I need to stop watching the news. It is getting down right depressing. My local broadcasters have seen fit to stop airing the BBC World News, so now I am just stuck with loud, "the sky is FALLING" news reporting from American cable outlets. Sure, the sky probably is falling, but it just sounds better delivered in a calm, steady British accent. I also hate that American news outlets are not covering the
near finanical collapse of Iceland.
At this point, I think my idea to re-animate F.D.R. is probably not a bad one. Couldn't we just add it to the bailout package. Earmark a few billion to work on cloning F.D.R. Experts have said over and over that this comes down to a crisis of faith. The banks and credit markets have lost faith in institutions, companies and people. We need a leader to come out and reassure us that it will all be all right. Instead, we have Bush, a village idiot, telling it "it's bad, uhm, and we no idea what to do." I know that
reading Roosevelt's fireside chats have made me feel better, better than any world leader has so far made me feel.
As usual, comedy is the only thing making me feel better.
SNL's newest weekend update segment made me laugh. Ditto on
The Daily Show. Jon is
saving my sanity.
On the T.V. front, I watched
Life on Mars last night and was surprised by how much it didn't suck. It made me really like Gretchen Mol. Surprising. It also made long for the Twin Towers. If this show does do well, I doubt it would have the balls to end it the way the original ended. On to medical dramas...
Grey's Anatomy proved a few things. One, I never want to hear the words "poop water" in a hospital ever again. Two, Derek is a jerk. But I think we already knew number two.
