature Cards? Go back to where you came from? And what the hell, Mepo? Mepple's not a damn Poke'Mon...

If there's a shred of truth to any of it... I might have to cap a b*tch... Even if there are uncensored DVDs, if the translator is the same it'd still suffer horrible mutilation.

If that turns out to be the case is there any hope for continued script translations from Arienai? I've grown so attached to your version of things...

Well, we all knew it would happen sometime. But it's VERY odd that a clip of the dub would appear before anyone even HINTED at it being liscensed. My money is on it being some promotional thing, and that's it.

Notice that all the clips are from episode 1.

And Mepple says "Precure Cards", not "Creature Cards" :)

I guess whoever it was decided to go with Precure instead of Pretty Cure.
When we started, we felt that Precure had the extra connotation of "Pre" which wasn't there in the original Japanese, so expanded out the shortening to te full "Pretty Cure".

yeah, gotta be an isolated case x_x even tho i duno how a mahou shoujo title gets ported these days unhurt.

oj pretty sammy was released in 2 boxes, uncut, no dub. one heck of an exception and a darn good series, completely destroys what mahou shoujo is without hurting the genre hehe. Let's just say that the final battle would never happen in any other series...ever...

*5 hours of calming down later*

It is true that it's most likely an inevitability... Honestly, I should be happy about that. More Pretty Cure fans! Yay! I just hope it doesn't turn out like... that...

I'm not really 'in the know' about a lot of these things such as uncut DVDs and such. Does it take very long for them to come out with them if ever at all? Alongside the edited version? If push comes to shove I had been thinking about importing DVDs for a while. I really doubt I could wait 3 some-odd years to see MaxHeart.

But we all knew very well what such welcome meant. 'Twas Radisson's humour to play the host that night, but the runaway lieutenant was a prisoner in our guard-house.

What. The. Eff.
That's just...wow. I agree though, it doesn't really sound like 4kids' usual craptacular redubbing, maybe someone else picked it up for Toonami or something?

But in all seriousness. [info]samuelp is our last saving grace.

I say we fandub it. ...

Even me sounding like Joan Rivers with a head cold would make a better Nagisa. You know, Honoka and Nagisa's voices are so perfect in the Japanese version. Now they're typical "TEE HEE ANIME GIRL!"

*cries, cries, cries.*

If that's not a joke, I shall have to scream and throw tantrums. *points* That is a prime example of why anime should never be dubbed. They should just sub everything and let the lazy American kids learn to read, for once :-P .

Rawr scratch that comment XDD:

Seriously, that dub just made my ears bleed. I hate those voices of Nagisa and Honoka's....also Mepple and Mipple. :/ Arghh...

If Viz ever got to license Precure, I'd be relieved...since they're doing such an awesome job with Naruto. :]

I know on one of the anime forums that I frequent that someone found an advertisement for Pretty Cure's international debut in September in a liscensing magazine, but with no announcement's from any of the R1 companies for the title everyone was stumped about what exactly it meant. One of the theories though was that Toei might have planned on releasing it themselves but dropped it when they stopped releasing DVDs in the R1 market. So it might be from that, which would explain the bad voice acting, since Toei's R1 releases are notorious for that.

My suspicion as well. However, I think it very odd that Toei would decide to replace their own music.... I mean, what's the point of that?

To make it easier to cover up editted scenes of course. :(

I'll leave you guys to do the speculation. It's not all that bad, but hey, it's typical and to be expected.
Perhaps it's something created for another English-speaking country? I've seen British dubs of Inuyasha and trust me, British dubs of anime do not neccessarily have British-sounding voices.

This thread and it's video were linked on a message board I moderate. One of the users on the board found the following:

http://www.rtl2.de/pokito/53_1249.php

And those clips kind of make me skeptical as to the legitimacy of the clips linked here.

Ok, I think people are confused a bit, so let me be more concrete about where I got these clips and what I know about them.

The link above is from the website of the German television station that plays the german dubbed version of pretty cure. That I've known about for quite a while.

These english clips were aired on that same station, as advertisements FOR the german pretty cure, before they played the announcer would say something like "Coming soon to Pokito, is Pretty Cure! The german version isn't ready yet, so we'll have to show you the english version instead!"

That's why these english clips played on german tv.

Now, the question I'm asking is where they were made? They can't have been made by the german tv station as a joke... that's just way too much work and the translation is pretty serious. So where did the german station get the clips?

The clips were sent to me from a german who capped the german pretty cure episodes and was looking for better quality raws (to put the german soundtrack onto them... blech...), so I know these actually aired on tv.

just poppin in
got the link from a toonzone post.

it seems to be a fandubbing. i watch some fandubs and a lot of them have this certain type of voice to their acting. not bad, but kind of paced because they don't have a dubbing studio tv that displays the words to be said.
the male voice for that villian sounds too young to be a known professional.

but that still doesn't explain the new music (which is fully orchestrated), or the fact that it aired on german television.

Not to mention I think I would have found out about an english fandub project.

samuelp has pretty much explained exactly where he got these clips from. These clips have been airred on German television according to samuelp, so you either got to take his word for it, or call him a big fat liar. :P

I think the more likely case would be that these are Toei's clips with english dubs thrown together quickly just for the purpose presenting them to investors. These clips were airred during the previews possibly because the people behind the german dub missed their deadline.

Indeed, I am curious, because I can't watch the clips. Are they similar to what is on: www.prettycure.tv? If so it's just some business thing to get people interested in buying and dubbing Pretty Cure.
I do in fact recall hearing Mepple say "You have to use your Precure cards!" in one of the trailers...
