potterpast, a community dedicated to the discussion and enjoyment of fanfiction and other fanworks based on previous eras and characters hinted at in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. You will find little mention of Harry and friends here, or even of his parents(*); we're concerned with the history of Harry's world, not the present. That means anything from the founders of Hogwarts to Tom Riddle's time at Hogwarts to the true life story of Herpo the Foul, and beyond.
A few rules:
1. Be polite. It's as simple as that.
2. No netspeak or 133t, please. If I see excessive 'u's, 'ur's, or 'd00d's in your post, it gets deleted.
3. Stay on-topic, and try not to post one-liners. In other words:
- discussion is enthusiastically welcomed;
- links or suggestions of good reference texts/websites much appreciated;
- asking for suggestions/help with your fic is fine if it's 'This is my theory, what do you think?' or 'I can't find any information on...', not fine if it's 'Will someone be my beta?' unless it's a postcript to another post;
- if you're plugging someone else's fic/art/community, either attach it at the end of a longer post or plug a bunch at once/write a review;
- if you're plugging or posting your own stuff, here are the rules:
a. Drabbles or ficlets under 200 words - by all means post, but please attach to another post.
b. Drabbles or ficlets over 200 words - post them alone, it's fine.
c. Longer fics (say 700 words or more) - please link, and attach to another post.
- intro posts: say it with me, folks, 'Attach it to another post'.

(*) While stories from James and Lily's generation might technically be pastfics, because a) James, Lily and friends have gotten almost as much fanfic/art coverage as Harry's contemporaries, and b) these stories tend to overlap the Potter world's present, the moderator has chosen to lump the MWPP era/Harry's time together as the present. She's sure you'll survive.
