About:Have you ever asked yourself, how can I be more popular?

If so, perhaps you can be helped by these movies!!!

The link that follows will help you answer the age old question, Are You Popular?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As the name states this community is for people who enjoy viewing and discussing the films contained in the Prelinger Archives. What are these you might ask?

Here is the official description;

"Prelinger Archives was founded in 1983 by Rick Prelinger in New York City. Over the next twenty years, it grew into a collection of over 48,000 "ephemeral" (advertising, educational, industrial, and amateur) films. In 2002, the film collection was acquired by the Library of Congress, Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division. Prelinger Archives remains in existence, holding approximately 4,000 titles on videotape and a smaller collection of film materials acquired subsequent to the Library of Congress transaction. Its goal remains to collect, preserve, and facilitate access to films of historic significance that haven't been collected elsewhere. Included are films produced by and for many hundreds of important US corporations, nonprofit organizations, trade associations, community and interest groups, and educational institutions. Getty Images represents the collection for stock footage sale, and some 1,600 (soon to be 2,000) key titles are available here. The collection currently contains over 10% of the total production of ephemeral films between 1927 and 1987, and it may be the most complete and varied collection in existence of films from these poorly preserved genres."

Anyone who wishes to study this valuable collection or the topics outlined in the interest list should join. Some members may have grown up watching this material, others may have had some exposure, and yet others little if any. These films will have different meaning and relevance to all viewers, and this community will reflect that.

How It Works

Member Posts
Any topic related to the films is encouraged; your favorite films, childhood reflections of them, downloanding tips/frustrations, their relevance to current social issues, etc. Referencing similar film themes and concepts in comments is encouraged as well.

Other
We will also have some Greatest Hits, which I will compile based on member input, as well as quizes relating to the films. I am also thinking about creating a conversation generator that would be based on quotes from the Archives.

Chose your favorite Bad Actor, Most Surreal, or Honorable Mention for Impressive Scenery!!!

Topics for discussion could include anything from romanticized old farm scenes and terrible acting to moral values and haircuts. If you have a favorite make a post about it!!!

Community Guidelines
This is an open membership community, and we welcome all who share an interest in this discussion. We only ask that all parties try to stay somewhat near civility. Heated debate is encouraged, flaming tolerated to a degree. Just don’t post anything illegal or threatening. That will lead to banning as I will make sure that this stays a safe place for open discussion. My bottom line is simple; if you came here because caller id technology stopped your prank phone call habit, please go elsewhere.

Keep comments and posts respectful please!!!

If you want to learn more review THIS film.

Note: I’ll admit in all seriousness that some of these movies really offend me. I will try to keep my biases to a minimum and proceed with an open mind.

Suggestions
MPEG 4. It’s a decent size and many of the films have fair quality. If you really like one go back and grab a large copy. This is a good strategy if you are downloading multiple films.

If you would like to read my personal inspiration for this community go here

There is some great imagery in the Archives, footage of people and places no longer with us. We are born of these landscapes, they live within us and the films help us unlock these common histories. Of course we must view them from our own modern points of view, but what that means is up to the individual movie consumer. No particular political persuasion is required for this community. In fact for the sake of discourse and diversity we extend an open invitation to anyone who wants to have a respectful conversation.
